You are a GENIUS!! We battled algae bloom all summer here in Michigan (USA) in 2015. We finally got clear water when we had a 3-day cold snap in mid-August. I am sharing this with all of my friends, plus the Pond Place in Milford, Michigan. I almost bought a $2500 UV light filter for our 8,500 gallon pond. Our pond was a pea soup green for most of the summer.
I must admit I watched this video and thought another RUclips load of rubbish, but I thought I'll try it and give it a go.I attached the stocking about 17:00 and the next morning the pond was clear and the stocking was full of green mess, A ++++++ mate really does work.
The advantage to a UV filter is that it kills pathogens. I was surprised too that a 10% water change kind of kicked my pond into gear this year. Your mileage may vary.
my man that has just set me up on my pond to do he same thanks a bunch much appreciated great idea to help ya filter sysem for next to nohing cheers again
I don't own a drill but I am going to purchase one. I had string algae and what I was using is something that I rigged up. It was an extension pole with a women's round Bristle hair brush attached to it.
Hi All Some answers to questions and replies to other comments. The pump size is 2500 litres / I do Have UV 25 watt lamp in filter box / I do have air pump running. For those who seem so question if it works ?? It is a fairly cheap set up , small cheap 2500 pump/some hose /and some 15 denim ankle length stocking. I have noticed that the stocking does collect much more on sunny days and hardly any after a few dull days. Someone also mention why not put it under water , the answer is that you can see when stocking needs changing and it is easy to do on my set up. Best regards Tony
Hey Guy, That's a really cool idea. I'm going to try it as soon as I get what I need. The filter I've rigged up work really great to, but anything to keep the water clear is a plus in my book.
probably using high 2x 30 w UV will help to solve the issue . my pond is 12x4x2.5 ( depth ) feet it works water clean but cant stop those that are sticking on the wall
Though a UV light will help some with Algae.....in the long run it makes it worse because it is also killing off your good bacteria, so that you are fighting a losing battle. I am so glad for fast forward! Whew! Thanks for sharing.
I wish I'd seen this earlier, I've just brought an expensive filter and pump for exactly the same problem. Still, I can always try it out on my other pond.
20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Couldn't you just state "filter the water thru a women' stocking" at the beginning of the video. Your water still looks cloudy.
I think he just wanted to show off his lovely tiered garden, and why not? As for myself, I love a few curves in my garden, squares and rectangles always look too sharp unless you use plants to soften the edges, a little like Art Deco or Nouveau.
Not a bad idea. I had the same problem, I overcame it by pressing felt material (needle punch material which is stronger than the material you are using) between two large plastic baskets (the type one uses for water lily or lotus planting but with larger holes) and placed it at the end of filtration (suspended above pond water level ) in your case below the mouths of fish throwing the filter water in the pond. this is cost effective as it uses only one pump and the felt material can be removed, rinsed and used again for a number of times.
your method is good. you don't need electric pump.Just suck water from pipe. The water will start coming. Then you attache clothing. Try it . First practice wil fresh water. Then try with pond water. Only take care of hygiene during this process. Namh shivay.Nice Idea.
hi at the beginning of this video it shows a large brown coloured fish. can u tell me if this is a silver ghost or koi as i have one exactly like it but its not like my other ghosts
not trying to be a smart butt but with a full sun pond why do you not have air going at all.? a good uv and a lot of air going for 8 hours at night will clean that right up. AIR AIR AIR that's what you need in there. maybe a few floating plants also
I agree every single Pond that has fish in it needs a UV clarifier and lots of aeration. These are essential Design Elements when creating any kind of pond that's going to have fish in it. You really need to aerate that water and the UV clarifier kills off the algae. When you have a lot of oxygen in the water the algae can't grow and fish love oxygenated water. The algae is bad for your fish to because it consumes high amounts of oxygen robbing it from your fish
The water still doesn't look very clear! You need shade and more pond lilies. I have a rain barrel on the downspout of my house and a hose near the top of the barrel that runs into the pond. Every time it rains the overflow goes directly into the pond keeping the water clear.
@@williamwulffleff6829 activated carbon doesn't actually take out algae. So it does help take out a monias another harmful elements. But it's not going to kill off your algae. Barley straw works by creating hydrogen peroxide in the water which oxygenates the water. The real best answer for LG is a UV clarifier. Using light to kill the algae. Dies and gets trapped in the filter. And then your water is back to Crystal Clear. I use my UV clarifier every moment the filter is running. And only turn it off in winter
I think it is easier to use some PH- (minus) to ajust the PH of the water which will prevent and also kill the algae in the basin. It is also less expensive and it is more natural that all those add on structures!
Algae feeds grow better and faster with a high PH of the water, therefore the trick is to lower the PH to cut the food sources. PH - (minus) is use in swimming pool the fix the PH before adding Chlorine thus rending the Chlorine more efficient. You can by PH - in any hardware store oe stores like Wallmart...
If you want to practice this method. Take one bucket watet one meter water pipe. Dip one end in water and suck the water from another end . Namh shivay
Yes it does clog up as you say, but you need to change knee high stocking every day, but they are so cheap it should't be a problem. You can tell when it needs changing as spouts of water come out of sides.
I used a T-shirt zip tied closed and onto the hose, worked like a charm, I used a pillow case as well, removed all the algae and I can see the bottom of the pond again!!
You obviously do not have a pond, my friend. What is ugly is the pea green soup effect that algae bloom creates so that you cannot enjoy your pond and fish.

Awesome, my pond goes green as soon as the weather starts to warm up. I'll be trying this next summer. Thank you!

Yes a water change and a UV filter can really get rid of algae fast. How much water you change depends on how bad your algae bloom is
my man that has just set me up on my pond to do he same thanks a bunch much appreciated great idea to help ya filter sysem for next to nohing cheers again

You can see it turn green. I'm trying this. Tomorrow! 👍

I gotta try this .. the green is driving me crazy. My husband wants to fill it in and plant flowers!
Trust me filling it in is the best idea. You'll throw no end of money at it over the years.
Amazing koi pond. You should really consider adding pond plants to help eliminate algae from starting.
You've got to add a heck of a lot of plants to combat the algae. A UV clarifier Works far better
Simple but effective. I used the same kinda setup during the summer, I've even managed to build a small DIY sieve filter . Beautiful koi btw
Hey Guy,
That's a really cool idea. I'm going to try it as soon as I get what I need. The filter I've rigged up work really great to, but anything to keep the water clear is a plus in my book.
The guy had UV already- obviously wasn't enough so this looks like a good solution to me. Fabulous garden btw!

Good point.
Yeah i didnt see much difference
Tried this and it does work lovely garden.

How will he suck water.... Without a pump?
If your UV isn’t doing the job, then change the tube. Only works well for around six months. If I’m honest the pond if far from clear. 🤷🏼♂️
Hope you know bread has yeast in it and that will help algae growth
My wife does this! It works.
water is always slightly cloudy with koi ,I have DIY filter pump going hell fast but still a bit cloudy now and again
hi at the beginning of this video it shows a large brown coloured fish. can u tell me if this is a silver ghost or koi as i have one exactly like it but its not like my other ghosts
Hi Joanne
It is a bronze Koi
Thanks for the vid. you are a genius.

ALGO-REM wouldve done it in an hour. Quicker than i took to make this video i have a beard now!
I try it , great results cheers

Thanks for the video going to try this for sure.
We don't want to see your yard! We want to know what you did about the green water!!
Yard....lol😂
Unable to find the denim ankle length stocking. wonder if any other type would work
It's a knee high pop sock.
a small bale of barley straw would do the trick by taking the nutrients from thee water!
Rabidavid bales take weeks to take effect. activated carbon in his pantyhose thing be more effective.

Doesn't vegetarian fish eat algae?
Have a ozone installation and crystal clear water every day
That's a pretty good idea man
very cool pond
yep, looks green to me.
why do people not add plecos to thier ponds for the algae and the sides and rocks
What size pump is needed
+tommy green Any
Give it a good pump!
Put in a bunch of plants and it will be crystal clear
Cant even see the bottom how deep is it ?
the problem is my wife don't use stockings hu hu

Anyone that keeps koi and goldfish would know that idea is not a smart one
Awesome idea :-)
why dont you just put that under water

What a carry-on... UV-UV-UV.........
👍
Like putting on a rubber.
You need yourself some @ThePondDigger supplies!
What do you use from Pond digger
Unnecessary long video. Couldnt u do some edit?
That knee high would clog up in a matter of hours, Way to small. Nice pond though.
Yes it does clog up as you say, but you need to change knee high stocking every day, but they are so cheap it should't be a problem. You can tell when it needs changing as spouts of water come out of sides.
Frikking Brilliant!
or add some bristle nosed catfish, no more algae ever :)
You could made your point and showed the filter in 12 minutes less of video. Boring video.
😂😂 best thing here are everyone's comments!!
This is a GREAT IDEA... Just take too long for a DIY :///........ "Hears" how he does it? "Here" is how I "Here" it, LMFAO
Thanks - I'm going to give this a try, I'll report back with results.
