One of my absolute favorite Tori covers of all time. Always brings a tear to my eyes, but especially today after Prince's passing. He was truly talented.
I've loved Tori since the 1st time I heard "Silent All These Years". Personally relating to parts of that song made it all the more emotional. "Purple Rain" is one of my fave songs by Prince, and Tori's version is hauntingly beautiful.

This is probably my favorite cover of Purple Rain. I'm not really a Tori Amos fan but the first time I heard this cover it stopped me dead in my tracks.
She did this one ages ago, and it is still just incredible. I guess this recording is from around 1991ish? Anyone have better info than my old brain does?
+Griffin Mathers I'm pretty sure she did it live in concert a lot, so. Yeah, but I think this cover is a little younger than 91. I don't remember though. :^/
She does more than justice to this song, although I did find the screaming bit a little too much but that's just me.I think she is wonderful human being and supertalented.
Best 11 covers of Prince songs: 11-Teyana Taylor-Get Off. 10-D'angelo-She's Always in My Hair. 9-Corey Taylor-Little Red Corvette. 8-Dump-The Beautiful Ones. 7-Janelle Monae-Let's Go Crazy. 6-Elvis Costello-Raspberry Beret. 5-Tori Amos-Purple Rain. 4-Beck-1999. 3- Chaka Khan-I Feel 4 U. 2-Sinead O' Connor-Nothing Compares 2 U. 1-Foo Fighters-Darling Nikki.
@3Storms A) Nobody is ripping anybody off. Musicians translate the work of other musicians. If you knew anything, you'd know that this is the way it has been done since the beginning of fucking music. B) If you knew anything, you'd know that this is a Prince song. C) Untalented? I'm not even going to respond to that one.
the live version recorded in Minneapolis is my favourite and off and on .. you tube, I can't buy it. does anyone know that one? How I could buy it? searching that version for 5 years...Really.
I'm a little late haha but I'm not sure if you have finally finished your search for this or not but you can go to "safari" or whatever browser you use (I wouldn't recommend chrome personally) and search "youtube to mp3" and from there you can copy the link of the video and paste it and it's pretty straight forward from there on and bam, you have your song :^) I know you said you'd like to buy this song to support her but sometimes you have to do it this way or else you'll go crazy from not having it lmao.. plus they could have prevented it by putting the song on iTunes lol. but anyway I'm ramblin on, happens when I'm bored
More about the other one : the intro is very loud ... cheering.. and slower and longer piano... at the end .. so much more... minneapolis version has not been on you tube in almost 2 years.. miss it so much. please put it up or ... where to buy?? I was trying to buy it years ago.
Is that maybe on one of her "official" bootlegs maybe? Legs and Boots, IIRC. There are several, I think I saw some of them at Spotify, or I would say check Amazon or iTunes.
@yousufjaffer38 I've seen Tori several times, but sadly I think you missed her best days. Each tour since Under the Pink has gotten progressively more out of hand.
I get the sentient Richard, there is no other on this wide Earth like Mr Prince Rogers Nelson. However, there is no one like Tori and she brings something equally haunting and beautiful to Prince's seminal piece. Incidently, Mr Rogers Nelson is a massive fan of Tori. May we all live to see the dawn.
Prince himself would disagree. He gave many of his favorite songs away, was so generous. Look what happened when he gave Sinead "Nothing Compares 2 U". Prince knew she'd knock it outta the park. Purple Rain is my favorite Prince song too, friend, so I get feeling that way about it. But just another perspective to consider. I'm

Tori’s voice is half prayer and the other half a lamentation. I have to psych myself up to listen to Tori because it takes a few days to recover.
Couldn't have put it better myself
Overdramatic.
omg the ending. she is divine. just love her.
One of my wishes in life is to see her live in concert.....
So respectful to all the covers she does. She really drills down into all the lyrics to pull out the meaning and intent.
This one is the best! Gives me chills and tears every time i listen to it.
If anybody was going to nail this song, written by his father based on PIANO lyrics, we know who has the voice and GRAND PIANO TALENT! RIP. PRINCE.
Brings tears to my eyes especially the ending,, beautiful...

God that ending. Tori you rip my heart out and I love it!
Prince is looking down on Tori from heaven and is thanking her for a great cover of Purple Rain. RIP Prince.

She first did Purple Rain live in 1994.
Rest in Peace, Prince. :(
+Daniel Lucy no doubt. Super bummed! First Icon I am weeping for!
I know what you mean. I grew up listening to Prince's music, and I'm still stunned that he is gone. Huch a huge loss.
Such a fave, lovelove this cover, no words!!
So much emotion. That ending gave me chills.
LOVE THIS SONG!! Tori you rock!!
Extremely rare and extremely beautiful * +
Tori is a Goddess and aloud to sing anyones song she chooses. i am sure they would be honored!
Give me chills everytime.
Haunting and Gorgeous.
Tori Amos is a brilliant musician & singer-as was Prince
GORGEOUS! Sounds like a great concert!

Une belle emotion

Absolutely beautiful!
the best part of watching a tori concert in the twin cities is seeing her perform this live - have no doubt this bootleg was from that concert

@04jhowarth Well, it certainly stopped being "extremely rare" the second it was uploaded here ;)
@madsketcher But you did respond to a troll post, so mission accomplished. Merry Christmas
@Boddahism Right.

a video would be nice

i only want to see you laughing in the purple rain
From what year is this. 1992?
I always think of Timothy when I hear this. Such a shame... :(
was this made in a bathroom or what?
I used to like this song
Please sir, don't feed the trolls.
She sounds very soulful but the sound quality is crappy.
This sucks. I expect much from such a talent.
Hahahahaha Michael Jackson!! LOL
hahahahaha
reverb much....
if you're on youtube it's clearly not relevant.
@@joshhall1967 Me neither :)
@@joshhall1967 Thanks, Josh :) So how old are you now?
@@joshhall1967 52 :) You win!
Sorry, but only Prince can sing Purple Rain.
Ali Campbell was the best version

Sentient? Looks like you have the same insane tablet I do. But yep, I get the sentiment too.
Who is that?
@dickfartist are you stupid?
too bad the sound is so bad
For God so loved the world that He gave us Tori Amos.
