Exactly, if the joint is a lot wider sometimes it will require foam backing rod between the frame and brickwork. This creates a backer, something to hold the silicone in place. This also saves on silicone wasted as the backing rod is a lot cheaper than the silicone 👍
I always use Everbuild 825 Low Modulus Silicone. If you're going to use another brand just make sure it is Low Modulus (LM) as this is designed for external use. High modulus (HM) is designed for internal use
Thanks for the vid my friend, please 2 questions, what silicone do you use, all the good ones I use are £10 a tube, the builders don't like the bill when we do a whole house! Also, where do you get the sticks from, I've been using the fugi tool, but it leaves a residue behind, only noticeable when dry, tried a wavey stick from dortech but too wide and even with soapy water they pull the silicone out.
@@leekreeger9885 Yes it can lead to bad adhesion if excessive amounts of soap water is used. As for the sticks wearing down I sharpen my sticks troughout the day with a fixed blade Stanley knife and can cut any size stick to suit any size gap. I'd like to try using spatula type tools though is that what you speak of?
Yes.bit you can also use tuck pointing tools and grind them to shape you need.you put a nice bead down but you tool very lightly and that leads to bubbles and adhesion problems.i get its trim with little movement
Should make a how too video, how cut your tip, what type of gun to use, how you cut your sticks for tooling etc
Deft a good idea to show all .
Yes how everyone how to do it and ruin your business
Show us how you make the sticks ! :)

Excellent work!!!
What if the joint is wider ? Do you have a different stick which is wider ?

Just about to fit a double glazing unit in my garage conversion. What make of external mastic would you recommend for around the edge of uPVC unit?

Hi I use Mapei sealant or 3c HM sealant all supplied by www.sealantsonline.co.uk
I make my own sticks I could sell you some
U know the bloke is the real deal hes got a cox gun
Piece of pish, nice job
I wish all contractors would cloak the Jams up. Joint sizes that small are unheard of
Sweet
Jesus thats a labour intensive trade.
My arm was aching so much after making this video... from holding my phone to film it 💃
@RobDog it is water and soap/fairy liquid. I cut the sticks myself with a sharp Stanley blade. Pine is fine
Leaves this viewer feeling ignored: why not speak to us and explain what you are doing and what your technique is?
Not bad
nope, still cant, will leave it to the pros.
I am so shit at this!
Dude why wood sticks? You know they make real tools to finish caulk?
My wooden sticks are very real and hand crafted. It's a lot more satisfying making your own tools and not paying someone else
The problem is wood wears down quick, and the caulk sticks to it.thats the reason you need to spray it with soapy water which can lead to bad ahesion.

Mask it up and use brown white looks awful
Thanks for the advice but I wouldn't earn any money that way. Also brown would look turd
That's for window fitters, not mastic men
