Man the RVGL devs are geniuses, they got the game on windows, linux and android, they made a launcher that lets you download cars and maps, and even check for online events, this game is alive thanks to them pretty much
Nice one! I used to enjoy this game on the Dreamcast, and I've recently played it on the PSX core for the MiSTer FPGA device (on a CRT TV no less). Might have to give this one a go on my Steam Deck.
How do you get the music to work in this game. It doesn't recognize the included music files in the game's music directory or when I copy them over in ogg format. The same thing also happens in Windows. Please respond!
i just did this, but when playing rvgl i dont get ingame music. when booting the game normally music works fine (but game looks weird, mostly the font and menu controls suck so id really prefer rvgl) anyone know a fix to get music back? game just isnt the same level of nostalgic without it :(
I played this game on pc at the time almost to death. It's fun. It's like "mario kart" with extra chalanges, multiplayer (I think), unlockables, and map editor.
After a couple hours of fiddling with this method, here is what I experienced. The method itself works fine but when you launch the game if you create a new profile instead of just leaving it as "deck" the game will freeze. Even if you force close it and re-open the game will still be frozen. If you Uninstall it now and reinstall it and try to launch it will say "Can't read language file: 'strings/english.txt'! In order to get the game working again you must browse local files for the game, back step once into "common" (leave file viewer open), Uninstall game through steam then delete the entire folder for the game. Reinstall the game and reset forced compatibility to lux. If you don't delete the folder for the game before reinstalling it will stay broken. If you are having this issue do not create a new profile. Leave it as "deck"
You can actually run RVGL on its own because it's not a patch, but a whole game build. You just need the original assets to run it, or just use the community-made ones. The current owner of Re-Volt was actually want to release the game to Steam back in 2015. If you notice, the game has an early Steam AppID number (287310) which indicates the game was already on Steam long ago. The last time Re-volt was removed from GOG is because the game used a community-made patch without the creator's permission. Thankfully, GOG cooperated with the community and pulled the game from their store. This is also why RVGL isn't open source currently because the creator is afraid that the code is gonna be used again without permission. Now, the game is back to GOG and Steam, but with some big caveats that you have to concern about: 1. Currently, Re-Volt IP is owned by a Korean Company called SUPERDAY/Superbox, and is not in the hands of the original developer anymore (Acclaim Entertainment) as they went out of business in 2004; 2. The company has done some mischief in the past. Including using someone's artwork without permission, and also their shoddy mobile game ports and sequels which are microtransaction heavy; 3. The new GOG and Steam releases are based on an ancient v1.1 game version from 1999 with some bare optimizations to make it run on modern systems; 4. The current IP owner shows interest in making an NFT game based on Re-Volt. So if you buy this game means that you're gonna feed their NFT ambition because they need a lot of money for it; 5. RVGL is better in any way, and it's also free. So go get that one instead. Search for "Re-Volt IO" on Google, there is an entire community around this game.
Hi everyone, I did all the steps from the video and was able to run it nicely on my steam deck. But whats missing is the track editor in the main menu. How can I make that work too?
I'm a little confused. So the release on Steam is the original port, then the RV-GL patches are applied just by using Luxtorpeda? Also, is there a chance this version will be removed from Steam the same as last time?
The game build the IP owner currently owns (build v1.1) doesn't contain any community-made code, so it won't be removed from Steam. It's a way worse build than the current version of RVGL which already improved from the v1.2 build that the community has made over the years. Technically RVGL can run on its own without needing you to purchase the game. It's just you need the stock asset from the original game. Also, the current IP owner has done some mischief in the past, so they don't have a good reputation among the community. They also shows interest of making Re-Volt IP as an NFT game.
Thanks for this, never managed to run the RVGL crap from the website directly. It either never opened via execute to install it lol. So that is perfect. Apparently it needed the extra populate pacman cmand. Anyway, who care, your solution work better and faster. Can probably add the extra cars too by drag and drop files like in windows. At worst I can just use the windows x64 version of the engine and just replace the game exe by it to install it in the game environment then launch it as usually with the new engine exe renamed to the game exe. Usual trick when games miss some redistribute and stuff like that.
Browse local files. Leave that open and go back to steam. Uninstall the game. Go back to file manager and back step once into "common" delete the entire folder for the game. Then reinstall the game and reset compatability with lux. Don't rename your profile. Leave it as deck. This happened to me after creating a profile with my name. The game froze permanently. I Uninstalled and reinstalled and then this happened. You have to delete the folder for the game too before re-installing Or you get this error.
I got a bit mixed up. It was originally on GOG and then pulled, now it's back on GOG and released on Steam. Apologies.

thanks for the vid! just got my steam deck and your vids have been really helpful
Luxtorpeda tried to download an outdated build of rvgl, which doesn't exist anymore
Excellent tutorial, exactly what I needed to get the game going. Thanks.
Thanx a lot ,works perfecly!
Glad it helped :D it's much better this way!

Got it to work natively. Had to use a keyboard to configure the game, but it does support the deck resolution. Works like a charm, now.
Ok but rvgl comes with an launcher normaly witch allows to add more cars and maps is that also possible here?
I played this game on pc at the time almost to death. It's fun. It's like "mario kart" with extra chalanges, multiplayer (I think), unlockables, and map editor.
Bro i always thought it was a hotwheels game now i found it thank you
Glad I could help!
Ah Luxtorpeda is what you use for this. Explains why GE just crashed for me. Thank you!

Damn i though this video was about getting voltage control on the steam deck APU. Would be great for both temperature and battery life.
I remembered it was super fun and was pretty hard too.

@@n_core the whole NFT crap is already dead lol.
Since RVGL gets regularly updated, will it update automatically on the Steam Deck?
BETTER ALL THAT GAMES OF TODAY.
rEVOlt
It works with Proton GE 31
The entire point is not to use Proton because this game engine is better

Help! Keeps saying “can’t read Language file: ‘strings/English.txt’!

This happened to me after creating a profile with my name. The game froze permanently. I Uninstalled and reinstalled and then this happened.
You have to delete the folder for the game too before re-installing Or you get this error.
