Tomomi Isomura, the voice of Lina, sits down with him for an interview, eager to hear his thoughts of the game and his insights as a game designer!
Back in 2016, Yoko Taro declared that the release of Metaphor would spell the death of his own series, NieR.
Now after 7 years and a new lease on life, Yoko Taro excitedly shares his thoughts in this candid interview.

Story had some good theological ideas (like is it worth continuing an endless war for your masters when said masters are long dead) but very poor execution. In the end, more or less everyone just dies, sometimes just because story needs to be sad.
Meanwhile, combat while very responsive, lacks depth. People call out Arkham games out for being button mashing. But this is the literal definition of mash button and dodge to win. This goes so bad that the only hard levels are where enemies have tons of health and can kill you with a single hit.

I do unironically wish Taro was involved by having a Yokoverse character show up in the game (Probably by DLC now) the same way Dante did in Nocturne. A very suitable fantasy crossover

I could maybe see a cheeky little DLC cosmetic or something. A nod to Nier's outfit wouldn't be all that out of place

Wasn't expecting Hashino and Yoko Taro to have the kind of relationship where they eat out together. As far as I know, they have no projects of collaboration. Seems to a friendly vibe too, given Yoko Taro is doing all this advertising for free on behalf of Atlus.

All the Japanese game directors know each other, don’t forget that Japan is Small island. Mashiro sakurai has spoken about drinking with plenty of developers, usually the ones that own the dlc characters for smash bros
I'm sure it's a bit of a running joke, too. They always advertise Automata no matter where they are. Saito probably makes sure to put him up to it so Taro can get some scratch
you'd be surprised to learn than Tsujimoto Ryozo, the producer of the Monster Hunter Franchise, and Yoshida Naoki, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, are friends.

i like the way you think but you should know that almost every masterpiece is born from or rather tempered by restrictions. PS1 and everything before it were super limited and those limitations come through in everything, from gameplay to presentation.
i have no doubt that yoko taro could make something great with a blank check, i just think i’d rather see his name on more projects rather than have him cash out on a magnum opus
people say he always sleeps to long and came late to work.....i have the feeling with to much money, he wouldn't stand up anymore...

Nor necessarily a bad thing. You know the studio is working on something, then that's all you hear until they actually have something to present. No announcing a game when development has barely started and only getting the marketing active after you've decided on and start approaching a release date.

That's how it should be, and how it used to be. Studios/companies shouldn't show off a game until it's, AT MOST, a year away from release. Though, that wasn't the case with FF15, it had quite a few trailers scattered throughout that 10 year period. You probably didn't know about it because it was originally called FF Versus XIII until like 3 years before it launched then they changed it to FF15

Love Yoko Taro's interview and humor also. A new Atlus IP in collaboration with Yoko Taro sounds very good though. I really think his style in story and game design are more fitting with Atlus.

Drakengard 3 is so heavily underrated. I played it 3 years ago after playing both nier games and god dang it was so good but it has the most bizzare dialogue i''ve ever read

Honestly I'm surprised Yoko Taro believes that the overlap between Altus fans and Square Enix fans is small, I'd assume they overlap more than a number of others. Also Yoko Taro as a voice actor in the game would have been quite neat.
