      I've got 66,000 miles on the clock. I'd like to say I haven't had to do anything other then change the tyres, brake disks and pads but my exhaust mount snapped at 30,000 miles/4 years old and I had to replace it (the exhaust mount was corroded when I bought it at 10,000 miles/2 years old) ... It was extremely cheap to replace though, about £35. I'm a machanic so I do all the work myself, the control arm bushing is starting to wear out too and that's probably going to be the most expensive job I'll have done at around £120 for parts

    I have the 2012 aygo, I drive maybe 40% in the city and 60% on twisty hilly Country roads, my fuel economy ranges from 70-76mpg with a best tank of 79mpg. This car gets better fuel economy in the city for me, it only gets better fuel ecomony on the motorway if there's allot of traffic around to keep the air flowing in the direction you're travelling, if you have to fight the air without assistance its more around 68mpg instead of 75-80mpg (the 79mpg best tank was set on a 300 mile trip doing 55mph in the left lane following a convoy of lorries). If you have to fight a headwind you're screwed too, I had to on a dual carriageway recently and ended up doing 40mph uphill against the wind. This car isn't built for speed, it's built for fuel efficiency and I still love it because of that.

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  4 года назад

      Thats incredible economy

    • @micheals1992
      @micheals1992 4 года назад

      @@HighPeakAutos personally I wouldn't expect many other people to get these kind of figures, I started learning hypermiling techniques after finding my economy was nowhere near the stated 68mpg, more like 55mpg when I first started driving after passing my test. I wanted to see if it was possible and I guess I never stopped.
      Its nothing extreme though, mostly I just read the road better and slow down using engine braking (sometimes lightly pressing the brake to turn on the brake lights if needed for people following) in fuel cut off mode over a longer distance instead of braking hard when I get to a hazard or junction. To be honest reading the road better reduces stress massively and I'm glad that I got over the mentality that you need to rush to the next set of lights to just stop and wait.
      I also block the grill during the winter leaving a small gap for cooling but mostly using the cabin heater for cooling, I noticed that on the coolant temp monitor that it runs cold and even with the grill block can still struggle to maintain its temp until the underbonnet air temp rises. It definitely helps offset the winter drop. Plus more heat can be transferred into the cabin and less out of the engines radiator. My partner always comments how warm my car is inside during the winter. Most of the cooling is done keeping the interior warm.

    My wife got a Hyundai i10 1.2. 4 year old car. I didn't expect much from it but it's a hoot to drive you can really throw it around and it's no slouch off the line. We drove 300 miles to Scotland only stopped once then drove around all day and it was effortless comfortable and economically. Try one if you haven't. New one is meant to be even better. Aygo looks a nice little run around but think the i10 might beat it.

      When you first purchases Aygo did you have problems with the clutch as the biting point is so high. I bought Aygo start of Feb and I am still stalling it and have problems controlling the car when stop starting up a hill of traffic. I have actually rolled the car back 3 times now. I been driving for 25 years but now drive like a learner. Other than this issue, i do like the Aygo.

      @@skygazer6898 I haven't got the Aygo now but I had it for a year or so. In that time I had no problem with the clutch or anything else. I still love that car and miss it so much. Only reason I changed was that my model didn't have a rear view camera or navigation (Google Maps is fine though). Have a word with a local garage as I think the biting point can be adjusted, I think it's a simple procedure. Or check the cost of a new clutch. Speak with local mechanic

    Picked up a high mileage one recently for a very good price. One of the rear drum breaks had some "major" issues and they decided to just sell in on cheap rather than pay what their local garages were quoting. Quick bit of research and about £40 in parts and I had both drums back to showroom condition. Every single other typical Aygo fault has either been replaced recently or working fine and the whole thing looks/feels like a car half it's mileage.
    For a cheap and actually rather fun city car, you just can't go wrong and short of running out of oil, almost impossible to kill.
    My advice if you're handy with a spanner is go cheap and do the work yourself. Super easy and dead cheap to repair and you might walk away with an utter bargain.

    Had mine for 3 years from new and thoroughly loved and abused it! I got through a set of pads in 13k (though they are soft pads) and tyres in 7k. It saw the red line every day, had 4 people in the back row and put the biggest smile on my face, despite mates thinking it's a joke car. It went on 700+ mile round journeys and I never had to worry about finding a parking space in the city. I've had what others would deem to be much better, 300bhp, cars (those people probably turning their nose up at this aygo), before, during and after this aygo, but this is the one car that made me smile the most - though, *caveat* not sure if that's just because it was on a lease w/maintenance included. 🤣

    I think these cars will end up appreciating tbh, most manufacturers are stopping making cheap to buy cars so 10-ish years down the line what are 17 year olds going to buy who need a cheap to run/insure car? These will be all that’s left and everyone will be snapping them up. The 1st generation Aygo/C1/107 are already expensive for what they are as there’s huge demand for them and supply will definitely decrease over the next 10 years.

    I have a BMW Z3 which has a 6 cylinder engine of 2.0 l capacity giving 140bhp. The little 3 cylinder Aygo/C1/107/108 three cylinder engine gives 70 bhp from 1l. So the Aygo engine is exactly half a BMW 6.

    Had a top spec auto in 2014 it was ok on the flat but was very slow on hills, I don't know why they didn't out the 1.2 engine in it with 82 bhp like they did in the Peugeot 108 which is basically the same car.

    Had 2 thanks to my daughter, I agree entirely 1st one a bit basic (previous model) but well engineered latest version fab so cheap and takes a lot of abuse, a lot quieter than 1st but is gutless, why they didn’t as you said fit a small turbo I’ll never know if it had a bit more go I’d have one myself. Maybe they could call it the Morgo 🤣

    When you were mumbling about buses and taxi's Matt, you weren't going past Victoria station where you?
    It's just that a number of years ago I was following my sat-nav and it took me down along the front of Victoria station and although I noticed some signs about buses and taxi's, I never paid them much notice. A few weeks later I got a letter through the door stating that I had been fined (can't remember how much), so, because of a sat-nav I ended up with a bill for driving through Manchester.

    Trying to decide between one of these or the other similarly priced small car options like the panda or citigo. The fiat and Skoda are quite a bit more practical with space in the boot but does the aygo's reliability and better mpg make up for the lack of space ?🤔. Great review and love that you share your thoughts on little ones like this as well as the exotic stuff.

    We've got the Peugeot 108 1.0 version, it drives nicely for a small car and holds the road well, but 1st gear can be reluctant to engage whilst moving. I've wondered why they didn't do a sporty turbo either especially as I think Daihatsu did a blower version with the engine originally. Long hills can be a bit of a problem with just two up, and the false floor in the boot can buckle under heavy weights whilst you tend to get your hands mucky closing the hatch! I really miss having centre and side window vents though, while the lack of a parcel shelf doesn't bother me as it's too small to place items on anyway. However, it could do with a rev counter as standard seeing as you have to give it a lot of welly because of the lack of torque. (Grown up is the term I've heard used to differentiate it as opposed to the old car).

    I have a Peugeot 108 which is the same car (same engine gearbox etc it’s even made in the same factory) and you can save around 2-3k compared to the Aygo! The Citroen C1 is also the same car but I prefer the looks of the Peugeot. Also, never choose the 1.2 engine (always the 1.0 as it’s a Toyota engine and the 1.2 is French) and never get the automatic version always the manual.
