    Hardly anyone talks about the antinutrients in nuts, seed, fruits and vegetables. I ate all these things everyday and got sick, sicker and more sick. My hair fell out, my skin dried out I began gaining weight despite regulating my calories, I fell into clinical depression, my joints began to swell and stiffen, my knees were hurting could barely walk, migraines, cervical deterioration, My nerves were hurting and going numb in my arms and legs, my eye sight was rapidly declining, I wanted to die, I was dying. I found the Carnivore diet, threw out all the grain, seeds, veges and my body has been turning round every day. Just 2 months in of eating eggs, butter bacon and beef, my hair is growing back and in the color it used to be when I was young! My fingers don't hurt like they used too, I'm walking a lot more and even sprinting a little! My thyroid is improving, my skin has improved soooo much! I look younger than I did and it's a shock when I look in the mirror! I've not felt like dying anymore. I'm not depressed, I feel more calm inside. I've lost weight where I needed it most, and best of all I don't feel like I'm suffering eating this way. I was literally malnutritioned. And the fact that my body is reversing my aging proves that point since I began eating only animal protein and fats.

      Please be careful, you are likely eating more than the recommended maximum amount of 10% saturated fat in your diet which can raise your level of LDL cholesterol which increases your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. Red meat has of course been implicated in colon cancer. It could be that you have an allergy to something you were eating - you could try gradually introducing the vegetables nuts etc. one at a time to see which ones you are allergic to or have a problem with. Trying to live on only meat and fats could have serious health consequences long term and you will be missing out on a lot of micronutrients. You might also want to get your GP. and a nutritionist involved. Good luck, I hope things work out for you.

    My wife and I believed the food pyramid lies and ate a vegetable/fruit rich diet and for a few years she was vegetarian. As we aged we started getting a few problems which you put down to just getting old. But after a shock diagnosis where all the recommendations were what we were doing already we did our own research and went Keto. Huge improvement in health and mental clarity. I was off medication after 30 years of prescriptions! The change was so good we are nearing carnivore. Just amazed at how indoctrinated we are by the big food industries into the lies that are leading people into ever increasing poor health outcomes. As our consumption of seed (plant oils), carbohydrates and oxalates (many plants) has increased so have our health problems. Governments just pump money into the medical industry but it cannot keep up with deteriorating outcomes, which of course is the individuals fault.

    Something that's always puzzled me is - what fruits or vegetables did our predecessors eat during the ice ages? Apparently, according to the Smithsonian Magazine, the maximum surface air temperature during the last ice age, even at the equator, was about -4°C. In Europe and North America it was around -12°C. What sort of fruits or vegetables could grow at those temperatures?

    Good day! I stumbled on your youtube most likely because I just discovered Zoe Harcombe. She is REFRESHING and knowledgeable. I started Keto at the beginning of Covid because I decided I was not going to stress eat and ended up losing 40 pounds and my husband 45 pounds. I have been learning about oxalates, phytates and lectins along the way and have reduced veggies (lots of oxalates) and fruits ( sugars) I no longer eat nuts (phytates and carb count) . It is mind blowing to have been set straight on TRUE nutrition as opposed to the food propaganda that has been shoved down our throats. Thank you for having Zoe on and I look forward to hearing from her again. I hope that you can take constructive criticism so here goes: Please try to allow Zoe to finish her thoughts because a number of your questions and her comments were cut short because she was interrupted. My grandfather, farmer, carried a pocket knife, he used it to peel his fruit, he suspected way back that the poisons used, penetrated the skins. I am a suburban veggie gardener and I plant my veggies in a way where they are a bit mixed up and spread out and I do slow harvesting, noticing which way the wind blows, giving the veggies time to recover from being harvested. Why? In nature if a giraffe eats on a tree, it eats for a bit and then moves up wind to the next tree. I suspect that veggies talk to one another the same way that trees do, chemically and spread the word by the wind blowing the chemicals to the ones down wind. Farmers do not harvest this way or give the veggies time to shed the chemicals, known as oxilates. I am 69, exercise hard with weights 3 times a week, watch my carbs, eat in season fruit only in my area, have some fruit trees. Eat everything.

    The argument that pre-agricultural peoples were eating vegetables and fruit is a strawman. Of course, they ate what they could find, but there is absolutely zero comparison to our modern idea of veg/fruit consumption. The produce itself was remarkably different, not as palatable and had a very brief window for gathering. They did NOT have a grocery store stocked with produce from multiple continents.

    • @peternicholas3858
      @peternicholas3858 5 месяцев назад

      There are absolutely NO cell receptors or biochemical reactions in the body which can utilize polyphenols and antioxidants from plants. These are chemical compounds meant for PLANTS ONLY! Not even herbivores can utilize them either as they serve NO function in their bodies either, that's why they have specialized bacteria to destroy and detox them out.

    • @leemanwrong
      @leemanwrong 5 месяцев назад +1

      Polyphenols are not essential and the body makes its own antioxidants far more powerful than anything found in a plant. You can also ground yourself for an increased antioxidant effect.

Keep carbs low enough that you go into ketosis on the regular or don’t eat any carbs. While carbs are not necessary, not everyone needs to eliminate them all. Check out Dr. Ken Berry. He’s very good at summarizing what eating this way is all about.

    Well whatever Dr. Zoë Harcombe loves to eat, it looks to be producing good results. She may be working with the wrong premise and that is what we need to be optimizing. It doesn't seem obvious that we need to optimise for the RDAs (one thing to have the numbers, another to be using them in the appropriate noddle).
    Missing from this interesting chat was the microbiome, We're more an ecosystem than we are a nutrient endpoint, and given approximately 95% of total body serotonin is produced in the gut for eg., I would presume we shouldn't be optimizing form nutrient needs defined at a time before the mass destruction of our microbiome. Rather we should create a new datum for the like the needs of our gut's microbiome in a world disconnected from natural ecosystems, overloaded with Endocrine-disrupting chemicals, Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances and antibiotics, etc. (looking at Jordan Peterson, I'm not convinced his stake addiction is a permanent condition, but a re-balancing of his microbiome.)

    During the Cave Men days, Fruit Orchards and more importantly Vegetable farms Do Not exists.
    So fruits and vegetables are only available by location and are time restricted by seasons.
    So the predominant food source would have to be wild animals and fishes, again, by location.

      Dear Glynis Barber,
      Many Thanks for your 🩷 in respect of my abridged comment. The following is my full and more detailed one:
      In Nature Plants of the same kind DO NOT tend to grow in large areas at any one time. But like Everything Else on Planet Earth, there will Always be Exceptions. For example, wild flowers do cover vast tracts of land in Spring.
      But natural fruit orchards and vegetable farms are a rare occurrence in nature. Furthermore, they’re location specific and their growth and or fruit production are season specific hence not all ancient humans have access to them.
      So, the only stable source of food for our ancient ancestors would be wild animal and or marine animals if they live near large bodies of water.
      This explains why Eskimos live on whatever snow and or marine animals that they can kill in the arctic. And the Masai tribes live on cows and drink cow’s blood in the desert.
      Has anyone one heard of an ancient vegetarian/vegan ancient tribe that existed during the Stone Age?
      Anyway, it is a fact that factory farming animals is, indeed, harming the Environment but then so is mechanised vegetable & grain farming as well.
      So rather than one camp trying to accuse the other, let’s all compromise and proceed with organic farms and pasture raised livestock.
      In short, “ LET’S LIVE & LET LIVE. “ and
      “ TO EACH HIS OWN. “
      “ Life Is Short. Live Like Hell. “
      - B. Lee

    I agree with you except that every one of these people believe they have the facts, including Zoe . Zoe’s angle is coloured by nutrients alone ( assuming we know everything about these) she seems to ignore fibre. She also obviously coloured by her experience in her youth. Quoting science is helpful but science is like figures it depends on whose figures. There is a meat and dairy agenda but not sure big broccoli is a threat. I am 69 and not diabetic am not on cholesterol pills or blood pressure tablets, I came close to both but I’m ok now, so what took me towards all those things, even though I cook good food? If you eat too much protein it turns into fat, which helps give you diabetes,where else does it go ? I will leave you in peace now. ( dates give you loads of fibre and sugar, that’s why you can live on them in the desert )

      It still doesn't change the nutritional truth. What you or I believe doesn't matter. The standard American diet (and every other developed nation) is full of processed food that is long term poison for us.
      Fruits and vegetables are full of anti-nutrients. We need animal protein and fat. There are reasons we've been told the wrong information, it isn't a conspiracy, it's capitalism. The companies making the processed food want to stay in business and continue to sell you their products. The pharmaceutical companies want to continue to sell you remedies for the ills caused by the processed food. They work together hand in hand. Processed food and pharmaceuticals are a trillion dollar business. Again, it's not conspiracy it's capitalism.
      I hope you take the time to learn. I've spent the past 9-10 years reading and researching. I'm an attorney by profession but this has become my passion.
      My health is better than it has ever been. I eat grass-fed, grass-finished beef, eggs from pasture-raised chickens, a small amount of dairy from pasture raised cows. I'll eat wild caught fish. We need animal fat.
      I'm almost never hungry between meals, I eat until I'm full. I do have coffee still but with heavy cream. My endurance is great, I look forward to working out and biking.
      Don't let the reference to cavemen deter you.

      I have a new video with Zoë coming out to answer some of this. But, hard as it is to accept, this is what the science says. It's the simple nutritional facts and I know it's different to what we've all been taught. Dr Greger is all about veganism so he's going to have a very different viewpoint.

    • @beverleygarrett5818
      @beverleygarrett5818 6 месяцев назад +1

      I think this discussion shows how complex ( thank goodness) the arguments about food now are. There are some simple truths including the fact that people in certain areas have less illness and live longeretc. They tend to eat mostly whole foods and mainly vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, some small amounts of fish and meat and dairy. The people who are really over doing the animal protein and processed stuff ( on a modern diet) are usually not in great health, with blocked arteries etc.
      When you look at a single food for its benefits ie: milk you can praise its calcium and other nutrients. It was assumed the calcium helped our bones, it’s a fact it doesn’t, Holland very dairy based has the worst osteoporosis.
      Milk also contains a lot of oestrogen, which is not advised, having had breast cancer I avoid it.
      Fruit and veg are mainly water, with fibre and nutrients, that is the point.
      Dr Greger doesn’t describe himself as a Vegan. His books and website are based on gathering all the papers written on a food or illness and boiling them down for regular people, the money goes to charity . He is not pushing a point he is trying to stop people dying of diabetes and heart disease. He not the only one, Dean Ornish, T Colin Campbell, Dan Buettner our own Dr Chattergee and many more have spent their lives on these studies.
      Nutritionists are ranging from A to Z and back and we have work out our own way, whatever you are doing seems to be working. I was a chef and omnivore but I have moved towards Wholefood plant based after watching people’s health fail and having a fright of my own. It’s working for me. xx

    • @AgelessbyGlynisBarber
      @AgelessbyGlynisBarber  6 месяцев назад +2

      @@beverleygarrett5818 yes and every nutritionist has their own view point and personal preference including Dan Buettner. A lot of them favour plant based diets. However, with Zoë she's not sharing her opinion but the actual nutritional facts about each food. This is what she does and where her considerable expertise is. However, as you say, we should all follow what works for us. As long as we are avoiding highly processed foods and eating whole foods, we are much more likely to remain healthy.

    • @beverleygarrett5818

      Something seemed odd, so I did some research of my own. Dr Harcombe is/was involved with Meat Promotion Wales, In 2020 World Cancer Research said her quote that there was no evidence for 5 a day and that exercise makes you hungry was ‘Bad Advice’, Dr Harcombe has 18 books on Amazon, basically diet books.
      Perhaps Ageless should interview someone on the other side of the argument for balance, perhaps Dr. Alan Desmond would be good?

    The argument that pre-agricultural peoples were eating vegetables and fruit is a strawman. Of course, they ate what they could find, but there is absolutely zero comparison to our modern idea of veg/fruit consumption. The produce itself was remarkably different, not as palatable and had a very brief window for gathering. They did NOT have a grocery store stocked with produce from multiple continents.
