pepsi comes from the fact that it was said to alleviate dysPEPSIa (indigestion)! dyspepsia comes from the greek duspeptos (difficult to digest), which is from dus (bad) and pepsis (ripening or digestion).
Ohhhh, that makes sense! Dyspepsia was (at least perceived to be) a very common ailment in Europe and the US in the 1800s, as people moved to cities where they took on factory jobs where they were standing or sitting in the same place for hours and often had a more limited amount of fresh produce in their diet.

HOLD UP! Nutritional Therapy here! Q.V. Drinking liquids during a meal SOME folks, and it's more common as we get older after our teen years, have difficulty maintaining a pH low enough to activate digestive enzymes (pepsin/protease) and this can reduce one's ability to digest proteins. Stong stomach acid is also needed to digest minerals. Now with soups, much of the action of the acids and enzymes has been helped along by the cooking process. The minerals are more bioavailable, being at least partially dissolved into the stock, and proteins that are cooked longer in a liquid are more accessible for chemical and enzymatic reactions. But if you're having a rare steak which needs that acidic environment, and you chug a glass of water, you're diluting your stomach acid, forcing the body to *attempt* to reacidify it. Healthy digestion of protein is going to happen between about 1.5pH ~ 2.8pH. At a higher pH than 2.8 your pepsin won't activate very well. Many people with chronic indigestion can have a pH at mealtime that is thousands of times more alkaline than required, which leads to a series of gastric issues. A gastroenterologist can offer ways of testing your stomach pH. So beverages at mealtime are ok in moderation, and small sips are recommended.
I noticed, when getting older (30+), that everything inside my body likes a stable routine so I learned to barely take a sip or two before or while having a meal (usually just lunch) and chug a glass or two afterwards if I remain thirsty. Breakfast and dinner are limited to light snacks cuz If I do too much I cannot get a full lunch or I risk getting an unpleasant night. This routine also helps keeping my circumference in check ✔️
1:57 actually, Hank, as an engineer, the heater will make the car slightly more efficient because it is pulling the waste heat away from the engine, so with the tiny bit of fuel that is used by the alternator to power the fans, the waste heat being pulled away from the motor will make up for that. The thing that will hurt the fuel economy more when the heater is on is that most people switch it to recirculating air mode, which increases the amount of drag by closing the cabin intake. So, turn on the heater and turn off recirculate!

About starches: we eat something called Guiso in Argentina and it comes with cubes of potatoes, short pasta (macaroni for example) onion, bell pepper, spices and meat. So, we mixed starches like crazy for a couple centuries now. Don't make me started on LOCRO.
I've heard their music before but never seen these artists and they are the CUTEST humans ever. Also, I genuinely love how Hank embraces generational differences and encourages sharing knowledge across age groups rather than assuming/acting like younger people are dumb and just need to shut up and listen. One of the things I'm most grateful for about being raised in a smaller city (town?) is that I grew up interacting with people who were much older and then much younger than me and seeing the ways in which everyone could contribute to the community rather than being siloed in by age group at all times. What I'm trying to say is thanks for encouraging intergenerational community, Green brothers!
fun fact about john am hank being twins. When i started to watch them lile 10 years, I did not realize there were two of them. I thought there was one person who had done videp for such a long time that there were recent videos and old video; and that's why sometimes he looked younger and sometimes he looked older. I probably watched some video of blog rothers for 3 month until they had a reunion video. My mind was BLOWN!
This was surprisingly fun to watch. I would have never thought Hank Green would interact this comfortably with these two. Truly fantastic. I would happily watch Hank Green get questioned by other people as well. I would also enjoy these two asking other people questions. Maybe even all three of them together having a 4th guest, would be fun.
You taste food better when it's hot because of the smell. Scent molecules move faster, like hank said. That's why you have to over season food if it's a cold item
About the "Piston being a horse" thing, the Detroit Pistons' logo being a horse isn't directly related to the name, but it ties back to the Motor City theming: It's a horse because cars are measured with horsepower.
Vernors was developed by James Vernor (who was the first licensed pharmacist in Michigan) in the 1860s, and it did have actual ginger in it for about hundred years, so it probably did have some medicinal value, but in the 1950s or 60s, they switched to ginger flavor. Nowadays I would guess that it's more of a placebo effect, my mom gave it to me and told me it would help my stomachache, and her mom gave to her, etc.. so it makes you feel better!
Yeah, my mom always gave it to us when we were sick. But she grew up in Michigan in the 50s and 60s, so she probably remembered having the old recipe and really thought it would help. Not sure it actually helped us, but I doubt it hurt, and I do think there was kind of a placebo element that occurred.
This video was so much fun that about 80% of the way through the video I was like “This might be longer than four minutes.” I was 12 minutes in. It went by so fast because it was so fun
I don’t know these women, but y’all’s chemistry is good! Also, why did I read the title as „Hip Hop Duo raps questions to me“? That’s not what it says. That hasn’t been it.
You guys were a hoot. Enjoyed the banter very much. And Brazilians average about 3 starches for their main meal: a tuber (manteiga), a tuber flour ( farofa) and bread (pão). Every main meal. Every!
@9:10 it sounds like their mommas didnt want them to fill up on mostly water during meals. Along with the 1 starch per meal rule, sounds like they've got caring mommas 🥺❤
Lacksmiths can unlock Lambo’s. I have done it. Satellite features don’t work in some parking garages or in valleys where mountains may block the signal. Also, if the battery is dead, the remote services can’t unlock the car. In these cases, you need a locksmith. General Motors’ (Chevy) On Star service has been able to unlock vehicles remotely for at least 10 years and it may be closer to 20 years now, so Lambo is behind the curve there.
My family owns one of those cars mentioned as easily hacked; and it was indeed taken for a joyride bcuz we didnt know until after the fact that there was an issue (even tho we had literally got it from a dealer wks before) Ended up bein a thousand in dmgs and its why now the car has a steerin wheel lock we use, esp at night
lambos use VW computer modules (so does Audi and Bentley) I believe they are just now about to offer satellite features for their newest "high value" models.
"You don't mix starches" for some reason, that was an acquired rule of mine that wasn't ever said. My wife is Japanese and she regularly mixes rice with potatoes or some type of noodle. And then I realised I'm french and we have bread with everything and it's just the same thing! lol
Fun fact! The wirelessly accessible main computer found in modern cars, can engage the breaks and steering remotely. Also the company that sold you your car added that they can spy on everywhere that you go and sell that info to anyone they like. Cars are scary for all these reasons and more. Happy driving!!!

I read the title and for a second thought of "Hank Science" in the same way I think "Sans Undertail" .... and I kinda actually like that idea.
Good work, Hank Science!
About starches: we eat something called Guiso in Argentina and it comes with cubes of potatoes, short pasta (macaroni for example) onion, bell pepper, spices and meat. So, we mixed starches like crazy for a couple centuries now. Don't make me started on LOCRO.
How does Hank have such amazing chemistry with absolutely everyone.
This is like when the teacher says “pair up with someone you haven’t before.”
Honestly same 😂😂
This just sounds like friends hanging out and bsing and it's adorable.
Truly the cutest thing
It's giving nieces with their cool older uncle 😂
This was surprisingly fun to watch. I would have never thought Hank Green would interact this comfortably with these two. Truly fantastic. I would happily watch Hank Green get questioned by other people as well. I would also enjoy these two asking other people questions. Maybe even all three of them together having a 4th guest, would be fun.
Genuinely one of the best energies I've encountered online. That was great.
THEYRE SO FUNNY
You taste food better when it's hot because of the smell. Scent molecules move faster, like hank said. That's why you have to over season food if it's a cold item
About the "Piston being a horse" thing, the Detroit Pistons' logo being a horse isn't directly related to the name, but it ties back to the Motor City theming: It's a horse because cars are measured with horsepower.
This pairing was so unexpected but so thoroughly enjoyable/entertaining 🤩 Thank you Hank and Flyana Boss!!!
Wait, I got confused.
Me too, all the time.
saw these 2 in concert and their energy was so infectious - it was a great show!
MINNESOTA SHOUT OUT
I don’t know these women, but y’all’s chemistry is good!
Also, why did I read the title as „Hip Hop Duo raps questions to me“? That’s not what it says. That hasn’t been it.
i'd watch the hell out of that though
I don't know them either but I love the unabashed confidence with which they'll ask the first, completely irrelevant question on their mind.
You guys were a hoot. Enjoyed the banter very much. And Brazilians average about 3 starches for their main meal: a tuber (manteiga), a tuber flour ( farofa) and bread (pão). Every main meal. Every!
Watching a Vlogbrother interact with a non-Vlogbrother might be my favourite Vlogbrother genre.
i had the opportunity to meet these wonderful women, gosh they’re hilarious. love y’all’s energyyyy!
As a longtime nerdfighter I have to say, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE FLYANA BOSS AND I'M SO PSYCHED ABOUT THIS UNEXPECTED CROSSOVER!!!! 🤩🤩🤩
I did not expect this collab?? Incredible, they've done it again.
My family owns one of those cars mentioned as easily hacked; and it was indeed taken for a joyride bcuz we didnt know until after the fact that there was an issue (even tho we had literally got it from a dealer wks before)
Ended up bein a thousand in dmgs and its why now the car has a steerin wheel lock we use, esp at night
lambos use VW computer modules (so does Audi and Bentley) I believe they are just now about to offer satellite features for their newest "high value" models.
"You don't mix starches" for some reason, that was an acquired rule of mine that wasn't ever said. My wife is Japanese and she regularly mixes rice with potatoes or some type of noodle. And then I realised I'm french and we have bread with everything and it's just the same thing! lol
2:21 "You don't know how many, though."
*Hank making his dad status known*
This video feels like when my students try to get me on a tangent so I don’t have time to give them homework.
This video was just pure serotonin overload. Thank you!
OMGGGG i saw these two when they opened for Janelle Monáe and have been in love ever since 🩷🩷🩷🩷 what a great collab
These two are so precious so cute and they seem so genuinely sweet, this made me so happy
Saw Flyanna Boss open for Janelle Monae last year. Their energy is so fun, they got the crowd hype af.
love the almost completely unmentioned fact that they're just at jarvis's house
This is the collab of the century. I never expected this crossover but I love it.
As an old, I did not know these two. They are delightful; I'm glad to have that changed.
I saw Flyana Boss as the opener to Janelle Monae's concert - they were great and had such fun energy! Love seeing them pop up here!
this has been above average fun! would love to see more with people asking you questions!
love that this is just in the sad boyz studio
I’ve never heard of them before but this is now my favorite Vlogbrothers video, I was DYINGGG
Fun fact!
The wirelessly accessible main computer found in modern cars, can engage the breaks and steering remotely.
Also the company that sold you your car added that they can spy on everywhere that you go and sell that info to anyone they like.
Cars are scary for all these reasons and more.
Happy driving!!!
This is absolutely a collaboration that needed to happen and I'm so happy it did
One of them will become a science person because she is clearly a Vulcan.
"Let the process of them being curious make you curious too and then you get curious together." I'm a preschool teacher, and this is absolutely perfect.
I thought hank and john were identical twins and I would feel so proud of myself that I could easily distinguish who was who and now I feel like a fool.
😂😂
Bobbi and Folayan asking the real questions like "do you think people don't know the same amount of things that they know?" Love this collab!
Vernors!! I am loving all this Detroit representation from Bobbi.
(Hello from Windsor, Canada -- we're the city next to Detroit that wouldn't let John enter our country)
these girls were so fun and you all really jelled. this could be a whole channel and I'd watch every video.
I had a dream last night that John uploaded a video with president Joe Biden visiting him in his basement
This is home how more surprising
This was super fun to watch and these ladies are delightful. I loved this whole video.
wait wait wait, i knew i recognised this house lmao. so hank green and flyana boss did an interview in jarvis johnson's house??? i feel like i'm in a fever dream, all my interests are coming together
I would love to see more collab videos between vlogbrothers and gen Z folks! It's an interesting window into youth culture for this Millennial, and I love the modeling of inter-generational friendships!
Yes, food, particularly sugary foods have more flavor if it's heated according to my training as a nutrition consultant. I can't explain why though. Foods like ice cream will taste too sweet when melted but will be the perfect sweetness when frozen.
Hank explained it: temperature is just the average speed of single molecules, when higher they are more likely to get airborne and reach our nostrils!
I love these guys just giggling together, watching this feels like youre just hanging out with friends
