A good range of choices in each category that indicates the diversity of EV’s available. The Tesla M3 LR is capable over far more than urban roads, but it’s a great city car as well as highway tourer.

Can we have the time to get 150kms of real world range. That would be a better stat as it takes into consideration your efficiency and charging speed. Giving us 10-80% looks bad if you have a big battery.😅

Tesla Model Y is the best selling vehicle in the world.
Somehow it didn't make the cut as a good buy. huh?

I think they gritted their teeth even adding one Tesla. They hate that Tesla doesn’t pay for advertising.

Well, a Tesla did win in the under $100k category. I think the new Highland version of the model 3 is a great car from all the reviews / leaks I've heard so far, whereas the Y is still the previous generation. I think when the next gen Y comes out with all the same kind of improvements, that will leapfrog the 3.

What about ongoing costs? I have heard that the Tesla is horrible when it comes to insurance, servicing and repairs. Also the Tesla doesn't support Android auto and has a paid subscription to use the digital console.

Tesla has been caught out before telling lies about “range” to customers and in fact typically most manufacturers exaggerate range by over 30% which is highly misleading to potential customers if not illegal.

    • @TB-up4xi

No they haven't - Teslas get or exceed the WLTP / EPA range when driven as per the EPA / WLTP cycles.
I get MORE (and a significant amount more) in the mild climate of Sydney. 438 EPA / 491 WLTP km range official - but I get 528km lifetime, I have physically driven 560km between charges and have been "on track" for over 600km before recharging (after 12m / 25000 km of driving)
The reduced range is typically in very cold weather (-30C and below)

I've found my kia ev6 has typically exceeded the stated range. 30% sounds totally wrong and doesn't match my experience at all.

Who has 40k to buy a cheap electric car? The amount of debt is sickening

    • @bigrobsydney

Sorry to rain on your hatred parade, but... "The price of the average new car in Australia in August 2021 was $A40,916, according to researchers Canstar Blue. In February 2023, it was $A50,161." If people are paying 40k for a new car, then that is WAY below the average price of a new car in Australia. Please send your hatred elsewhere.

I'm a cheapskate when it comes to cars as it depreciates as soon as it leaves the dealer. But I think there are some really good cheap EV options that combined lots of features, long warranty, and low maintenance costs. EVs have already reached price parity with ICE cars so my next purchase will probably be an EV.
