Nice clean chain blocks there, along with decent chains, and slings that are used, but not in any way abused. Your fellow millwrights are doing a sterling job there Chris, all working to make sure that the next century of this plant's life will be as good as the first.
As much as they terrify me, you're right. I'm honored to be working beside them. But I'm still not walking under that.

Why is there so much space between the blade tips and the turbine walls? You think that would make it much less efficient.
I think the blades sit in a smaller hole in the bottom.
There isn't. The room it's in right now is much wider than the hole it drops down in to.

Why aren´t the guys down in the turbine hole wearing a hard hat? Just curious, cause here in Norway this kind of work would be a no go without all kinds of safety stuff in place;)

I asked them once, and they threw a wrench at me. At this point I'm just happy they're sober and wearing pants.
Well, hard hat is another thing that can cause an accident, by getting in the wrong place. they are all on the same plane, and if anything is to fall on them from a chain and backup chain failing, the hard hat will not help at all.
Hard hat is fine if a brick falls on it, or a hammer, but here the thing that will fall is multiple tons, and not going to be stopped by a plastic hat.

I'll be the first to say it I guess... Wrapping the chain isn't good. Even a minimal amount of damage to them could cause problems if you pull the chain all the way in to the fall. Just get some more slings, choke them to the piece and go straight to the hook. I know a place that ships if you're interested in some good gear!

The Intro is 10sec actually. The day sponsor card was 20. That guy donated $25 a month, every month (and has for years) and sincerely pays a substantial part of my paycheck. I think he's earned it. If you don't agree, that's totally cool. Write me a script that thanks the day sponsor and does a call to action letting people know that there's other ways to get involved. Show me a better way and I'm all ears. But until you can demonstrate better, you don't have any compelling argument. Don't bitch, teach. I'm eager to learn and happy to listen.
