2024 BMW R12 full UK review - finding the cornering limits!

  • Bit of a late upload - but earlier this year I spent nearly a month with the BMW R12, riding it around the UK and enjoying its blend of handling and low-down torque. In this video I hop over to Portugal for some faster, more dynamic riding to find the limits of this feet-forward boxer-twin cruiser - and to deliver my final verdict on this surprisingly loveable bike.

Option 719 with the gold wheels looks great, had mine for a few months and it gets a lot of attention at petrol stations. The old school boxer engine is a joy. I find it comfortable at 6’2” and the lack of fuel gauge is less annoying than you think, just reset the trip after filling up and you know you have 150 odd miles, fuel light comes on at 120ish so you have 30 miles left, time to refuel. These are expensive but they feel special, especially compared to the Japanese bikes I’ve had in the past. Overall I wanted a cruiser style bike with a characterful engine that handles well, and has reasonable ground clearance. The Indian Scout 101 I looked at was nice but more expensive and significantly heavier and lower to the ground. This has all the kit, shaft drive and an engine that makes you smile every time you fire it up.

"The swinging dong of price" made me choke on my breakfast. Well done!

I’m 5’3 this bike is perfect for me so the price is worth it for me to be able to ride!!! Tim love the channel and your honest review. 💯💯

Good review, I have one in red, with comfort package and pillion package, love it. To me the only shortcoming is the suspension (especially the rear), you either preload it enough to take the larger bumps and pay the price for all the smaller jolts, or soften it for normal roads and get your teeth rattled over a large bump when it bottoms out. I'm hopefully solving that issue with a set of Wilber 640s being installed in a few weeks, which also add 15mm to the travel,/height and matching Wilber front progressives.

£15,000 for a wonderful bike that is uncomfortable after 40 miles? Only in Surrey, which is quite small.

To be fair, I know a mate who's ridden one to Assen and back. But he has a particularly calloused posterior

To me the biggest design flaw is the mismatched fenders. The rear fender is a bit bulky for my taste but as long as that's what they went for, why not put one on the front that actually works?

would love this bike as a bobber, seems it would require aftermarket parts though

Only BMW could charge this much for a bike and not bothering to include a fuel gauge….

I wanted to have that bike so bad until I saw the R12 NineT next to it 🥴👌

It never ceases to amaze me how BMW continue to take the absolute !@#$ with their pricing; they provide a bare minimum spec and then charge you through the nose for common sense stuff like a fuel gauge and/or rev counter? This is the main reason why they'll never get my custom, even though they offer some fantastic bikes.

Agree, but you can buy second hand, let someone else take the depreciation hit. But it's why I think CF Moto are going to rock the market.

This or an Indian Scout Bobber? Like the R18, if you can't put your feet forward it's just not quite right

Something about this bike just doesn't harmonize. Its not a cruiser not a sport-bike not a power anything....Just feels designed by office pencil pushers.Nothing inspiring and tank shape pretty ugly. I rather get the regular R9T

yea, i feel the same... technically yes but there is just something about the looks i cant come to terms with. I think the tank to seat to rear fender lines are just off mixing a few yesteryear styles maybe... .i dunno... shame

No. No. No. If you want this kind of bike just buy an Indian Chief or a Harley Low Rider. They ride better, have tons more character and they also bother to tell you how much fuel you have left. They also have much better V Twin engines.

La BMW es bastante más económica , más ligera y tiene cardan que no requiere casi mantenimiento .. además los motores v twin dan mucho calor en la entrepierna
