  • These days, it seems like everyone is talking about mindfulness. And like nearly everything else these days...THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT! Apps like Headspace, Calm, and Insight Timer are designed to help you start paying attention and practicing mindfulness. But are these apps worth the hype? Do you really NEED a mindfulness app? As a psychologist, I'm weighing in!

    Great video. I used both headspace and calm after my brain injury 2 years ago. After about a year I stopped using the apps and found my body and brain automatically practiced mindfulness during stressful situations. The power of the brain continues to surprise me everyday.

      YES; I'm so glad to hear you've found meditation so powerful, and this is exactly how I think mindfulness apps can be helpful! They're so great as we start our journey, and then as we grow roots in our practice, we can continue to practice on our own, with our bodies and brains knowing what to do.     Good video.. As someone who has meditated for several years... I do feel that you should not meditate because its good for you... There is a much deeper meaning behind meditation and it revolves around deconstructing the illusory self... I mean there really are only two ways to live... One in which you are lost in thought.. And the other is to be aware that you are lost in thought.. And that difference is vast.

    I love your content. I've never sought therapy but recently I've felt like it would be beneficial I feel anxious pretty constantly. I feel like no one I know talks about therapy and I wish more people would fight to make it more normal. Keep making videos I just subbed but I definitely find your input helpful and you deserve so many more viewers honestly but even helping the amount of people you are helping through youtube, it's still worth it.

    Just downloaded Smiling Mind and I actually love it. Plus, I haven’t seen one ad and it’s completely free. I’m considering Headspace but it’s super expensive so idk. Time will tell I guess.

    umm, I really hope you make a video about anxiety when it comes to relationships. Idk if u already made something about it but i mean, I really have trouble with getting triggered by fundamentals that are keeping me away even from forming anything with anyone i like with peace. I have fear of getting insecurely attached to ppl. I’ve never been close to anybody. Never been in a relationship or had a close friendship with anyone. Idk how to handle these things i mean n dunno anything that would help me cope 😅.. at least till i get to be able to see a therapist.

      Dr. Allison Answers haha it’s totally alright. Thank you for replying and considering that. Yes, i know who she is. I’ve watched it awhile ago n loved it and currently reading one of her books Daring Greatly. Feel free to recommend another book of hers if you have one. Thank you for recommending looking up her work cuz it resonated a lot with me.

I'm looking for a text only therapist online that will help me with my oh so complicated picture and wanted to know your opinion on such online therapists and if they'd be good enough for what I'm dealing with and where to possibly find one.
      I struggle with; CPTSD, Family issues, Trust issues, Low self-esteem, Low confidence, Anxiety and stress, pornography addiction, Avoidance, Hypervigellence, Former alcoholism (maybe not totally relevant), substance (possible) overuse, negative thinking
      Thanks again for your thoughts.

    I found myself overly reliant on streaks and very disappointed when they were broken when the app(s) did not sync with timezones whenever I traveled. But it seems like that focus with the apps is missing the point of mindfulness anyway.

    Which one's don't have Indian or English accents? I find it hard to focus when the accents aren't familiar to me. I need American dialects so the voice and speech aren't distracting.

    As a psychologist you should know that you not getting to the point is super frustrating. 2nd video I've clicked on that you talked so much before even touching the topic that I damn near had an anxiety attack and got super annoyed. If I'm here then I know what the heck these apps are,I don't need 9 minutes of hot air to tell me what mindfulness and apps are. I would not want you to be my therapist.
