I’m a survivor. I would:NEVER give my abuser a huge knife, NEVER chastise him for “splitting”, NEVER call him a baby or taunt him. Especially: “Tell the world Johnny…see if anyone believes you.” Amber and that “expert” remind me of my ex. I do not believe either are credible.

I totally agree!! I would NEVER had given "the father of my child...; or ( The Biological , as I like to call him ); a weapon. That would be to "ask for trouble".
And if he would be wanting to be alone; I would cherish the calmness and "violence free break" from him.
The video recordings were what made me, become "Team Johnny".
Before that, I was more inclined to believe Amber...
, and I feel so "ashamed" for that now...
Thank GODDESS for the "calm and reasonable" demeanor of Dr Grande.

So true. I am also a domestic abuse survivor and I completely agree. I readily admit that it is very difficult for me to see men as victims of DV in heterosexual relationships, but I know that it does happen. Still, I don't just dismiss a man's claim because he's a man and the statistics are lower for heterosexual men being the victims of IPV compared to the number of heterosexual women being the victims of IPV. This "dr" was so clearly gender-biased and her testimony was very unethical. She should have stuck to the facts and answered the questions in the most neutral manner possible. Instead, she acted as though she has an emotional stake in the outcome...which makes me think there must be financial incentives to play it all up as she did rather than give a neutral expert opinion.

She was admonished several times by the court for reading directly from her report when as an expert witness, she can't do that. Testifying is a "memory test." 🤦‍♀️ She got occasionally snarky. She looked unprepared, disorganized, and too emotionally involved in Amber's narrative. She's a forensic psychocologist, not AH's treating clinician. She boldly recounted AH's claims as if she were an eyewitness. She treated them as a statement of fact. She failed to provide any professional opinion based in fact. I have never seen such an openly biased analyst. In my professional opinion, she has destroyed her credibility going forward.

IPV data is NOT only gathered from what is reported to authorities. And if anything, the true numbers of violence committed against women, children, other men, LGBTQ+ people is significantly more under reported than women committing violence against men.
It is gathered from a wide variety of sources. Sorry to have to point out that even if violence towards males is under represented in data, the vast majority of violence being committed against those men will be at the hands of other men.
Women committing violence is a serious and equally awful crime. It is, however, NOT the pathological social norm that male violence towards everyone else in society is. It just isn't.

And while also yes men are more likely to be violent women are more likely to use manipulation and gaslighting push their partner to violence so you know there's that.

They should also report her for signing her deposition under oath knowing it contained, in her own words, "several mistakes", one of which was that she was being paid $100 per hour when she was receiving 500 an hour. It appears she was fine with letting these mistakes slide until JDs attorney brought the rate mistake up during cross and she tried to somehow justify the mistake by saying she saw several mistakes in her deposition. Then, why did she sign the bloody thing!??! That goes directly towards her credibility as a witness. It should strike her qualifications as an expert witness because it is considered lying under oath. Again, residents of New York should report her to the the professional board that gave her her license AND to the New York Bar Association, as well as, the Manhattan and Brooklyn and NYC Bar Associations to remove and exclude her from their lists as an Expert Witness for swearing to multiple statements she knew to be false.

I don't think she was perjuring herself or anything but she definitely have some deep-seated biases about male victims of abuse and that was CLEARLY on display here.
Maybe Dr. Curry was biased but the testimony she gave was solely based on the tests she administered and the information she received from said tests and previous notes while Dr. Hughes' testimony was based on her own preconceived notions about what type of person is and is not an abuser.

I understand the objection to that argument but still, if women are equally as physically powerful as men then why are men and women's sports seperated? Depending on the sport it is not fair to put them side by side as one sex will always win when competing against the other. The desire to see men and women's physical power as equal leads to a dishonest assessment. The woman can change the inequality by using weapons such as projectiles while the man remains unarmed. But will he remain unarmed?
The more important question is: who pursues the conflict to establish dominance? Abuse is about dominance and dominance is not always physical. It is an old fashioned assumption to believe that it is. Who is dominating the relationship to the detriment of the other party? Could it be that Johnny was controlling Amber with financial abuse and other controlling behaviour while she could only fight against it with violent outbursts? It is possible. A lot of rich men will never hit a woman because they simply do not have to, they have plenty of other types of power to abuse, plus it's a sign of being on a lower economic level. Johnny's story makes Amber look very bad but we are yet to hear the whole of Amber's story.

    • @neildutoit5177
      @neildutoit5177 2 года назад +50

You can object to claims like this but the best strategy is actually not to. Why? I had almost this exact situation in a moot court once and I won the moot by not objecting. All you do is wait for cross examination and then you ask something like: "You testified that usually men are the perpetrator is that correct?" "yes" "And you believe that strongly?" "yes" "How strongly?" "very strongly" "Would you say that in cases where there is some ambiguity in the evidence, you could probably still assume that the man was likely the perpetrator?" "yes" and BOOM you've just proved bias. That witness's testimony is worthless now. She's just admitted that she would say it's his fault even if there wasn't evidence to support that conclusion. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE ENEMY WHEN THEY ARE MAKING A MISTAKE
Update: the exact line of questioning isn't really relevant, the point is that, by giving this evidence, the witness is using general statistics to make an individual conclusion, which is pretty much the definition of what bias is, and you can argue that in closing. So there is no reason to stop the witness when they are testifying to their own bias. It's just especially clear when you are able to cross examine them to admit it. They will admit it if you phrase your question, and use a tone, that makes the witness think you are trying to challenge the statistic itself, they will then typically double down in defending the statistic, and they will think they are doing well, and so they will relax and talk about it a lot, all the while they are just digging their own hole.

Then when I snuck myself and my kids out in the morning, he went and got a restraining order. Like Amber.....with NO evidence. For 30 days I was not allowed to step foot in my own house. I owned it, not him. No clothes, food or supplies for myself or my three kids. And no immediate roof over our heads. All the while, he had plenty of time to find a new victim, move into her place and take whatever if mine he wanted. He owned nothing but a few clothes and a crappy old car. He traveled light. He moved from one gal to another. No reason to own anything of his own except clothes and personal items. He just moved in with the new victim and used all of her things. The restraining order he got against me was his fifth as age 3 1 yrs. Perhaps there should be a requirement that judges do a little research on how many ROs a person has gotten, who they got them against and why. I think the fact that that had been his fifth, all on different women and none of them had ever asked for one or had one against them and, I at least had a spotless record with police, should have made a difference regarding whether the judge just went ahead and granted him an RO based on his word.
      Anyway....
Like Johnny said: "Nothing in this case is simple"!

I do think each clinician was biased, but with Hughes she was actually making a direct accusation that Johnny did all these things to Amber, simply because Amber told them that he did. They never talked to him, never did any tests on him, and it’s impossible to make that assertion. At least with Curry, she just stated that Heard has a personality disorder, but it was based on her time spent with her, discussing things with her, and HER test scores. Hughes went by hearsay and her bias that men are ALWAYS the abuser, and women are ALWAYS the victim. I don’t think it’s a matter of who was worse. I think Depp was abused and reacted to it.

What I found disturbing and offensive in Hughes' testimony which has not been much discussed was her visible contempt toward Dr. Curry's qualifications, instrument choice and interpretation. While Hughes was there to testify on behalf of Heard, it is unprofessional and unbecoming for a psychologist to publicly denigrate another APA member as she did--- or any licensed mental health professional. She might emphasize her specialized qualifications (which do not always mean a better analysis and certainly did not in this case), and disagree with Curry's interpretation, but her disparagement was unjustifiable.

The foundation of any scientific approach is objectivity. This strong reliance on the reputation or qualification of experts is disturbing. If the selection and results of tests are not in and of themselves reliable, why would a personal opinion based on individual experiences which are not transparent for the jury be any more reliable?
I would want to see information about what these tests measure, how reliable the measurements are and if it is reasonably possible to fake tests in order to obtain a specific result for these tests. Are there recordings of Heard/Depp answering the tests, is there evidence that they were not trained by their teams to answer so that favourable results are obtained?
In my opinion it is not unbecoming to question a licensed health professional in a court setting. It is insufficient not to question them more thoroughly because too much of their expertise is hard if not impossible to objectify. Even if financial interests would not be an issue, preconceptions always may be. What qualifies a professional to help people might very well be utterly useless to judge their responsibilities. Empathy in practice might be bias in judgement. I don't mean that as critique on the integrity of individuals or a profession, I see this as a systematic problem.

She wasn’t gossip mongering or trying to push a particular narrative using nothing more then the self reporting of amber, or using clinician notes from other drs amber self reported to as some sort of corroborating evidence not was dr curry advocating for jd. On top of that she was not adversarial towards amber heard. Sure her testimony was not a good thing for amber heards case or team but she wasn’t presenting her findings which she backed in data and science in some sort of adversarial way the way dr Hughes was attempting. And idk if it’s bad to be biased. Jurors themselves are just regular people. They all have their own different bias as well and for me particularly when I started tuning into this entire case I didn’t have a dog in this fight at all and if anything leaned more towards naturally believing amber heards testimony but now that we are where we are today and with the evidence that has been made public and the different testimony and the demeanor of jd and just everything I am definitely biased towards jd but I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Sure I am biased towards him now but it’s not to the point if some sort of damning evidence were presented that completely contradicted everything up until this point or showed him to be a completely uncredible liar I wouldn’t refuse to believe it because it contradicts the bias I currently have leaning towards believing he’s telling the truth.

Did she ignore evidence that went against her diagnosis and narrative? Did she form an opinion of the relationship between JD an AH solely on the word of AH and present it as fact? or is it because Curry had an interview at JDs house to be vetted for her professionality which she sought council for before she attended? I dont see what ethical guidelines she broke compared to Dr Hughes who seems to be a feminist and believes that only women can be the victims and gives passionate testimony to the jury and false information while under oath and reads from a script in court, which she is not allowed to do. Hughes's entire testimony was hearsay and bias. Curry's was professional and spoken matter of fact to the data gathered, all of it, and was clear to her role and scope. This is the case of most experts in most countries. If USA legal system aloows for such type of expertise, maybe the judge should resort to it in order to clarify the situation given a stark contradiction between testimonies of psychological experts of both sides. Since yes, being able to establish whether or not mr Heard behaviour is consistent with what science says about behaviour of people who have suffered PTSD as the result of IPV might be crucial in this case. Given the vast difference of professional opinons between dr Curry and dr Hughes I suppose it would be well-justficed for the judge to seek a third and more neutral psychological assesment.

Most interesting to me is that even 18 months ago this therapist would be lauded and raised up, and she has that arrogance about her. She’s become accustomed to operating in a realm where her testimony and knowledge have been put on a pedestal. But we are at an inflection point and people are tired of “believe all women”, sadly, she doesn’t know it yet. Clearly by Johnny testifying first we were able to hear about his past trauma and and abuse under an abusive mother, and the knowledge that Amber knew that and then proceeded to treat him the way she did has solidified our perception of her as an abuser. Her therapist therefore appears manipulative. Dr. Curry does have experience with treating PTSD and she noted that Amber responded in the affirmative to 19 out of 20 questions, and in her decades long experience of treating people with PTSD she had never seen anyone fulfill that many criteria of PTSD… she’s literally treating soldiers with battle fatigue, that was telling imo.

They’re just reading her allegations as fact, though they don’t match any of the evidence, so far. In fact multiple people, including professional law enforcement testified they never saw the injuries she was claiming. It’s obvious she just hammed things up for the recordings. She actually had this story about how she had mastered this specific concealer and carried it around all during their relationship, and that’s why her story doesn’t match anyone else’s memories. The bruises she “photographed” didn’t exist in the days leading up to taking them, when she she hadn’t even seen Johnny. They just appeared for those photos. Turned out she was lying about about that specific product she’d “mastered” to quickly conceal them, her excuse why nobody else saw them. The product she wanted to demonstrate that could cover up any bruises quickly wasn’t even out then and the company never provided her with it before it was released, either. When/if we are called to testify it should never include any personal biases. My concern is that she appeared to be more concerned with discrediting another clinical professional, rather than presenting factual information. She did appear to hone in on the gender stereotypes and that alone made her testimony questionable. In reality we know that both men and women are subject to these behaviors. She had a clear bias for Amber & it was very apparent on the stand. She allowed money and her personal feelings to cloud her judgment. She presents as an enabler for Amber and she is encouraging manipulative behaviors. It’s also my opinion that her testimony provided a blueprint for Amber’s testimony. Ultimately, her behaviors are doing more harm to the client, than good. As professionals, we need to focus on the facts, the data and the wellbeing of all parties; not just the ones we are being paid for. When I heard her testimony-and I must say I am embarrassed about keeping up with this trial, when there are other important things to be doing-it struck me that she kept saying “she” about the victim. I thought that was very strange, and I don’t buy that she did it just for this trial. It would be interesting to listen to some of her other stuff on the web, and see if she does this for gender-neutral events/organizations.
It’s interesting to me how this trial jumped the shark in every way, because the only issue here is whether or not that op-ed was referring to Johnny Depp. And now the defendant’s attorneys seem to be changing course a little bit, by indicating that the ACLU wrote it, and the Washington Post wrote the headline. Well, whenever I write something for a publication, I am never tasked with the headline. That’s always an editor’s job.
The piece went out under Amber Heard’s name. And it seems extremely clear, given initial drafts of the piece as described by the ACLU witness, that this was about Johnny Depp.

The ACLU attorney wasn't involved personally with the drafting of the article, but the fact that they were referencing Johnny Depp isn't really a secret when looking at the communications. I think the plaintiffs will introduce those communications through Heard's testimony. I think there wasn't enough foundation with the ACLU witness to get those communications in. It's actually a good thing for Johnny that team Heard is practically ignoring the defamation issue and focusing on the domestic violence aspect as it's becoming increasingly cemented in my eyes that Depp was a victim of Amber and Amber is a dirty liar. The more the jury hates and distrusts Amber the more likely they are to not make a ruling based on the fine technical aspects of defamation law and instead make a ruling that satisfies their own sense of justice. Heard's narrative is pretty hard to believe from a purely logical and factual standpoint (she testified today that she'd run away from fights but she is recorded saying that Johnny is weak and a pussy for running away from fights) and the fact that her attorney's are making this case about her credibility in my mind is only making the jury sharpen some pitchforks

This is the first time I've really had any disagreement with something in these videos. I don't think it's fair to call body language analysis a "pseudoscience." From my understanding, when performed by a trained and experienced person, it can give valuable information. It's not as black and white as "This person is lying" or "This person is telling the truth." I believe the idea is to look for clusters of behavior that diverge from that person's baseline behavior. Taken in context, these can help the person doing the questioning to know where there may be an issue, and then they can determine where to go next with the questioning. Done properly, I believe that this skill can help to determine a likelihood of deceit but not a definite "yes" or "no." I also believe that lie detector tests are the same type of thing. It isn't so much the machine that detects deceit, but it can give possible clues as to what questions cause some discomfort or a change in the baseline readings for that person. The person doing the testing can then use that information to guide their questioning.
So again, I don't believe these things should be blanketly catagorized as psudoscience, but I do agree that there are limits to their usefulness and, just like many other things, people tend to take the basic idea and run with it in the wrong direction.
I've been following this channel for quite some time now (several years, I think) and want to take this opportunity to say thanks for all of the informative content!

My thoughts... 20 years ago in Norway, two men were convicted of the homocide (and cruel things done while they were still alive) of two little girls. One man confessed and claimed he was forced to join his friend in these violent acts. The guy who confessed got 19 years and were let out early on good behaviour, the other one got 21 years with the possibility of being kept on for 10 years if not rehabilitated - the harshest punishment available at the time. Now the case has been reopened after numerous petitions by the alledged aggressor. It has been made known to the public that the only piece of 'evidence' connecting the alledged aggressor to the scene, is the statement of the confessor - who only tied him in after some suggestive words from police. There are numerous sources of DNA from the confessor, none from the alledged aggressor.
In short: Don't judge anyone on someones word, if there is no evidence of those words being truthful.
