I can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate these videos! Thanks so much for all the time and effort you’ve been putting in to help us out!
Thank you for your video. I installed my sub by my self. With Rav4 Prime 2022, the color of the cable has changed a little bit... but the position of the wires is the same.
On the Prime what color were the speaker wires inside the B-pillars? I'm about to attempt a sub install myself....thanks for your help!
Thanks for the video. But you can find polarity of those wires simply by connecting your leads to the taps and check the voltage on your multimeter. If it's a positive figure, your positive lead is connected to the positive wire. If it's a negative figure, then your polarity is reversed. So you don't have to remove the head unit.
Appreciate all the effort and work you're putting into these videos. It saves a lot of people, like myself, a bunch of time to go through the forums. Quick question, do you think the wire colors would be the same for a non-JBL 6 speaker setup for a 2019 Hybrid? I don't have a voltmeter so trying to just match the wire colors to yours.
I am very confident they should match. Open need to remove the panels to see before you start this whole adventure. Don’t need to remove the seats.
Check out the other comments in this video. There is a wire harness you should use. I didn’t consider it because I have different head unit.
@@Rav4Gen5 oh, I thought our HU's were the same before you went on the Dasaita recently
@@love2huntbooks2 I can confirm they are the same. Usually the white wires are ground and any wire with color is power. I think Rav4Gen5 is saying you can confirm yourself by pulling off the door panels and looking directly at the wires going to the speaker. Then follow them back into the pillar
@@tophersplat Fair enough, that's what I'll do. Putting off the install for the long weekend
Hmm idk if this is the best approach. In my opinion, its better to get a signal from the head unit using a wire harness and then routing it to the back of the vehicle. It requires less disassembly and doesnt slice into the factory wiring. This is a great tutorial for your use case but it is alot of trouble. Plus, I was upset you took out your door speaker amp :(
Here is the harness i use: tacotunes.com/shop/toyota-camry/plug-play-wire-harnesses-toyota-camry/2018-toyota-camry-add-a-subwoofer-harness-plug-n-play/
Yes. That harness is the best way to go. I reached out to them to update their website but they so slow.
The disassembly is probably more since now you have to start at the back of the head unit and go all the way to the back of the RAV4. I’ll be honest, I was lazy to show that route for the video as I’ve done it sooo many times. And taco tunes didn’t want to work with me so there is that too ;) but really though, the harness 100% the best way.
@@Rav4Gen5 No worries bro. Damn what a shame taco tunes didnt want to do business with you. Although, I still disagree with you about disassembly but my setup is different from others, you display great content for others to follow. Thanks again
From the head unit, is it easy enough to fish the harness through to the passenger lower door trim?
I have a quick question on this do you need a fuse for the power wire or not i got myself a jbl spare tire subwoofer and i was wondering do i need a fuse or just connect it like you do ? Thank you and i appreciate your videos big fan !
The subwoofer I used had a fused wire. If yours did not, I would recommend it.
great video bro. So you don't need an amp for this setup?
You don’t. It’s built in.
Instead of going through the process of connecting the subwoofer wires to the door pillars, would it not have been much easier to connect them to the back of the head unit?
Do u need a line out converter for the speaker to sub. Amp wiring ? Why / why not?
You don’t need line converter. Amp would be good for door speaker.
@@Rav4Gen5 thanks!
Depends on the amp. Newer amps are smart enough to convert the signal, bypassing the need for a LOC. For best audio experience, it wouldnt be bad idea to use a stand alone LOC.
Thinking of sound proofing my Rav4 Prime just like yours. Do you hear a significant sound difference? Im wondering if it is a project worth doing not. I want the noise cabin to be quieter.
I think there is improvement with sound deadening. BUT... you reduce one type of noise (road) and heighten another type of noise (wind). So it's still a battle for comfort.
I did sound deadening on the front doors a couple of months back and did the trunk + liftgate today. I highly recommend doing it although it is a time and labor intensive project.
The front doors deadening alone made a 2 to 3db difference. But experience wise, it made a difference in how the door's shut with a solid thump, etc. I did Dynamat + Dynaliner for the front doors but cheaped out with Noico 80mil alone for the trunk + liftgate.
I didn't do a db difference calculation for the trunk but I have to say it felt WAY better after the sound deadening. I didn't realize how subconsciously I would "prepare" for potholes because there used to be a jarring effect from the rear. I didn't know it at the time but realized it when i went for a drive after sound deadening the trunk today. When I would go over potholes or bumps, I couldn't hear the vibration of the number plate and in general "metal". It's hard to explain. You'll know what I mean when you climb into the trunk, and feel the metal just dance (I'm 160lbs, 72.5kgs). It's given me a lot of encouragement to do the rear wheel arches as well in the future.
I have been bingewatching Rav4Gen5's videos and thinking through what do I personally want when I think of a quieter cabin. There's road/tire noise and wind noise. For wind noise, there's another video about a liner. My biggest annoyance was the tire/road noise.
Future project for me would be 1) rear wheel arches - this requires a LOT of panel removal, so procrastinating 2) rear doors and 3) maybe 150mil Noico Red or any CCF as a layer to the above
Hope this helps.
@@love2huntbooks2I own a Rav4 Prime i see a lot of deadening materials in the wheel wells. Im still thinking putting sound deadening material in the spare tires area. What model Rav4 do you own?
@@badimpulses17 Rav4 2019 Hybrid
By trunk, I meant the spare tire area as well.
Why do you go to both the left and right speakers?
Subwoofers accept left and right speaker signals by design.
Why did you take out your 4 channel amp?
I installed an aftermarket Dadaita head unit which has a built in amplifier. Good question.
@@Rav4Gen5 you do not lose lots of car info.??tex charge display if you have a hybrid. and more.
or is there an adapter to buy so you get all the info that the original stereo has?
Let me know when you’re done doing things the hard way. Lol
#dont do this if you have a hybrid 🤣🤣🤣
What is special about a hybrid?
@@Rav4Gen5 the hybrid batteries are under the rear seat, so , seems it could present a challenge based on what you removed to move to the b pillars. Not a Toyota mechanic but seems would be more risk than reward here. Otherwise, keep the videos coming, very enjoyable
I understand now. Yea. Maybe not a great idea to remove the seat but luckily the main 12v battery is in the cargo.
@@biggun7 hey thanks for that heads up. I was planning this for the 2019 Hybrid and always wondered where the batteries would be.
@@Rav4Gen5 Is it hard to run the wires through the headliner? Any cons?
