    AWESOME, thanks for this. I actually like to do my salad/greens in slightly cooler places (My grow lights are also in my basement) and I typically do heat mats under most seeds starting, but not on my salad greens, etc.I leave the heat mats for peppers and tomato, that prefer warmer soils.

    I have my first tray going, but I put a little soil over the top and didn't weight them. Some are already a good 4 inches tall, and it's only been 4 days.

    My broccoli micro green don't leaves don't seem to be as large as yours look? I am using the same brand of seeds that you use. Do you have any suggestions?

      Usually it is either lighting, nutrients, or time. Sometimes you just need to wait another 2-3 days to allow the cotyledons to get bigger. Otherwise, consider adding more time to the grow lights timer, or moving the lights a bit closer to the trays.

    I tried hydroponic but got what looks like mold on the roots. Your video popped up and just what I was looking for. Excellent information…great instructions. Thank you.

    Great video for those starting or interested in this. I've started growing slightly before the start of the 2020 pandemic and it's been a success. I've planted so many varieties. They are SO EASY to grow, and so valuable for their cost. They taste great, and if you tell family and friends that you grow them, word gets out and sooner than later you have a few restaurants trying to reach out to get some. One of the most profitable and easiest side businesses I've ever seen. And all you need is a shelf, some USB powered fans, and some T8 lights = no need to get fancy greenhouse fans OR grow lights if on a budget. I've planted so many trays and never had one fail.

    So after you cut them is the tray done ? Or do they regrow up in the tray ?

    • @tracyebeacham
      @tracyebeacham 2 месяца назад

      they do not regrow after you've cut them. You need to start completely over with soil and seeds.

    Try compacting the soil for a change, you may be surprised with the results😉 Also soaking any large seeds for 24-48h will help a lot to boost germination.

    What is the purpose of using the weights?

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse  Месяц назад

      It simulates them being underground, encourages them to grow stronger and push through the soil! They are optional though

    Growing Purple Sango Radish, Brocoli and Spicy Salad Mix right now. Alfalfa Sprouts as well because they're fast to grow. I use coco coir exclusively as its clean and never have fungus gnats in there. I've used pro mix and without sterilization they are present. Pepper plants I can spray them off, microgreens they go in the compost.

    Id like to grow them for my hamster. Do they affect fungus gnats or spider mites? I have a lot of tropical plants and these 2 pests are a near constant battle.

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse  8 месяцев назад +1

      Fungus gnats can happen. But, the turnaround time with microgreens is pretty fast. After harvesting - be sure not keep any soil-filled trays hanging around your plants. A fan also helps. We also have some videos on our Pepper Geek channel that can help you get rid of the gnats and mites on your tropical plants :)

    considering doing this, this winter. Any tips for the trays after you harvest? Is it a purge and replace sort of deal or do some seedlings regenerate?

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse  8 месяцев назад +2

      The soil from the trays goes right into our raised beds for spring !

    What does the stacking do for the seeds? Good video and great timing, just started to grow microgreens

    • @geekygreenhouse
      @geekygreenhouse  8 месяцев назад +1

      Stacking with weights helps to simulate the seeds being underground for a strong start. So, they have to push up through that weight. Stacking (and weighting) is also optional, but recommended. Good luck with your greens!
