    Please explain: Why does the clock add seconds towards the end? Thank you.

      The clock adds some seconds on every move. You tend to notice it more at the end when time is running low.

      in France we call it "the differential"
      it can change depending on the part played, apparently here it is set to +2 seconds.

      @@ch2o2 Sorry, I didn't quite understand, but when the time runs out the game stops (you know).
      Adding seconds at the end of each move allows for a more dynamic game, especially at the end of the game/final. It adds spice to the game .Time control in chess is very important.
