You and I are going to drink a lot of coffee together. Like, borderline dangerous amounts of coffee.
So, first things first. Pour yourself a mug and I’ll introduce myself real quick.
My name’s Jordan - but everyone calls me “J” - and I’m a 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee.
I’m also strength & nutrition coach, I hold several powerlifting world records, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my writing featured in a variety of outlets like CNN, the Huffington Post, and Schwarzenegger.com.
    But listen.
This channel isn’t for fame, publicity, cash, props, fist bumps, likes, pings, pows or whatever else there is.
It’s a place where you and I can chat.
I’ll never sugar coat, lie, or beat around the bush. I’ll tell you everything exactly as I see it. Some stuff you might like. Others you might not.
    And that’s totally cool.
Either way, my goal here is to create a discussion. A place where you and I can get together, exchange ideas, and motivate each other to be better every day.
Like I said, we’re gonna drink a lot of coffee together - borderline dangerous amounts - but I’m excited. Because there aren’t too many online communities in which the sole purpose is to inspire and motivate one another.
And that’s exactly what you and I are going to do here.
    To your success,
    -J

Anything I'm not a fan of, I don't save it till later. Fantastic to adopt to fitness!!! Yet another great video!!!

      “Hard now, easy later”
That rule applies to everything in life. That’s why we procrastinate. We gravitate towards the thing that’s easier, which then reinforces the cycle of us not doing the thing we hate or find difficult.

I needed this video today. I am always in my head about this. I hate cardio and love weightlifting. I've started doing my cardio (30 minutes of steady state) as my warmup. I know my muscles are warm when I start lifting and I feel good that I am taking care of the most important muscle overall. Thank you!

I like to do a short cardio sesh prior to my main workout sesh (usually a combo of HIIT and strength). To warm up, get a little sweat and get it over with since just running or using a cardio machine is boring for me. Love these vids, keep it up!!!!

I started doing it everyday to understand how much it fluctuates and it was so eye opening. I’m now down 15 pounds because I stopped giving up. I find that if I do one before the other I will end up making an excuse to not do the other one my god that makes sense lol I’ve been doing cardio before weights and I have made no excuses so I figure if it’s not broke don’t fix it. However I’m learning more and more about how important building muscle mass is. I’m not sure after 45 minutes on the weights that I want to go hop on the treadmill at 15% incline for 40 minutes I just feel like I would get exhausted much earlier. Thanks for the awesome advice and all the comments as well I have very good advice. I’m just trying to get the job done. Good job everyone!

If I do weights, get a good pump in the muscles, I don't feel like losing it doing cardio after.
If I do cardio first, and get to the weights sweaty and somewhat fatigued, it's hard to push it to the maximum.
Best case is two separate daily sessions, one for weights, one for cardio.
Failing that, do alternating days if weights and cardio.

You spoke with facts!!! I use to do cardio first because I wanted to get a lean & shredded look. I would do an hour walk on max incline & then hit the weights. I want to build muscle but get lean at the same time. I saw incredible results this way but once I seen my sports medicine doctor he said he would recommend to weight lift first then cardio. Since making this switch after lifting I get the hell out of there...I do a five minute warm up of cardio but haven't did anything beyond 10 minutes. I'm thinking about switching back because I feel like I'm cheating myself on progress

#sortinghatsquad hello from NZ :) I've gotten back into lifting recently and I been loving cardio before weights, because I never have energy to train cardio after my weight sessions! My primary goal is weight loss, so I'll definitely be taking this video into account in future

#sortinghatsquad Maybe it’s just me but when you said the key to #3 all I could see was you cursing at that little old guy on the bike in the previous clip and I died laughing!

#sortinghatsquad Im a huge fan of you and your no BS approach to fitness. Ive started following you on Instagram about 4 months ago and have changed my approach to getting on the scale on a daily basis, understanding the importance of calorie deficit and strength training. I’m nowhere near where I want to be but I feel like I now understand the steps I need to take while being consistent. Thank you for your valuable content.

#sortinghatsquad. You are so inspiring and because of you I have a healthier relationship with food and do not freak out anymore when the scale fluctuates or does not go down quick enough. Love you!

Love the concise decision tree if you will! I've been contemplating joining your Inner Circle and the addition of the app is tipping me closer to that decision. So with that said, #sortinghatsquad for the win?!

The way you are able to break everything down to the knitty gritty so it clarifies many or all questions one might have has always amazed me! Keep all the information coming! It’s very appreciated

#sortinghatsquad just started following you via Instagram and listened to your podcast. Love your no bullshit attitude in an industry that loves to use kid gloves especially with women.

Great info! I had been wondering about this for a while. The way you explain things as simple as possible is great for non athletic muggles like me!!!

#sortinghatsquad This makes SO much sense. I’m not trying to be a super athlete, just want to work out and be healthy. I hate running, so I start with walking on incline/run to get it over with!!!! Though it does fatigue me for my lifting, but rather get it over with. Thank you :)

I've watched several of these types of videos. Yours is by far the best one. I'm in the just want to be more healthy camp. Thanks for the advice.

#sortingharsqaud... joined the IC in early September and today after patience and watching the scale move up, down, up, down and down... I hit my personal goal weight. Thank you for all the great advice! Looking forward!

#SortingHatSquad another awesome video! 👏🏻 You really changed my life - my relationship with food and my body changed after taking all your advice to heart! From being sedentary to consistently tracking my calories and doing daily cardio and some strength training 4x/week for a month now. You tell me that I'll be doing that constantly, I wouldn't believe you. But I did and I'm feeling better now, physically and mentally. Now, my sister is starting to track her calories too! Hope you reach more people, J!
