Thanks a lot for the lesson Rotem! adding to the idea of the inversions to be the same notes just in a different order, really helped me to put those dim chords in a "family", that way you need to remember only 3 families: 1. B D F Ab 2. C Eb Gb A 3. E G Bb Db. The same goes for aug chords, with 4 families to know. Toda raba!
I just watched this video with my guitar for several times . This is my first time really understand how to use diminished chords and use them on my playing . Thanks man!
Oh and he's clearly an accomplished concert pianist too. Some people just hog all the talent that us mortals have to strive for. 😊 You're a brilliant Musician, Rotem. 🙂
Thanks, Rotem. You are helping to stretch my playing beyond my comfort level! I love your lessons, and your playing style is truly unique. I hope to catch you live one day.
Wow, for me (I'm still very ignorant) a wonderful class is that one that makes you think. The "all minor thirds" and the "listen to this so particular colour" were grand. Thank you!
I was ecstatic listening to Robben Ford’s lesson about using the diminished scale & chords, but, alas, I couldn’t make the same sounds afterwards. With this lesson, you filled-in some ‘gaps’, and, I find myself both, admiring your teaching/playing, AND integrating it into my playing. I guess I’m just ‘ripe’ for diminished now?
Must say that your video are not only really informative but also well mixed. I can't count the videos where you have different volume for voice and guitar. Good work!
My Sweet Lord sent me on a Diminished voyage, which has now modulated into an Augmented journey. For me, the question I have asked is what other chords and tonalities do these modular forms connect. Also, using a circle of 5ths, an inscribed square is a Diminished 7 chord and an equilateral triangle is an Augmented triad.
Thanks Rotem. Interesting stuff here which I was unaware of as I normally only use the standard version which only uses the top four strings. I had some difficullty understanding the C positions but the rest was clearer to me. I have access to the pdf so I shall have a go at practicing the dim scale. I never have had Covid. Sorry to hear you have and hope you have made a full recovery.
It's the sound of a wind chime I believe a lot of wind chimes tubes are cut to mimic the diminished chord. I think because it's easy to do the math when cutting the tube for example, your first tube is 12 in, the second tube is 9in, the third tube is 6in and the last tube is 3 in. This will give you the notes of a diminished 7 cord. Least I think this is the case. I'm just using Pythagorean logic.
Just found your channel and I'm really impressed. I've learned so much in this video: C#Dim7 is just C7 with the root raised by a half - how did I never realize that? And so much more. Thanks so much!
One of my personal favorite diminished things that doesn't get mentioned much is the sound of the diminished triad with an added major 7th. Very interesting sound. Somehow more "modern" but very diminished still- C-Eb-Gb-B
1st time watcher. I can play this scale, but I have never found where it fits. I was hoping you would do a jam where you use it in each of the ways you described, like maybe the ending of your video. Good job explaining it clearly.

ROTEM SIVAN, can you make a lesson about secondary diminished chords because classical composers used secondary half diminished and full diminished chords. In major keys its Half Diminished in minor keys its full diminished chords
At 2:40 when you're discuss the B dim, the tab and notation spell a Bm7b5 (half dim), but your hand looks like you're play Ab, which would be a full dim.
Cool! im diving into the Barry Harris 6th diminished concept... Ive got the inversions and harmonized scale down but im wondering on tips to applying it in 251 use?
Have a look at gypsy jazz. They use dims over dominant chords all the time. Best thing would be to look at V - I licks from great gypsy players or gypsy jazz YT channels. Dim runs imply V7 flat 9. So find the V chord and start a diminished run from the 3rd of this chord. It will sound diminished and imply V7 flat 9. So in Minor Swing the progression is E7 to a minor. Find the 3rd of E7: g#. Do a diminished run starting on g# and resolve to a minor. This is a perfectly common way to use it that has a cool sound and implies V7flat9.
So Rotem I just want to ask you a quick question! To be able to play from the real book, how do you suggest is the best resource to learn sheet music? Or is this in your opinion not necessary for jazz guitar? Thank you!
Did you have Covid yet?? Hope y'all feeling well!
nO,AND yes!
Yes. Only lost taste and smell. Beer was like drinking sodawater 😁

I think the secondary dominant resolution ala Bach’s Little Prelude might be my favorite sequence in all of music, certainly a contender.
Yes sir!!
@@RotemSivanGuitar B.W.V. 999 Prelude, not 926 “Little” prelude, sorry 😊

Check out some of Robben's playing with Miles,he uses a lot of diminished stuff.
So much information but I should be able to remember those two chord shapes.

Oh! Why did you stop?
@@RotemSivanGuitar a few reasons but it just doesn't give me the happiness it once did
Hi Rotem, many happy wishes for this new year!
Thanks for another awesome lesson Rotem. Glad to see that you are doing well. Happy New Year!

Hey Rotem, great content as usual! Thanks for sharing. Just one question: isn't the tab at 2:37 wrong? Shouldn't it be an A flat on the 3rd string?
Yeah, the tab is off. 2313 not 2323. He plays it correctly though.
Yesss. Sorry
thank god i was so confused

Isn't that just a B major triad with it's b9 in the bass though, makes it a little less diminished in my eyes
Nice channel! Thanks! But...: Where is the octatonic scale? :-)
I was waiting for long time ..my diminished

Hey Rotem. Thanks for this awesome videos. Really like them. I would be very interessted in how you see the WT/HT and HT/WT scale. have a nice day.

Dim on II V - use the dim scale on dom or the dim arp on the V

hello, Thanks a lot for the lesson. would like to know the name of classical piece that you played in the beginning
I just played Cm & Bdim... nothing more!
It gave a vibe of moonlight sonata 3rd movement
Why do you keep singing "See lef are lemon" while playing the arpeggio?
can you do augmented next?
I'm a noob... what form of solfege is this?
