  • Six Valuable Key Date Mercury Dimes That Every Silver Stacker Should Know ► • Six Valuable Key Date ...
    In this video I go over 4 reasons why I believe silver dimes are an essential part of anyone's silver stack.
    Known by some as junk silver dimes, and by others as constitutional silver dimes, these are really beautiful coins. One of the best things about silver dimes is the limited supply, as they have not been minted since 1964.
    Some other characteristics that make them essential to your stack are their divisiblity, recognizability, and their legal tender status.
    Do you love stacking silver dimes? Let me know in the comments below!

    I spend $75-$100 every two weeks for Constitutional silver at my LCS, with Mercury dimes and Franklin halves occupying my top two selections. Currently, the Mercs are running me $2 per and the Franklins are $10 at my LCS in the Midwest.

      Well-that’s what it costs at my LCS and fortunately, my education and current profession afford me a comfortable income and lifestyle. It could be that you have a higher cost of living than I do based on geography or that your mortgage or car payment or monthly bills are higher than mine.
      In any event, I know you mean well, but I always wonder what prompts people on anonymous comment boards to critique other people’s spending habits.
      I don’t want to do a back and forth, so I’ll just leave it at that.

      You can easily resell Franklin's for $14 each & 2.50 per mercury dimes. Antique shops sell for 3.50 each before premiums gone up on junk. That's good at now days prices. I always try to get mercs at 115 a roll or under and under 2.50 each!

    I lined up with a small bit of silver during the Hunt’s attempt at cornering the market. It reminds me of the GameStop stock hype. My brother made $80,000 as he bought about a week before it skyrocketed. He only chose it because his teen loved the store. He’d have made more except they got locked out by the manipulators.

    I know people like Mercury dimes because the design is nice but really Roosevelts generally weigh more because they are not as worn. May not make a difference now, when silver price is cheap. But might make a difference if silver price ever gies up.

    • @mysterybuyer3738

      But I feel that the collectible value of the mercury dimes will be reflected in the premium for them and that will more than make up for lost weight.

      It's true that some dealers charge more for Merc's, but the reality is that any Merc you get as junk silver is going to be well worn unless it is from the 30's and 40's, and likely there won't be any better dates included, so in my opinion, Roosevelt's are the best dimes to buy because they generally have more of their silver still intact. But if someone wants to stack Merc's, I would hand pick the very best ones which will likely be the later ones, and not buy the slick earlier ones.

    Dimes are the best fractional Silver you can get. On average 2.2 gr of Silver...greatest barter currency ever!! Remember that Constitutional Silver is still being melted by the ton. Many dealers get top price for 'Junk" silver. So they bag it, weigh it and sell it one shot paid on the spot!!! Who's going to tell us when the numbers are low? Is there a repository where we keep track of how many dimes, quarters, and half dollars are left? No. So we'll wake up one day and there just won't be any available. Morgans are already fetching top dollars for run of the mill grades. Sooooo........LOL Great video my good man!!!! Cheers

    Lately the premiums on “Constitutional Silver” has been quite high as you mentioned in the video, but that only goes to say that the demand for “Constitutional Silver” coupled with the shortage in “Constitutional Silver” plays into the fact that a lot people are waking up and preparing themselves for an “Economic Day Of Reckoning” that will appear somewhere in the horizons. I hope our the U.S. government comes to its senses and prevents it, but I don’t rely on such foolish hope. I rather have physical “Silver” whether it is “Constitutional” or not than not have it and be up S--t’s Creek without a paddle and be at the whims and ferocity of a coming storm unprepared like most Americans and other people globally are. We “Silver Stackers” are small group in numbers and percentages, that much I do know.

    Your recommendation to stack junk a year ago held up well for those who heeded it. I have a question for anyone here. If you had a chance to buy clean silver at spot, would you? I mean if it was unsuitable to sell at a coin shop because they wouldn't get any takers at retail. Because my LCS just took in some odd 20 g silver rounds with a past president on it and I asked him what he was going to do with it and he said they would go straight into scrap. Now I understand these get sent to a salvage buyer for some fraction below spot and eventually end up in the hands of a refiner. But if there is a good possibility of silver increasing significantly in value over the next 3 years it seems that holding this would still make some sense.

    What price is a good price to buy 90% Mercury silver dimes when the spot price is $23.41?
    Also, what company do you recommend to buy them from?
    Thank you.

    • @roysakic5475
      @roysakic5475 2 года назад +2

      This is what I do to calculate if 90% is better than 1 oz silver rounds. For 90%, take 23.41/10=2.34. Keep in mind that around 14 dimes is roughly about an oz of silver. So take 2.34x14=32.40 for an oz of silver if you buy dimes. Compare $32.40 vs $27.50 (approximate price for a generic 1 oz silver round) and you can see that it would be better to buy a 1oz silver round over 1 oz of silver dimes. I suggest buying $1 face value of dimes below $21.07 (23.41x.90), that would be a good deal. However, from what I have seen recently at Local Coin Stores, 90% is quite expensive. Online is too expensive for dimes as well. I suggest buying 1 oz silver rounds for now.

    I recall the days when 90% was a buck over spot and indeed, most bars were in the area of $1-$2 over spot. With junk silver now trading at a solid $4 > 7 > $9 over spot, it doesn't make much sense (to me) to be buying junk. I'm lucky I have my base supply of junk coins and I am not really buying silver today. If I were, I would be buying .999 generic over junk if the premiums are the same. I think dealers are simply riding the perceived demand and the firming up of "price dips". I think dealers are not in any big hurry to unload what they buy these days, very near spot, and they are OK just waiting around for $5 over spot instead of being in a hurry to sell at $1 over spot. Too bad, premiums were a buck over spot for 15 years or so.

    I personally don't care of the shortage or the limited supply of 90% silver because they charge a heavy premium even when prices of silver is going down. To me thats not good business. In addition I prefer to buy .999 silver bar than silver because of the bullion versus collecting

    • @SmartSilverStacker
      @SmartSilverStacker  2 года назад +4

      The limited supply is the reason those premiums are increasing. And even though premiums have risen, I believe they will rise further going forward.

    This is what I do to calculate if 90% is better than 1 oz silver rounds. For 90%, take $23.41(current spot price) and divide by 10 which equals $2.34 per each dime.

    I disagree with alot of this video and there were some good points brought up, but over all disagree with alot of this video. That all said, i get really tired of hearing junk silver is widely reconized as silver. You see silver, most stackers see silver. I dare you to walk into the closest gas station or grocery store , take 2 coins up to the counter and see if the average cashier reconizes the silver vs the clad. And you could load the deck bring in a super worn corn and and a brand new shiny one and they might get it. Better yet just walk up to the counter with a sjlver dime and ask if they see anything different about that coin
    You get my point. Also once you get into say kennedy halfs and i realize that is beyond the scope of this video. But kennedy half dollars would be really confusing to transact with

      I hear and respect what you're saying, but consider that if things get SHTF bad, people will necessarily figure things out QUICK. And as soon as possible,they'll try to hold onto their familiar silver currency-coins and start bartering with lesser-valued items--to preserve as much of that undisputed measure of wealth/value as possible
      Just in case things get even worse. Does that make sense? Cashiers will GLADLY accept those coins--at face value and substitute them for theor worthless clad coins or bills
      Mom and pop C-store owners will be among the first to accept silver, knowing they can convert to other needed goods and services
