- The United States Army Field Band performs "The Army Goes Rolling Along," the official song of The United States Army. Arranged by Sgt. Maj. (ret.) Paul Murtha. Led by Lt. Col. Paul Bamonte.
"The Army Goes Rolling Along"
The Official Song of The United States Army
The song was originally written by field artillery First Lieutenant [later Brigadier General] Edmund L. Gruber, while stationed in the Philippines in 1908 as the "Caisson Song." The original lyrics reflect routine activities in a horse-drawn field artillery battery. The song was transformed into a march by John Philip Sousa in 1917 and renamed "The Field Artillery Song." It was adopted in 1956 as the official song of the Army and retitled, "The Army Goes Rolling Along." The current lyrics tell the story of our past, our present, and our future.
Lyrics
March along, sing our song, with the Army of the free.
Count the brave, count the true, who have fought to victory.
We’re the Army and proud of our name!
We’re the Army and proudly proclaim:
First to fight for the right,
And to build the Nation’s might,
And The Army Goes Rolling Along.
Proud of all we have done,
Fighting till the battle’s won,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along.
Then it’s hi! hi! hey!
The Army’s on its way.
Count off the cadence loud and strong;
For where’er we go,
You will always know
That The Army Goes Rolling Along.

I'm a US Army veteran 1968-1971 and I always feel very proud when I hear our song.
It's Memorial Day 2019.🇺🇸
I can't remember a Memorial Day that I didn't remember my Dad and Grandpa. Old army, they road horses.
I sang this song when I was in my middle school choir (almost 15 years ago) to a crowd filled with veterans, including my dad. I didn’t even understand the importance of it until much later. When I hear it now, I thank Jesus I was blessed to have sung this beautiful song. May God bless all the people who are and who have served in the US military! 🙏🏻❤️🇺🇸
Served 30 years and medically retired now but miss it still every day.
That just does not make sense. You can serve beyond 20 years, but unless you were selected G.O. your mandatory end of service is 30 years. Why were you medically retired with retired pay much less than 75% base pay?
Makes no sense!?!
I served 30 years in the US Army, two tours in Vietnam, while on active duty, 21 years in the reserves and 6 years in the guard. I have met many fine soldiers over the years also, in the American Legion, VFW, VVA, DAV and other groups. All the best to all who have served in the Armed Services.
Glory to Army of United States of America! I am russian and i want Russia to join NATO to protect human rights! We are must be friends!
Agreed peace on earth must be established. We need to work together
Same.
it's just sad that Putin don't give a f to human rights lol only continental dominance
Any Russian that wants to bring peace to the world should join the UN as part of a peace keeping role it's a start but if it brings us closer to a better peace than it shall.
Ah, you poor brainwashed puppet.
This is one of my favourite hymns.
God Bless the US Army. You have saved the world.
God Bless the United States of America.
Go Army! I am very proud to have served in the US Army!
Thank you for your service!🇺🇸
Proud Army veteran (1979 - 1984) and proud son and nephew of Army retirees. Both my dad and uncle served in WWII and Korea.

I feel like carrying an american flag and march down the street without a care in the world whilst blaring this over a boom box on my shoulder.
There are quite a bit of houses on my school route flying MIA POW flags so idk...
So do I and I'm not even American or Live anywhere near America
DO IT!!!! NO ONE WILL FUCK WITH YOU! When the cops come and realize what you're doing, they'll just let you do it and laugh. :-)
Yeah we need people like you going down the streets doing that! Especially the state the US is in right now, we need a little bit of patriotism in our lives
Grenaders 3 yes
I respect everyone in this band, and I once aspired to be in the Army Band. These people, every single one of them, are extremely talented individuals.
Dear US Army Field Band,
Thank you very much for your songs and marches!
It's amazing, so good women's and men's voices, so nice instruments playing! And of course, it's US Army spirit as I like always!

Hello 👋 Veronica. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Zack Hudson and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Thanks to all who serve their fellow Americans. May God keep joy in your hearts!
I love these military songs. They are all so beautiful and with rich lyrics. Greetings from Brazil.
HAPPY 4th OF JULY, GOD BLESS THE USA! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY.
Always gives me chills when I hear this
3 Grandparents fought and 2 friends in the army serving right now. Thank you for all that you've done. There isn't a reason why this song shouldn't be stuck in my head all day long. Thinking of all those who are serving and who have served. We thank you for everything. God bless the US Military. I also have 1 friend serving in the Coastguard. 0:37
They should start sending music divisions into battle again, like in the 1800s, Everybody would just stop fighting and listen... Or be really confused... Or they would get shot... so maybe not then, lol
odds are they would get shot, I wouldnt mind having directions being sent out over music, but it makes the musicians a huge target
psyops units often play music over speakers to pump up infantrymen, but it''s often rock music.
What do you mean? Like they play rock music in the transport right before arrival? Is there really a job dedicated to selecting pump up songs for infantry? I would be great for that lol
Our only motivational music was on our Ipods and Zunes. FFDP / Disturbed before we dismounted. Psyops hasnt really done that in the GWOT. However, there is a video of one guy who was so pissed at the prayer music he hooked up his guitar and played the Star Spangled Banner loud enough to drown that crap out. It is hilarious
wasn’t it a crime to shoot the drummer boy in the early american battles? maybe we can reenact that idea? lol
Got to listen to this one at my son's graduation down at fort Lee Virginia..they sounded great...God bless the USA
I'm singing this for my school concert
Good work! Sounds amazing! I am planning to go into the U.S Army after high school. Infantry here! This made me want to enlist today!
Roz Goodluck and salute to you sir
I have yet to meet anyone that’s been in the service that has regretted it. Good luck to you and thank you for your service.
65 marines dislike this video for saying "first to fight"
army existed before marine core, and navy was created to deal with Barbary pirates when muslims decided not to back off our shipping. Once we were ready to hit back, then the marines were created- hence the 'shores of Tripoli' line...
Skirmishes between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord in April 1775 kicked off the armed conflict, and by the following summer, the rebels were waging a full-scale war for their independence. Militia = ARMY / INFANTRYMEN! FIRST TO FIGHT! FIGHTING BEFORE THE CORE WAS A GLIMMER IN UNCLE SAM'S EYE.
U have a point their. I was in 64-66 Army Ft Bragg.
That’s true but the Marines were the first to conquer foreign Territory on April 25th 1805 Marine lieutenant Presley N. O’Banon with 2 squads of Marines Marched 600 miles to capture Fort Derna in Egypt raising the Stars and Stripes over the fort during the Barbary wars becoming the first Americans to conquer foreign territory “if you’re not first place you’re last place”
Were was the marines in 1776
Is strongly precious. 🙏💪🏾👊🏾👋🏼 God bless the United States Army Field.
My god, the vocal layers at the end...

Outstanding recording! Are you folks going to do one for the extended version of the song? Or how about one for us at the Corps of Engineers? :D
Thanks! We don't have an extended version version on this channel yet. We'll keep you in mind!

So Glad I found this You Tube Channel. Brilliant stuff from this Band of US Heroes. God Bless 'em!
Proud of the The United States Army Field Band, hittin' the note! This song is aptly footnoted as adapted from the US Army Field Artillery Song not long ago.
God bless our US Army. We value your service to our country.
I am an Army Veteran. God bless our troops!
Amazing. Salute. RIP all my friends. I will see you in heaven soon.
Go well troop!
I love how we don't sing the first part ever. We always just started with "First to fight". I loved when we'd sing this during CoC or CoR ceremonies. Meant we were done. Officers have a lot to say, Senior Enlisted, the really awesome ones, keep it short. This one Colonel was really cool though, he made us all sit down. He says, "I know you guys hate this, I was enlisted once too. So I will do this for you guys, everyone take a seat."
I'm glad that they played this selection in its entirety. The first part is often omitted at parades and some concerts. Nicely done.
Thank you Every service person every where for your service. God bless you and keep you.
SGM drum major? I'm staying off HIS grass...
Miss serving our country, Proud to have been a Soldier in our great Army! Defendam Hoc!!!
Marines: *laughs in halls of Montezuma*
*Laughs in Audie Murphy*
*bellows in every clime and place*
Navy: pass out drinking to the foam.
*Navy: Happy TNT noises*
I’m not even American but have to say that this song completely blows the Marines' Hymn out of the water.
I am from Indonesia and I really like America

It's so fascinating how joyful the US Army's marches are, in contrary to almost all the other nations
Happy Birthday, army.
Even getting outta the army this shit is still a banger . I love this song .
"For where'er we go, You will always know. That The Army Goes Rolling Along"
I wonder if these people joined the Army to specifically be band
In fact they did!
Band member is an official job in all the armed forces! Marines play for themselves and the president, whereas the others play at their own events. They still go through boot camp the same as everyone else though
I love this song. I played it at an assembly at school
Gloriosa banda do exército americano.
Muito boa a execução em conjunto ao coral de vozes.
My dad's ex military and ime half korean god bless America.
Gotta love how the Sergeant Major is playing the bloody Glockenspiel lol
Compliments from the Kingdom of the Netherlands!
A lot of senior NCOs in that ensemble, including staff sergeants, sergeants-first-class, master sergeants, sergeants-major, etc. Dayum. Sharp uniforms, too!
Our MOS is covered under the Acquired Skills Program (on average our members join with multiple degrees in music)-hence the rank you see.
@@ArmyFieldBand I had imagined something like that to be the case, especially in view of the obvious skill exhibited.

Drill SGT: THE ARMY SONG!!!
In love of my militaries forces! Hooah! Proud and support them always! 😍😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘😘
Love this! i know they had to update lyrics to lots of these songs....but i miss hearing "as the caissons go rolling along".
absolutely wonderful thank you very much

As an army veteran and it was an honor to serve it brings back an air of Purity that does not exist these days
Thank you for your service!
I like the US army's music Its very pleasant to listen to, unlike the old Soviet music.
True. But the soviet military marches are so manly it grows you a beard in seconds.
Actually, as a US Army guy, I like both. Soviet songs from purely a music's stand point of course
Vincent Napolitano bruh chill
soviet music is nice too...
Just transpose US army music into a minor key and you'll get Soviet music...
Thank you for beautiful performance. Thank you to all in all the armed forces, for all you do.
Absolutely beautiful and very beautifully done!!👍👏🇺🇸🛐✝️🌹✝️🛐❤️💓🔯🎆🕎💕💗🌄🇺🇸
Im sitting at home watching this and since I was in the Army I want to stand at attention to watch this then I look over at my dd-214 ...
Thats the best feeling ever. Especially when you think back to all them unnecessary. Ftx. And. Mre. 😆
My girlfriends dad Ken Curry was a soldier who served in Vietnam. He died last year and she gets mad at me when I honor him with this song. (Rest easy soldier) Lol. I salute his shrine every time I pass. I’m marine too.
Wow. 27 years since I wore the uniform and still tear up.
Awesome... We are Proud of The Troops
So I was in the US Army field artillery from private to colonel and the original was "The Field Artillery March" by BG Gruber
Over hill, over dale,
as we hit the dusty trail,
and the caissons go rolling along.
Counter-march, right about,
hear the wagon-masters shout,
as the caissons go rolling along.
For it's hi hi hee, in the field artillery,
count out your numbers loud and strong.
For where ere we go,
you will always know,
that the caissons are rolling along.
Something like that. But I may be slightly off. I last sang with the Cantare Chorale and they tended towards that classical stuff.
But I guess the rest of the army needed a song and so they were not as musically-gifted, but they could re-write the lyrics, and so the rest is history. Oh, well. It's good that others made use of the tune. We cannoneers tend to be slightly deaf anyway, so at least some good came of this.
Thanks for sharing, and thank you for your service!
Greetings from Germany! Awesome performence and song! 😍

But the rest, wow, memories.
Proud ARMY VET....Awesome Singing
I never been in the military but I heard this song from old movies I watched, and it sounds good.
Excellent!
I love the music and GOD love you two by.
They got a sergeant major on the xylophone, what's he doing in there?
Playing the xylophone like a sergeant major, just like all the master sergeants,, staff sergeants and sergeants first class are doing their parts. Rank comes from time in grade, training and accomplishment in their particular field of service (MOS).
He's doing splendidly, he is.
Bro we gotta practice this for drill team 😭 it go hard fr
Awesome video! The Army is awesome
-Future National Guard soldier
Beautifull! But, why does The Army Field Band has so many conductors?
We have several officers who shared conducting responsibilities across the different ensembles.
Best anthem ever
