A few other ways Astro Bot hit it out of the park:
-Taking full advantage of the PS5's graphics power and haptic feedback capabilities, and using those capabilities to enhance gameplay. It's not just eye candy for eye candy's sake, but is fully integrated into the game mechanics.
-Rewarding curiosity, thus making players want to explore every facet of the environment.
-Treating beloved IPs and gaming history with respect.
I adored the PS VR version and I hope this one will get a VR2 version. Huge bosses are so much more impressive in VR. But I'm happy playing the normal version until it happens :)

This is one of those rare games where, I don't want to wait for it to go on discount, I want to pay full price because Team Asobi knocked it out of the fucking park, they made an amazing, incredible game and the price I'm willing to pay is the reflection of that good work. Everyone should be willing to buy this thing at full price to show our support for these types of projects.
Spyro 4, New Banjo, New Jak and Daxter, these are the games I want to see. Not to mention the other developers that will be inspired and create their own projects. I'm excited!

I havent fallen in love with a (full) game this way since Odyssey. (I was in love with playroom) Its exactly what i want and I’m glad so many people feel the same as me. He is right when he says that it makes me fall back in love with gaming. I am a huge fan of the early ratchet and clank games and astrobot gives me the same joy as those games did and continue to bring me. 10/10

Astrobot has so much potential with multplayer. Fun adventure with friends,competitive silly games,racing in vehicles and on foot,time trials,bot creator.
Hardcore nintendo fan here. There are plenty of little gems, but you're always having to go hunt for them. When is the last time before astro bot that one of these was an unqualified gem, and it actually got promoted on a big stage? and Mario does not count. I pray this gets spyro 4 the time it needs to be just right, and maybe finally get Rayman 4 done

Games nowadays are going after the trend of live service games and they want you to have your time to play these games. As someone who hasn’t played that much live service games except Fortnite and Fall Guys, it’s really tiresome when you had to complete a task which it will take a couple of hours to complete and playing different live service games becomes very exhausted and tiresome. I wanted to as much time on other games at the same time, taking a break from game for a little while. I’ve seen 2 games not just Concord that got shut down a few years ago and that is Rumbleverse and Knockout City. As for Astro Bot, is definitely considered a fun platformer and I’m planning to get Astro Bot for PS5. If the gaming industry follows the success of Astro Bot, then we will see new platformer IPs or past IPs make a comeback.
Finally a space themed game that offers more than a handful of planets. The amount of main levels on offer here with different mechanics and themes is awesome. Setting the bar high for the next Mario..

With the success of Astro Bot, can you imagine Sony doing a Bloodborne platformer lmao. That would be a bit weird but completely hilarious to see the IP shift genre and actually working in a fun way.
Considering Elden Ring has a jump button which Elden Ring is developed by From Software the minds behind Dark Souls and Bloodborne, a Bloodborne Platformer doesn't sound completely out of possibility.
Well, for now one can at least cosplay the good hunter on the ghost levels in Astro. 👻

Great video, CG!! This is very transparent and clear and I love it! I hope people/companies listen to this and take notes on what you're saying and what the success of Astro Bot means/is saying here! I didn't even realize how successful that game was actually! 😊 And I totally agree, games like Fortnite or even Minecraft (I'd say) were popular at the time cause they kind of "broke the mold", if you will, AT THAT TIME, but when you keep making online-based games like those that aren't matching the same level of enjoyment from fans as what came before, then you need to stop, think, and change course to make more titles that focus on what the players want to see and make things that are fun to play. Instead, what we are seeing in front of us is a bunch of cancelled/canned/sub-par games get churned out like butter at extremely high prices with microtransactions that I'm (and many others are) not even that interested in. Fun should always be first; it's like what you said, you can't lose what makes games fun in the first place. Yep, that's my opinion as well, at least.
Regarding Mario: I see the goal of perfection there, but not love. Many of Nintendo’s games feel polished but sterile.

No, because one of the things about astro is it is challenging, but not impossible so it appeals to a wide range of people.
Crash became much a brutally difficult game aimed at platforming hardcore's. They would really need to dumb it down
Man Astro bot was one of games I enjoy it a lot than the other games. I miss it a lot to get a cante to enjoy and fun . I hope this change the game industry.
Team Asobi was able to pull off the new Astro Bot due to their extensive years of work on Astro's Playroom as a PS5 launch title system pack in. Five years IIRC. The new Astro Bot is relying heavily upon the graphical/game engine built for that. I'd love to see Sony dig back into their classic library of classics.. PaRappa the Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy, Ape Escape, Jumping Flash, Puppeteer, Twisted Metal WipEout, Warhawk, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, Jak & Daxter, Hot Shots Golf, but Sony seems to be content with just giving us a nod to them with Astro Bot, which is sad.
I am so happy to see another 3D platformer found a huge success both in fans and gaming reviewers. I would love to see game on STEAM.

Ps5 is a ps4 remaster machine. When ps6 comes out they might not have any more ps4 games and ps6 can become the ps2 and 1 remaster machine yay
Shorter production cycles with smaller teams would finally end the complaint "This console generation has no games!" AND they'll only be THREE years behind a trend instead of EIGHT. Or MORE!
This time we see the nintendo like level design, on a sony's game. Not only nintendo-like level design, also the hardware functions used in game. Creative, funny, and also as simple as everyone can enjoy, without decrease the diffculty, just by good level design.

Not to mention all the references to now obscure games which Sony have just been sitting on the IP for years.
Yes, Astro Bot Rescue Mission set to shake things up about 6 years ago. Unfortunately, I think the latest Astro Bot entry despite being good and very well polished, was as step backwards in terms of what was ultimately possible it terms of actual creativity and memorability in this space. I get it that the PSVR2’s adoption rate may not justify a budget as to what Astro Bot was able to get, but personally, I would rather see the absolute best of what is possible with this IP. Just as Mario IP is ever present across multiple media fronts, genres, etc…I just hold out hope that Sony doesn’t completely abandon what I believe is the best creative space for Astro and its fans.

Idk how anyone could possibly think that crash 4 wouldn't be full price regardles of the trilogy. They brought a gaming legend back to life.
I think what makes Astrobot special is the nostalgic joy you genuinely feel when you see your beloved bots as cameos of games you used to play as a kid. No game in recent history made me feel this joy. Rebirth and remake is one but that is a different level it was supposed to make you feel that way.
I hope Astro Bot is not abandoned and they come up with New Game+ and some DLC, they left the door wide open to having adventures on all the older platform and doing the awesome mini IP remakes
I love astro bot and have always prefered sony's legacy games like Sly, ratchet and Jak among bunch of other titles over Nintendo but in this day and age Nintendo is the king and I hope you are right that Astro Bot is going to be a change in the industry because I am just so tired of Sony's buisness model and I want them to go back to how they were in the PS1 and 2 era. here is hoping that a change it about to happen!
I love all the hype for this game but when is PS going to release total sales numbers??? Because as amazing as this game is, and the critical acclaim that accompanies it, the biggest factor in green lighting more is how many people spoke with their wallets? So, if you're reading this and you want to play it, buy it now.(if you can afford it. I dont advocate debt) Because money talks and will be the ultimate deciding factor on the longevity of this becoming a franchise.
A great part that i dont see anyone talking about is how this game is also creating new gamers in the 4-9 yr old demo. I grew up playing NES Mario games. Then sega and snes etc etc. i get to introduce my son to gaming and be able to enjoy it together

Astrobot is one of the greatest games of all time already. Easily in my top 10 ever made. Such a great game and I cannot recommend enough

Nintendo games are simply way overrated and gets an easy pass on lotts of things
Sackboys Big Adventure is underrated
It isn't just Astrobot that found success on a lower and more controlled budget, it's this thing called AA Budgeted games, which back in the PS2 days and to an extent the HD era of gaming were very much present on top of ones with bigger budgets and the like.
One of the best examples I can think of is those devs at Nacon who made Terminator Resistance and Robocop Rogue City a couple of banger titles based on legendary 80's IP with a controlled budget.
The two of them got some success but nowhere near as Spectacular as Astrobot it was a matter of time before someone made a AA title so righteous that it took the world by storm, the industry including Sony themselves are definitely going to be taking notes, Sony just has to clean out the stench of Jim Ryan first then showtime.

Will be interesting to see what Team Asobi do next. I'd personally love for them to do their take on Mario Kart/CTR with the Astro Bot IP. With their vibrant levels, fun powerups, and PlayStation theming I think they could build something amazing (even by just reusing a lot of the stuff they've already got in place).
After playing that Ape Escape themed level, that's also got right to the top of my list of old games I'd like to get a new title!

This is what I like about the old Spyro games, short, simple and sweet, although they're short games, they're memorable. And as an example, I've only completed Red Dead 2 twice, the first time, I really enjoyed it, the second time, not so much, I felt it was a bit of a drag second time round. And the best mission is the one where Arthur gets drunk in a bar, randomly going around shouting "Lenny!" lol i love my horsey and my horsey love me

I'm gonna be blunt, I doubt it's gonna do much but let the studio survive another day especially after Sony's latest disaster, we'll still see Mario and Sonic because their Mascots for their respective companies, for others, we'll have to see, I mean Croc and Epic Mickey getting another chance at life, so anything possible, if anything, companies will likely get the wrong ideas like they always do, good on Astrobot, but like Ready Player One, I'll rather play the games it references than it itself personally, especially since I'm not spending S'ton money on a Console just for this, at least Nintendo usually has stuff I'm interested in
