There are elephants that can be introduced into the park from other reserves in Africa with similar climate I think. It will be a daunting task but worth it in the long term. Humans caused this situation and can remedy it. This is a very sad situation for that lone Ellie.

I used to ride through the Knysna forest; met 1 or 2 elephants, once the famous Aftand. The horses knew to retreat quickly & quietly if there was any sign or sight of an elephant. Interestingly when Gareth Patterson was interviewed on radio I phoned in to tell of my experiences he was very dismissive & quickly shut me up!

Poor elephant - so sad for a social animal to end up alone.

Kruger is overpopulated. It would be good to restock from there. Elephants are social animals and need company as well as reassurance from others, especially lone females like this one. It will also reduce the pressure on the environment in Kruger, though fractionally.

Go read more about when they did this (i.e. introduce "external" elephants) before - and such elephants not survive.

Problem is they cannot introduce other elephants. As i understand they cannot survive well in this climate.

So much for Gareth Paterson writing a book a few years ago saying there were over a dozen.
