Debian with the XFCE desktop is the definition of stability.
True and the distro Crunchbang++ Debian with a preconfigured Openbox.
I agree. Debian with XFCE is simple, basic and stable!
2nd day in a row I hear about OpenBox. My crazy, wild past is calling me.
I remember my computer had become literally my Personal computer because nobody was able to use it but me.
I was running CrunchBang, which later became Bunsen Labs.
I'm starting to talk like a grandpa. "When I was younger..." 😂😂
yoooo we must have been experimenting w/ linux around the same time! Everyone in my house hated my computer because of #! too! I loved it though 😂

I’ve been using Debian Testing, which will soon be Debian Trixie, and it’s pretty impressive. The developers have done an amazing job at bringing the system more up to date, the kernel is now at 6.8.12 - and will likely continue to improve as the official release date approaches.
I really liked Debian 12, Sid and Trixie, but Hyprland was calling. Fedora 40 is terrific. But, I am hopeful Debian can work through the barriers and add Hyprland to the repo.
All of the issues Drew has had with Arch, are the same ones I've had with Debian, where Arch was the clear solution.
I really dig Debian so far. But I might give endeavour a schniff in a couple of months.
Does this really need explaining? It is a stable distro. Most people wouldn't know what version of gnome they are using or the kernel or should they really care. Does it really matter if you are running Kernel 6.1 or 6.9 most of the time if the hardware is supported on both ... no.
I switched to debian, because arch had to old packages.
What? xD That's BS
okay Bizarro, time for you to go back to the mirror dimension!
@@theundefinedx0018 No it isn't. With debian, I can run on unstable, but install select packages from experimental. Using that gave me gcc and clang about 2-5 days behind the git master branch. E.g. I was on clang-18 3 month before the release and could play with the newer features. You can also install multiple compiler versions at once. On arch you can't do that, unless you build them from source weekly.
@@theundefinedx0018 debian unstable/sid ;)
Debian couldnt endure Hyprland longer than 10 minutes in a row, when I tested it. I not really like Debian or any derivatives at all. I'm younger than 60.
Not everyone uses Hyprland. The arch users i know recommended against arch. I don't want to fix my system or wipe it because a random update fails and this would be a regular occurrence.
@@nou712What are you doing with your system that would lead to reinstalling regularly? I've only installed Arch once, use it daily with Hyprland and Plasma 6 (originally 5.27) and I mess with stuff often trying to get the best of both, but I haven't had to reinstall, yet. It's been 4 months, but I was reinstalling Windows more often than that for years.
Latest Hyprland doesn't even run in virtual machine anymore, so yeah Hyprland is using the latest and greatest libraries. That's never been what Debian is about. Other than transitions, what does Hyprland really have over other tiling WM? The reason to use Debian is beyond the DE or WM. Debian is a rock solid production server, and world class engineers "younger than 60" know the value of that.
@@mariogutierrez4989 There are two rock stabilities: The "it works then I dont upgrade never ever" Debian, and "It may fail, but it never ever has" Tumbleweed/Rawhide. The first one is too boring, like you are afraid of living. Then Hyprland is playing at the edge.
@@nou712tbh I never had my system break on arch, ironically I had a failed update on debian and I had to fight apt to get it working correctly
First.
