very good video, I do fireplace repair and one thing I don't do is gas valve replacement in the wall, wish you were in So.Cal. also I highly doubt the heat caused the rubber seal to go bad. its probably they are just old and valve is usually always closed and its smashed down and just losses it rubberiness.
Awesome work bro. You are highly capable. Comfortable sharing the bid? Watching you complete that job makes me way more confident to attempt one encased in brick Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Yea that’s why I made this because it’s a job people are not doing just saying screw it and they are terminating fireplace all together. Let’s just say it was a good days work;) if you email me I’ll let you know cost
Looks good! 2 Questions. 1) Why would you have a shut off valve inside the fireplace it self? I feel like it would melt if you had a wood fire. Plus for what purpose? 2) Why dope and tape? I don't believe that using both is recommended per IPC, just one or other.
@@ALLworldCONSTRUCTIONLLC What if you just have a fireplace with a wood log starter? Regardless I don't think there is any code requirement for this ridiculous, in-fireplace shutoff.
If it was converted into a wood fireplace, I would take out gas pipe leading into opening and cap off Gas pipe close to fireplace junction leg as possible. In this case, it would’ve been in the attic where it split off from the natural gas furnace.
@@ALLworldCONSTRUCTIONLLC So you have never seen gas log starters? It is a bar with holes, that sits under logs and gets natural gas fed to it so that other starting material does not need to be used. This is a normal thing that many houses have. I don't understand this level of paranoia.
Yea, big debate. As long as it’s not on male taper and backed off only on the thread it’s seems logical to put in. Do you have a theory that can change my mind?

Great video bro keep up the good work 💯🎆
Thanks Alan, appreciate you.
Was this job in the land of the fruits and nuts (W. Coast)? I've *never seen* a shut off inside the firebox.
Yea… good ole California. Probably could do without.

1. Above code safety measure (no wood fires allowed), in case bypass leak from primary. 2. Better seal. Above code.
