This is the masculine name of the god of rain. Anzar appears as the beneficial element that strengthens vegetation, gives crops, and ensures the growth of the herd. Rain, itself assimilated to seed, thus enters into sympathetic magic practices. To obtain long-awaited rain, one must request Anzar and do everything possible to provoke his fertilizing action. Quite naturally and probably for a very long time, the Berbers thought that the most effective way to request rain was to offer Anzar a "bride" who, by provoking sexual desire, would create favorable conditions for the flow of fertilizing water.
This naive sexual symbolism enters into the same systems of thought as other practices such as nude women bathing at the summer solstice during Awusu, already condemned by Saint Augustine in the 5th century, the "nights of error" reported in North Africa, in various places and at different times, and during antiquity, the more or less symbolic sexual practices that accompanied the worship of Ceres.
In the case of Anzar's bride, a universal practice in the Maghreb but more prevalent in pre-desert regions, a wooden doll is dressed in rags, simply suggested by a pestle or ladle, whose arms are represented by two spoons intended to receive and symbolically preserve the long-awaited rainwater. In some places, such as Tabelbala (Saoura), a real garment is cut and sewn around the wooden assembly, various adornments, necklaces, and bracelets reinforcing the idea that this is indeed a wedding ceremony. The most widespread name given to this doll is ghanja in various forms (Taghonja, Tarenza...) alluding to the spoon symbol and receptacle related to food and therefore doubly effective. More simply, the doll is called Tislit n unzâr (Anzar's bride) or Tislit n waman (the bride of water). In the Rif, the winnowing basket was preferred to the spoon as a framework for the doll: the beneficial symbol is also evident here: the basket is also a receptacle, it is also sanctified by its function related to the harvest.
The female doll is, in some regions (Tasemtit, High Atlas), accompanied by the image of Anzar himself. Anzar is dressed in black by assimilation to a sky laden with clouds promising rain. Anzar's bride is carried by a woman who sometimes simply wields a ladle or pot spoon during the procession (Tunis, Jerba, M'zab...). Where the rite degenerates, it can be taken up, in carnival form, by children who still remember the supplications for rain.
Several observations or accounts suggest that the current doll is only a simulacrum intended to replace a real "bride" offered to the rain. A text collected by H. Genevois from the At Ziki of the upper Sebaou (Kabylie) is quite explicit. It consists of two parts: a legend that explains the origin of the rite and the description of the rite itself as it was practiced "at the time when the At Qasi and At Jennad were fighting against the Turks," that is, in the 18th century. The legend can be summarized as follows: Anzar, the king of rain (the term aguellid is expressly used here) wished to marry a young girl of marvelous beauty who used to bathe naked in a river; as she refused him out of fear of what people would say, Anzar turned the ring he wore on his finger and the river immediately dried up. The young girl then called out to Anzar loudly, he reappeared and united with her
There are several variations of the ritual across different regions, but the basic idea remains the same. The "bride" of Anzar is paraded through the streets or fields, accompanied by music and dancing, and offerings of food and drink are made to the god. The ceremony culminates with the "bride" being "married" to Anzar, often by being thrown into a body of water such as a river or a well.
It should be noted that the practice of offering a "bride" to the rain god Anzar is not unique to the Berber culture. Similar rituals have been documented in other parts of Africa and Asia, as well as among Native American tribes in North and South America. The symbolic association between fertility, rain, and sexual potency is a recurring theme in many cultures around the world.
While the practice of offering a "bride" to Anzar may seem strange or even primitive to some, it is important to remember that these rituals have deep cultural and historical significance for the people who participate in them. For many Berbers, the ceremony is a way of reaffirming their connection to the land and the natural world, and of expressing their gratitude to the gods for the bounty of the earth.

@@maliaagf3846 Tisslit Onzar est la traduction de l’arc en ciel en Tachelhit. La chanson parle d’Anzar, le dieu de la pluie. Ce qui me fait croire que « Tislit Onzar » voudrait désigner
la fiancée du dieu de la pluie dans l’ancienne mythologie Amazigh. J’espère que j’ai répondu à votre question.

Un excellent choix pour une reprise du regretté Meksa. La chanson évoque une tradition dans la culture kabyle de chanter Anzar le dieu de la pluie dans la mythologie berbère pour abreuver les champs des paysans (oliviers, figuiers, figues de barbarie, etc...) après une période de sécheresse.
