I grew Callaloo for the first time this year and it is almost ready to pick. I can't wait to try this recipe. Do you ever put in any other spices, like Tumeric? Thanks!
Don't put tumeric it will ruin the taste and taste bitter just experiment with all purpose seasoning sprices or garlic seasonings like club house garlic plus
@@RacquelsCaribbeanCuisine I forgot to tell you that I took my black queen to MBJ about six months ago. That was the first time that we heard of and ate callaloo and we both loved it. We’ve been looking for it everywhere here in Texas and it’s pretty much impossible to find it.
@@kelvinharrison591 Yes Callaloo is hard to come by in some places, but you can try looking for it in the can, also spinach can be a substitute. I am glad you and your Queen like it. Bless up Kelvin 👍🏾

I just returned from St Thomas Virgin Islands and I fell in love with the Jamaican beef patties!! I saw this Callaloo recipe and will try it. Looks delicious and easy.
Rachael, it was my very first time trying this dish on XMas day, and it was the talk of the dinner. My family loved it. However, it just wasn't enough for all to have seconds. Thanks for sharing this recipe.❤❤🎉🎉🎉
So I have massive amounts of kale and swiss chard in the garden right now and was looking for new ways to cook it. I followed the recipe as closely as I could, sadly no virgin coconut oil in the pantry, and it came out fantastic. Maybe next year I'll plant some Callaloo! It would be nice to have a link to your all purpose seasoning blend in the recipe.
Hello, I'm not sure what's the best way to reach you besides here but we were wondering if you wouldn't mind if we reviewed your video? Very beautifully done and looks amazing!! ❤
Thank you for the response but to put it simply, what I mean is we would be reviewing your video, side-by-side commentary on your wonderful techniques on cooking Callaloo.
Respectfully, the leaf is called Callaloo. Spinach can be substituted which is often the case outside of the Carribean as it is sometimes difficult to find Callaloo. People throughout the African Diaspora prepare a variety of dishes with many types of greens there are just times WE have to substitute with what WE can access. I am Haitian American.🇭🇹
I'm Haitian 🇭🇹 American too! @tiziay....and yes...this is Callaloo...but I think in English it is called Amaranth? Callaloo and spinach definitely have different textures. But All greens benefit our health.
Not according to google “Callaloo is full of a variety of proteins which makes it great for building muscle. The fibre in the plant helps to prevent constipation and create a good environment for the healthy growth of your immune system. It is also a great agent for weight loss”
Rubbish. With any green vegetable, whatever gives the vegetable it’s green colour, also carries the beneficial nutrients. The veg was still green after cooking, and cooked at a low heat in its own moisture.

Ok cook for less time if you sees fit 👍🏾
spinach is different from callalo
Callaloo is referred to as Spinach in some parts of the world.
It's called spinach in Trinidad and Tobago.
They also call taro leaves callaloo.
This is what Kamala should have said she ate instead of lying about making collard greens in the bathtub.
So collalou is spinach??
Callaloo is also referred to as Spinach, there are different varieties of Spinach.

The nutrients of the greens have been destroyed becsuse you fry and cook the food in oil
