    Great doctor in more ways than one ; I’ve listened to him from other sources. I so appreciate his clear explanations. Highly frustrated with the host, interrupts & talks too much & at times cutting off the guest, might as well have done the video by herself! TOo many hosts do that these days with there guests. I just ended up cutting off the video and seeking another that doesn’t display that.

    Interesting video - The big word is "genetics" You have to look at your families genetics to see the weaknesses once you establish your families genetic weaknesses you are then able to do everything poss to avoid the pitfalls - At 40 I was diagnosed with Hyperlipidemia with a triglyceride level of 7 and a cholesterol level of 5.5 - The biggest concern was the triglyceride as that’s the hidden killer as it’s the sugary fat but what with that and the cholesterol level being raised I had to see a lipid specialist - Now I don’t smoke and don’t drink at all and don’t do fast food - Hard to believe but very true! - I was advised to go on a statin as genetically I was deemed a risk as my dad passed with a heart attack in 2006 and Mum as angina - However once u start on that statin route u are on them for life and obviously no medication is without side-affects and I was only 40 Yr’s age - So a life style change was needed - But I thought I was already doing everything right! - I had to see a dietician who give me the diet Sheet but the food on it looked bland - pasta / Rice no sorry not something that would appeal to me at all! - However, I must confess I had a luv for bead - especially fresh Tiger loaf bread I could easily eat a whole loaf in one go - Very bad! - So looking at the diet sheet oily fish was something that was recommended - especially mackerel! - So I started to eat that twice a Wk plus I had porridge oats every morn and I started to run every day - Couple Mth’s I had a full blood count at GP all levels reduced - No statin required! - I still get elevated levels now but have regular full lipid profiles done every 3 to 4 Mth’s to keep it checked - Never ever ignore high cholesterol - It is a hidden killer especially if theres any family history of heart probs - Look at your immediate genetics and beyond if poss is my advice!

    Thank you for this video. I made a decision 6 months ago to gradually reduce my statins and remove them after being on them for 3 years and I am fit healthy as I walk, cycle and weight train as a senior, eat as much fresh food as possible and exercise regularly. My LDL is in higher but still within range, HDL is slighter above limit and triglycerides less than 1 without taking statins and so that’s why I made the decision to remove statin from my pharmaceutical regimen for health.

      What are you talking about? It's an interview, meaning there's an interviewer and an interviewee. If Glynis introduced Dr. Aseem Malhotra and then let him talk uninterrupted, it would become a lecture, not an interview. It's perfectly acceptable to pause a guest to ask questions, get clarification, or expand on something that's been said or not yet covered.

    I have high cholesterol which the GP would like to prescribe Statins. Apparently, it is the sugar i add to my tea that has caused levels to be high as I don't eat meats, butter or cheese. I have a pretty good diet, i eat lots of salads, jacket potatoes, fruit etc and my cholesterol level is 7.9..I wonder if it is more to do with my getting older....

    • @luckylisp455
      @luckylisp455 4 месяца назад

      Yes the 'small molecule' type of LDL is the one that sticks to the wall of your arteries and invites the production of cholersterol to mend the tears, and this type of LDL comes from sugars & carbs. The 'large particle' LDL bounces along your bloodstream, more buoyant and less sticky, this comes from fat. Moral of the story, curb the glucose and get the good fats into you. And stay away from low fat versions of food, they have added sugar.

    • @luckylisp455
      @luckylisp455 4 месяца назад

      Also, the older we get, the higher our cholesterol needs to be to feed our aging brains. Higher cholesterol in senior years in the absence of bad lifestyle choices is not corralated with heart disease. But the use of statins in senior years is linked to alzeimers.

      The reduce risk in people who have have a heart attack taking statins most likely dosen't come from the colesterol part of it, but togheter with statins they most likely take blood thinners. So the cloting factor reduces. Unless damage of the endotilial cell. How could colesterol be a problem at all. It's not cemically possible.

    I'm a little confused by the point of this channel. It's primarily to advertise products and your website. But YT doesn't allow that so there are a few generic tips along the way. Am I correct?
    I also don't feel Glynis, with respect, is qualified in anything that's discussed or sold. It's simply about leveraging the name of an actress from the 80s.
    I've found some content interesting, but the above doubts are always there.

    • @AgelessbyGlynisBarber
      @AgelessbyGlynisBarber  2 года назад +5

      Well thankfully most people have found both this channel and the Ageless website very useful and am pleased to say that many have written to me to say they've been inspired to make lifestyle changes as a consequence. No I'm not an expert and have never claimed to be, which is why I talk to people who are. However, I've also garnered a lot of experience and knowledge since embarking on an organic lifestyle in the 1980's long before it was a "thing". I don't manufacture any products so am not advertising anything. I do however have an Ageless shop where I put products I like and to make it easy for people to get hold of them. I can assure you that Ageless has always been a project of passion for me and is a tremendous amount of work in a schedule that is already overloaded. The thought of doing it to leverage my name as an actress is frankly laughable. I actually started it after joining Twitter and people constantly asking me for beauty tips and for tips on ageing well.
