There's only one place in my town that has junk silver, and it's a good thing they are so reasonable with their premiums. I can't find a better deal if I drove for 2 hours each way, and these guys are right down the street! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, online premiums and shipping costs were too much to justify stacking regularly.
👍 Fun video. Now 'adays I buy 90% only at my LCS. No shipping cost or hassles, and I can Hand Pick the coins ! 😊 This is a huge plus in my opinion. I once purchased a role of mercs online and many in the role were crazy "slicks". Also a LCS is usually cheaper than online, but not always. But if you have shipping and tax, that usually kills any online "good deal" you may find.
I love it when the Lcs lets me pick the coins I want from the 90 percent. I try to be respectful and not take a long time so I end up with some nice ones but a lot of 1964 au. LOVE MERCS
I had some really junk gold I had found that I didn't really care for I just wanted 90% so I basically traded gold for silver And get really good deals now At my lcs. He gives me my pick of 3 sometimes 4 halfs for 20. Gave me 18 dimes for 15 once.that was a weeks ago
I recently watched a local online auction selling mercury dimes and now using your info I see that the folks whom won the auctions actually lost in the end using that formula and they paid an 18% buyers premium plus shipping! Something to consider in those auctions! Thanks for the video! 👍
you have been watching my auction buying habits haven't you 🤣. I wish I was kidding but I get caught up in the auction and don't think about the premium even though I have been doing business with them for 10 years.
I’m new to stacking! Your “call” videos are soooo helpful 😫 I feel like I’m learning proper etiquette by watching you engage with coin dealers 🤓 Thank you so much! Amazing idea for content 🙌🏾
Very fortunate day for me as I bought 117 quarters from my neighbor at 18.12 per dollar face! That was spot. I called two coin shops both 100 miles away and they were paying spot for 90% so that's what I paid. I'm in northern California.
That's a great recommendation buy I agree with also. Spot is up close to $26 USD/Troy oz and $19.39 per $1.00 90 percent silver coins is reasonable. Some dealers sell at $20 per $1.00 silver coins to offset a higher buying price closer to spot. Check when selling but don't pay more than $19.50-20 per $1 in silver coinage.
I watch a lot of coin channels and I have to tell you, yours is the BEST. You explain things in plain language and cover topics I need to learn more about. I also love the charts and when you call for prices! Thanks again.
Seeker, good info. I do a monthly silver price check video and have noticed the same thing. Online dealers are insanely high with their premiums. I always tell my viewers to call coin shops, local or not. Even if they have to ship it to you, it will still be cheaper than the online dealers in almost all cases. Keep on stackin bud.
If you must buy silver right now, this is one of those times where it is best to go against current market trends. The best time to buy junk silver was before the price spike when you could get it cheap in comparison to other forms of silver. Now that more ordinary people have suddenly become buyers, the situation has changed. You can buy junk silver if you want and pay a $5-6 premium for each $1 face of 0.715 oz, depending on where you go and if you buy in bulk. Or you can buy generic silver rounds for $5.99 each over spot for an entire ounce of silver. You are in essence paying much the same premium but for a significantly different amount of silver.
Agreed! I went to a LCS for the first time and asked "What's the best way to spend $100 on silver?" He said junk. I left with $3.35 face in halves, quarters and dime. Went home, did the math and wish I asked for rounds instead. Since my quantity of junk silver is so minimal, I don't mind but next time, I'll stick with rounds. Stacking since 2012.
I'm a newbie stacker and have soooo much to learn! Thanks much for this info...very helpful! In fact, I was just wondering the best place to buy "junk" silver - retailers online, eBay, or a local coin shop (which I have yet to find). Anyway...your video helped point me in the direction I'm going to try first - shopping local! 😉 Thanks much! 💰🙏💰
Coin shows are a great place to find deals on 90%. Was at the moon coin show in MN last weekend. Found bags of silver dimes and quarters at 18x! Found alot of 90% at 19x and 20x as well at the show.
I've been a subscriber for a while now, and really appreciate your content. I've got a fair amount of 90% as well as. 999 silver. With the high premiums, my focus has been on my type set. Bottom line, if it's coins I like it.🙂🙃
I just bought $73 face value of 90% silver halves for 21x face value at my LCS yesterday…mostly Franklin halves $50 FV, then $16 FV Walkers, and $7 FV Kennedy’s…they seem to always have mostly Franklin closely followed by Kennedy’s (my favorite) then Walkers very few…but this time they had mostly Franklins, followed by walkers very close, then few Kennedy’s…all of the walkers were full dates but some barely…so I picked them though and found the best and left the rest…I like Kennedy’s because they are usually AU and have the least wear…so most of my halves are Kennedy’s and Franklins…I only have a few rolls of walkers but they are good ones.
Good video. Just my personal opinion. Best way to stack silver is to buy rounds when on sale. Some of these premiums on junk silver are higher than premiums on rounds of pure silver.
@@kevintheweedman That's a good price as long as they weren't really wore out. Many times the Merc's you get for the same price as Rosy's are from the 20's and 30's, but are AG's. I don't want them that worn.
I have found the cheapest "junk" silver to purchase online has been the old state quarter silver proof sets. The mint officially began producing the stand-alone silver quarter sets back in 2004, and despite the collapse in collector value, they still have the intrinsic value, and I've been able to purchase them from e-bay sellers, in most cases, cheaper than pre-65 quarters.
Agree. Very underrated 90%. Scored nearly 20 pf these silver proofs at the last coin show for 20x face. Why not have uncirculated proofs for the same price as worn pre 65
I think the silver proof state quarter sets are a great way to stack silver actually, I was buying lots of them a few years back, but prices have gone up quite a bit since then so it is harder to find deals. Once in while you can get them for $25-29 a set including shipping. Even though they don't have much collector value because they made so many of them, they still do have some in addition to the metal value.
@@JerryWick I agree, many stackers don't even think about these coins. I would rather pay a little more and have a coin that is in beautiful proof condition which does carry some collector value along with the silver value.
My LCs's charge what JM & SD Bullion charge-they look them up on the spot-or they charge more. For everything. So LCS's are a no go for me. I've had better luck with local pawn shops. Half dollars at 20x face lately. Would have been just OK a couple months ago. Sounds great now!
It's the opposite here. Heck, Pawn American wants $32 plus tax for generic buffalo. Their 90% was 25-28x. LCS is much better here. Yours sounds $#!++y.
I started buying rolls of silver quarters back in 2017 and bought many rolls for near face value - some below face - and got 10% back from eBay. Oh, those were the days! I bought at least 1 roll per month for years, but now I wish I had bought more!
I'm in Canada, so trying to translate and convert is a bit time consuming but still valuable information. Today I picked up 40 Canadian silver dollars (80% silver) at spot price from a great friend who owns an antique shop. He still has a box full of dimes and quarters that I'll try to pick away at, if he hasn't sold all of them by then. Premiums up here for coins are quite high.
I'm buying 80% Canadian junk right now because the premiums are much lower than the U.S. junk. I was in my LCS today and bought 15 Canadian halves, but I plan to go back because he has a box full of 80% Canadian dimes that are only .11 over melt.
Love the channel, just had a comment on a last video saying you don’t make out as good with silver eagles. My lcs buys eagles at 9 dollars over right now, sells at 11.50. I have silver eagles, bars and rounds and the silver eagles is the best return by far. I’m positive an extra 3,000 on a box of 500 silver eagles vs 500 rounds. They buy rounds at 3 over and eagles at 9 over
Just think about it. There will come a day, and less than ten years from now, when even these prices will seem cheap. I would hold up on buying now though. There will most likely be another pullback or two before the price goes to the moon.
Just got my first Stacker Box from Coolstax and all I can say is WOW!!! What a box. I highly recommend the Coolstax stackers to anyone wanting to add to their stack and like the surprise element of unboxing a mystery type box.!!! Thanks Seeker!
I've purchased about $7K of 90% since September of 2021. Exclusively on online estate sale websites. The prices have gotten ridiculous! Not only the raw bidding price but also the 21.9% for Buyers premium and sales tax.
Newbie here, and looking for feedback. I went to a coin shop to inquiry about 90% silver, and they only sold it at a minimum face value increments of $500 at a 22x price. That seemed more like a wholesale requirement ($11k) minimum purchase… What’s you’re experience?
Strange that LCS is cheaper than online for junk. While my LCS is more expensive than online for other bullion. Have been stacking 10 oz bars and rounds so far. Once I reach a certain goal soon, I'm shifting to 90% and am doing my research now. Thanks
Never saw your show til last week…, love it! Can you please do a show on 1000oz bars? What happens when it hits the fan, what’s the industrial impact vs currency or investment? Is there an advantage in a moon market?
Seeker, why does it seem like regionals of the US have such large premium difference. When I talk with ppl in forums or chats on stream, I have heard people buying for 18x face all the way up to 24x.
Silver Seeker your Junk Silver Math section sounded like I was watching Antiques Roadshow when the messages pops up on screen LOL. Great video my friend!
Hi - where do we see that number like 24 or 25 that's begin used? The websites I'm looking at only show the sale price. Your math seems to indicate you need to know that number first to do the rest of the equations. Thanks for the education!
I found an ebay seller that is $2.63 over spot for $100 face value. But the listing says the coins are damaged, bent , and have holes. Is this worth buying?
I'm buying .99 round's for either $30 or $31 each. So am I correct in saying that I'm getting a better deal buying those than I am junk silver? If I'm calculating junk silver correctly, almost no one is selling at $5 or $6 over spot. Thanks in advance.
@@tonyprice2256 yes on new and used britannias (VAT value added tax 20%) From a dealer. Used is a little cheaper. Silver eagles just checked are $49US! Maples are $44 (import tax) so i own none of those. New Britannias are £6 cheaper in the US! Although a 25 coin tube works out cheaper at $33 each. I buy my British junk silver on ebay UK. Pre-1920 are 92.5, 1921-1946 50%. That 92.5 is over 100 years old now so probably get a collector premium in the future. Ebay is just whatever you pay plus shipping. Gold is better premiums here. I paid £390 for an 1860 sovereign. Buy back is around £370. Stackings not a thing here. Yet anyway.
I think 22 is a great price. I’d stack the 90 percent until your bag was big enough in your eyes. The rounds for 30 isn’t bad either but I’d buy more 90 percent. Great question @Goerge
Also take into account your local laws. My state charges 7% sales tax on rounds (bullion), none on us currency. Also if you sell to a dealer there is a form that gets filled out, ID and thumbprint and sent to sheriff on rounds (bullion), nothing on us currency.
I like junk silver but with premiums so high it's mostly just for fun not really an investment at this point I know a coin dealer who sells quarters for 4.75 really beat up but a good investment just go to a coin dealer say "hey I want 5 bucks in silver quarters but really beat up rim damaged coins, ya got some?" if you get lucky they might give it to you for as low as melt, 18 times face
I went to my coin shop the other day, bought what looked liked a 12 , 1 Oz silver coin set, and only some of them say 999, the rest im guessing and hoping are 925
It's funny. I figure most of us long time stackers, myself is no exception, started out using APMEX. I almost never use them anymore, unless they have something I REALLY want (which they tend to when everybody else is out). Am I the only one that uses S.D.. Hero, even J.M. over APMEX these days whenever possible? I bet I'm not.
@@paulrichards383 Yes! Haha I love my vender. I cherry pick high grades, but recently, since I've been getting such a deal, I just get all the silver I can. He's a great dude. I paid 20x face last time I went
I love my local coin shop! They are selling all 90% percent for 21 times $1 dollar face. If you buy the Barber dimes, quarters, and halves they are selling it for 22 times $1 dollar face.
@@jameycollins725 Wow, so you can pick up Barber halves for $12? That would be great, especially if they were close to Good grade, but I'm guessing they are probably closer to AG, which isn't that bad either.
@@jzak5723 they are definitely all pretty much good. The only thing is I have to wait for a few hours so they can go through them first. There is usually not that much to pick through-naybe around $20 face total in Barber dimes, quarters, and halves (all the same price)
I’m new at collecting coins and war tokens and I mostly purchase Benjamin Franklin and Walking Liberty 90% silver coins. I’m still learning but if I’m correct those two coins I just mentioned has the actual coin value depending on the year and shape/grade and it has the actual silver value. So it mostly has two values you can fall back on.
Be careful with that calculation. To me, a coin either has "melt" value or it has numismatic value. Not both, and you certainly cannot add them together. If you go a coin show (recommended) you will see that for a 50's-60's quarter to have numismatic value it has to be in astronomically good condition. To me, if you are going to place such a quarter album or display container, it doesn't have melt value. And if you are going to melt it, it doesn't have numis value.

Great video. Very informative. Thank you for sharing Silver Seeker.
I found an ebay seller that is $2.63 over spot for $100 face value. But the listing says the coins are damaged, bent , and have holes. Is this worth buying?
I wouldn't personally... without knowing the total weight at least.
I'm buying .99 round's for either $30 or $31 each. So am I correct in saying that I'm getting a better deal buying those than I am junk silver? If I'm calculating junk silver correctly, almost no one is selling at $5 or $6 over spot. Thanks in advance.
My lcs just went up to $6.50 per Oz premium. More than rounds but still a good deal... and 40% lower than ase.
SD has it at about 23x for any quantity as of march 23 731 pm PST
In the UK I've been getting .925 coins mostly at spot.
Nice. But do they tax you there?
Yet anyway.
My LCS sells junk silver for 22x face, but silver rounds for $30. Which would be the better option?
I think 22 is a great price. I’d stack the 90 percent until your bag was big enough in your eyes. The rounds for 30 isn’t bad either but I’d buy more 90 percent. Great question @Goerge
its about the same preice 22x1.4=30.8
Depends on the rounds. Basic generic buffalo... go 90%.
Rare rounds or something interesting, get the 1 oz.
Nothing to stop you from getting both.
Also take into account your local laws. My state charges 7% sales tax on rounds (bullion), none on us currency. Also if you sell to a dealer there is a form that gets filled out, ID and thumbprint and sent to sheriff on rounds (bullion), nothing on us currency.
So glad I bought my hoard of dimes, quarters, halves when it was less than $11 an ounce...........whew!!!!
Some solid info, been starting to stack and swap a lot more lately. Seems private sale is anywhere from 20x to 26x. But plenty of deals to be found
I would imagine that the premiums online are significantly higher. I can’t fathom the cost just for shipping alone
I went to my coin shop the other day, bought what looked liked a 12 , 1 Oz silver coin set, and only some of them say 999, the rest im guessing and hoping are 925
Do people melt the coins down and make bulllion?
These premiums! For decades, that stuff was barely over spot.... It was called "junk" because it was being sold barely over melt.....
The question I have is where are these companies sourcing all of their silver coins?
I only buy at 20x and below. It worked out for me just fine
LCS ?
@@jefflwadfordjr.1128 No?? There's a local vender that sells me 20x and private online retailers that do 18-19x
Fantastic price. I wish I could get it for that price. Iam used to paying 22 to 24 times face
Do you get to cherry pick?
I would be surprised if yes.
I don't like getting a bag. I want to pick my dates and grades.
@@paulrichards383 Yes! Haha I love my vender. I cherry pick high grades, but recently, since I've been getting such a deal, I just get all the silver I can. He's a great dude. I paid 20x face last time I went
Interesting, THANX 🐥
I love my local coin shop! They are selling all 90% percent for 21 times $1 dollar face. If you buy the Barber dimes, quarters, and halves they are selling it for 22 times $1 dollar face.
That's a good price on the Barbers if they aren't just slicks.
@@jzak5723 it is! I can always pick out the nice ones! They always just charge me $1 more than the 90% percent junk silver for the barbers
@@jameycollins725
Wow, so you can pick up Barber halves for $12?
My LCS/Jewelry store sales there constitutional silver for $2 over spot per ounce ($1.40 face)
Can I get it to Zuid Africa ?????
