THE RITCHIE REVIEW - Toyota Aygo.

- The Toyota Aygo is the cheapest car for 17 year olds to insure, so in this review, Howard Ritchie considers it's potential as the ideal first car or the best car for Mum. Howard takes the supermini for a test drive around town to find out how good it is.
Toyota Lease Prices Page: shorturl.at/tJLPX
Toyota PCP Offers Page: shorturl.at/blLN9
Toyota Stats:
Engine: 1.0 L 3-cylinder
Power: 72hp (it feels fast enough)
0-60: Well, it will do 60!
Gearbox: Auto or Manual
Fun Roof: Oh very.
To find out which super mini is best is no easy task. Essentially in this case - it is the one with the smallest insurance premium AND the one which is likely to break down the least. Toyota have again won another award for reliability but this is a very competitive space and so finding the best one is no easy task.
The used Aygo quoted in this video did have 60,000 miles, quite high for a tiny engine. It’s also worth remembering if you do low miles, leasing a small car might be less of a headache. Leasing is the same as a PCP that you get from a dealer however at the end of the term you simply hand the car back, with a PCP there is always a future payment to be made if you want to keep the car.
Both PCP and Leasing are smart options for peace of mind, especially as the payments when leasing include VED and in many cases you won’t have to service the car or worry about warranty issues or breakdown.
Had mine for just over a month now as my first car. Loving it so far
Should I buy this, vw polo or ford focus
@@isokessu go for the Toyota
im to tall for this car
@@isokessu I think the newer ones have more features in them but the 2012 model is a pretty basic car but I still love it as a mechanic and a driver. If you don't mind having a basic car I'd probably go for the Aygo. Maintenance is cheap, parts are cheap and it's economical and reliable.
had one for 3 years now. still have it, and not planning on changing that until maintenance cost exceed 1000 euro, which, at the current pace of degradation should be a good while, considering my yearly inspection constists of an oil change and a cleaned windshield wiper
My first car was a Toyota Aygo from 2007. Now I have another Toyota Aygo from 2017. I find the seats very uncomfortable but that might also be because I am very small. Apart from the seats, I would say it is a really good and reliable little car. Because it's very light, it speeds up pretty quickly, it stops very quickly so you can have fun with it. It does struggle a lot uphill, compared to Migra or Fiat 500. I feel that uphill it doesnt have good grip and if you have an automatic Aygo, you'll be driving in 4th gear and suddly uphill it drops to second gear and high revs with a noise scratching your ears and brains. However, you can have an amazing relationship with it if you get to know your Aygo and learn how it behaves in order to control it properly and minimise downsides and Aygo's moodiness. Yes, Aygo has its own personality and moodiness :)). Driving in town is very easy, not to mention easy to park, easy to squeze, good stearing - front wheel connection, so you can actually "feel" the turns, especially when driving on windy roads. Speaking of that, it's not a sporty car, so up hills, like in our Peak District areas with sharp bends, Aygo is not the most stable on the road, but the fact that it stops very quickly makes up for it. That said, it will be entertaining to drive, very exhilarating sometimes :)). Fuel consumption is very good, rarely encountered any technical problems with it, good runaround, very steady on motorways (beware when it's windy and you overtake a lorry :))) the car is very light and it feels like it's about to fly). So far I've definitely enjoyed driving it but I think I might look around for another model that has better seats.
i got a 16 plate great comfortable car its done nearly 72.000 its so reliable i been to Blackpool Newcastle upon Tyne Tamworth i love these cars
I've had mine for 8 years and added 80,000 miles to the original 10,000 miles, it's 10 years old and had absolutely no issues with it. I change the oil every 5,000 miles though and spark plugs and air filter every 20,000 miles.
I had a Fiat 500 but now have an Aygo and love it coz it is good fun to drive - no other reason
Is Aygo smaller than Fiat 500
@@Stevenson918 Very similar but Aygo has 4 doors and feels a little bit bigger inside. Just my opinion - not sure what the actual measurements are. I’m talking about the Fiat 500 before the version on sale now
The one problem with new small cars is the existance of $2000 used, but recent, 2010-ish small cars that does everything a new one does for 1/5 the cost, especially toyotas.
Hey HR in a Car is back ! how ever did I miss this, still the production guru, the gold standard in car reviewing. more please H
The fiat 500 is more manley because men like to fix their car when it breaks down every day.
Yes, good to see you back again, absolutely the best
Man I just found this channel. Pure gold.
On my 3rd Aygo, I'm a mum and I love them !! Best small car on the road !!!!
Just bought a 2016 model, 22,022 on clock, white with black parts. Darn good! Considered Peugeot 108 and Citreon C1, but went with the aygo cos it looks the best.
Just discovered this channel and the production value is incredible. What a shame there isn't any new content.
Wow mate thanks !!!! Lovely words. I am making content over here… love to see u over there :) ruclips.net/user/contracthireandleasing
Hey HR , dont quit , you are awesome keep going man your channel will grow , you got some quality material compared to other buffoons
Haha
And that was his last video.. unfortunately
@@HRINACAR We demand more videos HR
I saw that Howard was reviewing an "Aygo". So "I went" :-))... I lied. I stayed. After all, it is Howie :-))...
I can remember what I did in my first car. A blue Mini Clubman. That was some 42 years ago. And what I did in it, isn't fit to repeat on RUclips without getting seriously red flagged!! ;-))...
But my Mini had something that this Aygo doesn't have. A choke and wind down windows :-))...
It's not for Japan it's made in Czechoslovakia for the European market
I remember picking this car in Forza 4, putting a 2zz into it, and demolishing everything in the game.
ha
Love the review had one of these for nearly a year loved it ..have a Fiat 500c now :)
poor you
God, I was just thinking about your channel the other day but I could not remember what it was called! This is perfect timing. I love your content and I sincerely hope you get to make more of it.
I have been on Leasing.com channel mate. I need to think of a catchy name! #BadRecall - thank you for words. Nice words.
Shame you’ve stopped growing this channel :( you’re rather good at this car reviewing malarkey 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks v much!!!! I went to leasing.com channel for the moment sir. Lovely comment.
@@HRINACAR Oh marvellous! Just subscribed there, glad your talent hasn’t gone to waste
Ha ha silly :) thanks brother
Dang, for the first minute and a half, I thought I was watching Mat Watson.
How is that? Where are you based?
Mum here 😁 thoroughly enjoyed this, just bought a blue one. Funny guy!
Mine is a lovely blue
Nice one!
Very nice review, thank you!
Can someone help how is the seating position and vision for a short person in an Aygo? I see that the steering wheel cannot be aligned for depth, the headrest of the seat does not seem adjustable either. I have watched so many reviews but its always for tall people, while short people might need more information in this case as they struggle a lot with finding a car that they can actually drive comfortably and safe. Thanks in advance!
Adrienn Baris yes you can pump seat and it’s made for possible older or younger or slightly shorter but obviously go see if u can sit in one somewhere.
Hi I used to sit on a cushion in mine as well chuck had the same problem :)
@@indya4389 same here. I have to use cushions under my bum and the lumbar area otherwise the seat has a weird C-shape and the steering wheel a little too high.
Needs a t-plane crankshaft though.
Good to see you back on the Tube again Howard!
Cheers Bob
@@HRINACAR Haha you got me!
BEST SMALL STYLISH ECONOMICAL AND RELIABLE CAR IN HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately in London you can't drive in the city without being charged congestion charge and also stuck in a 20 mph zone doing 3 mph, Or getting flashed doing 21mph. London sucks the fun out of driving pleasurably 🙄
I use mine in the suburbs of Greater London, so I guess you can't really call it a city car anymore.😮💨
Thank you for very nice review, Please could you give me the link for if you have done review for Aygo MMT. I am in Norway. I am planning to buy Aygo MMT in a week or so. But I do not know anything about MMT. I am not sure whether MMT is as good as automatic transmission. Any information on that will be very helpful. Thank you for your help. Please let me know
Shift is the only annoying feature to me. I drive by ear. Both just
don't work together.
These cars made so much sense when they used to cost £20 to tax, at £150...? Not so much.
What's it about Brit's that they do sarcasm so well?
The weather is bad all the time. That alone breeds sarcasm
The new 500 (electric) costing less? Might want to check that out!
doesnt cost less its 25g, a base model petrol foat 500 is about the same money, but the fiat does 10mpg less for the same performance, its two door only, and has much higher service costs and a cam belt to replace, and is much less stable at 70mph
I just don't think this small car has that great of a fuel efficiency compared to bigger cars which have a better or same fuel consumption
I get around 68-75mpg in the Aygo.
What a superb review!! You could run Top Gear, on your own, without any other presenters. Or maybe Richard Hammond. But you really made me laugh and still have a good, balanced review. Thank you!!
Lol dude.
How tall are you? Can a 6.2 feet man drive it
Yes mate
SHPPING NOT INCLODED?
The 500 he showed is the new electric only one which is actually about 30 grand so wouldn’t call it the same kind of money
Why does it feel like he is roasting the car through the entire video? 😂
He is British. And british loves to complain. That's why europe hates them. Brexit was a relief.
@@BASH_ANGEL lol
😂😂was funny
Bash & Go bruh
The question we all want to know is how much toyota there is in this car. We know the chassis and engine isn’t toyota. Like the new yaris being a Mazda.
Then you'd be wrong with the engine is entirely Toyota, the chassis was a joint design venture with Peugeot, built-in a Toyota factory,
need more reviews from u! come back!
Thanks bro. Over here also - I wait your comments :) ruclips.net/video/IK7LbwaI864/видео.html
What a load of bullocks. This car wasn't developed for small Japanese streets. This car was developed with Peugeot and Citroen especially for the European market.
yep spot on
Exactly. Is not a true Toyota. Just like the new yaris being a mazda (chassis and engine). True toyotas start at corolla/prius level
@@cautilligab it's still a Toyota a European one, Japanese manufacturers have always worked with other specialist suppliers, and in this case using Bosch parts, the factory and the engines are all toyota, collaborations are the future from car makers
@@jusb1066 You're absolutely right, and not only for economical reasons. Because of this (and the fact that they use a 3-cylinder Daihatsu engine with decades of development) , these cars have a very small carbon footprint. They are very reliable, very cheap to drive and maintain and are better for the environment than almost any other car out there (including electric cars).
Thats what makes this the 'best first car'.
@@woltervandenberg I've been driving for 30 years and this is like my 10th car 😁
I wish reviewers would tell their height. I'm 6'3" and wonder if I would fit in an Aygo.
Yep 6.1
Good review😉 But Stop generalizing! what makes you think this is just a first car. Or for Mum's. Many men drive this car as well because it's economical cheap insurance and cheap to run period.🤐
Love the Aygo but.... how do you secure magnetic P plates ? Daughter passed test and wants to display P plates. I am that mum.
The man in Halfords will know. :)
It's ok. Teen worked out that one goes on the bonnet and the other stuck bottom of window. With command tape.
I have a 19 plate aygo. it doesnt have the touch screen
I have one of these and when I pull off in 1st gear it makes a sort of whining/humming sound, it's very quiet but it sounds a bit like the noise a car makes in reverse, is this normal ?
Ha no its very not. Take it in :)
Had this as a replacement vehicle whilst my car was being fixed. Its trash
Hey this is Owen Hunt!!
haha I got Robert that footballer and now this... Owen is a dude... I'll take that.
i had it since new
And another thing, good luck with the Halfords shelf-speakers. This car only has a soft shelf which is definately not suited for speakers. He didn't even look at the car properly.
agreed
I don’t have any issues with my sound system in my Aygo. Loud and good quality sound.
Think I might have been joking there. - and another thing :)
Voiceover man? 😉
@@andypalin3287 yes friend tough times :)
Where the hell have you been?! Lol
Here mate ! God - keep up ruclips.net/channel/UCT5A2sV_sB5diMEbdTrLTKw
Will it be in automatic
Yes
Bring this to the US
No but you can have another big suv
who gets a brand new car as a first car? lol
I hated my first car
The shape of this one, esp the front is horrible. Old shape is much better.
Don't know about you people but i personally wouldn't like to see my children in the back of this. Id rather get something bigger with a lot more metal around. It's simple physics. This vs a lorry or a big suv... Iffy if you ask me
The aygo was one of the worst cars i ve ever driven. Its very loud, got plastik erverywhere, feels so fucking unsafe, has no space, is slow af, very scary to drive over 100 kmh (its very unstable, especially at wind), has a turning circle of a bus, uses far too much fuel from 70kmh onwards (for the 69 PS version), looks very bad and the unterior is so minimalistic, cramped, old-fashioned, impractical and just super cheap and shabbily made. And for the automatic version, that really dont wont do change gears, its so fucking terrible.
What do you mean mums don't like posh that is a most ridicouous remark I have ever heard in my life I am 78 & BTW I love my Aygo Semi Auto &I like the look of it give up your job ASA
Did I say Mum's - or did I say Mum's like mine? Please do clarify, so we can have a long conversation about this and I get engagement points. Just FYI this is not a "job" jobs are things that people get paid for. It took two days to film, and around 6 days to edit and I used around £6,000 of kit to produce.
👍
sexist af lol
I am a troll hunter...watch out.
Too sarcastic for me to understand
