I love the smaller size of the earlier F1 cars. So pure.
Need to hear the previous iterations of the McLaren with the incredible sounding Honda V10 & V 12 engines. Just utterly intoxicating along with the Ferrari v10’s & V 12’s of course!😃
That small size is really what allowed the drivers to huck it around the track and do tons of side by side racing on any track
@@Real28 Unfortunately it's also what allowed them to be seriously injured more easily. Even the late 2010's turbo hybrid cars weren't quite safe enough in a crash. We'll need a breakthrough in material science before we can safely scale the size back down again. More thirsty V10/V12 engines also require fuel stops and that had associated safety risks as well. The other alternative really is to redesign the tracks to be much slower, or make the cars slower.

Heh funny thing, the Mclaren seb drove is practically a playstation with its own set of computers. Its more technologically advanced than today's cars cause of its adaptive suspension

yup, jose rimeraz said so too in his memoir "in term of driving skill, he considers 93 to be senna's best season because they did not have the fastest car, yet he still won 5 races!"

@@tiax1592 what a tragedy that he chose the fastest car for the next season. I was 12 not really interested in motor sports until I saw Senna highlights in a 90er tv with 3 channels
1993 was of my favorite seasons as well. Many great races watching Senna do great things... of course Donnington first lap and race win, Canadian GP gridded 8th working his way through the field to second (unfortunately the car broke down as he was behind Prost ), Brazil.... he made Prost sweat while he led the points through most of the season while Prost drive the far superior Williams that Mansell won the title in the year prior. Senna walked on water that year demonstrating outstanding mettle and determination and incredible skills.
@@tiax1592I disagree only because the cars of 93 had all sorts of driver aids which made them easier to drive. Prost said he didn’t like driving the Williams because it more or less drove itself

aww ! that sound !! ! .... brought back memories of trackside at Becketts watching Senna go past ....a hot day and the only car and driver to keep the dominant Mansell/Williams honest .. , then Mansell stopped to pick him up at the end as Senna had run dry on fuel ... The sound and smell of those cars then ... exotic, fearsome, awesome, beautiful !!!! Thank you Seb for organising the homage 💛🏁

@@kls2020 I don't know what you mean by this. I was watching F1 in the 90s and as beautiful as those cars were the racing was often shit. You'd go entire races and see maybe three overtakes.
Because it will make F1 today seem ridiculous. They don't want to detract from the brand! But in all fairness, Senna would have been extremely proud of the incredible safety these days. Otherwise, F1 pales in comparison to what it was. The car does half the work now. I guess you can't have it all.

I miss the sound, but its not quite the same without Senna's helmet.
At first thought it was a Stig type helmet, but upon closer inspection, it's half Ratzenberger, half Senna's helmet. I think only Bruno Senna should wear Senna's actual helmet design when driving this car.

I've noticed some of the cars were not revving to the maximum rpm. That sound would make the current cars sound like leaf blowers.

ah, that iconic livery and that sound and at imola.... brings tears to my eyes! only if senna had not left mcleran, he may well still be alive today. (1994's Williams was shit in term of aerodynamic balance .... newey him said so himself!)

I used to have a piece of a Jag too when one had a suspension failure on turn 5?? and slammed into the wall. At least I think it was the Jag, I think the carbon fibre piece I had had some green on it. A shower of carbon streamed over the fence and couldn't turn away. The rear wing end plate plonked on the ground in front of me!

@@alejobuc50 Não, esse carro é de 91 ou 93, então, se estiver original, em 91 Honda V12 e em 93 um Ford Coswort V8, nessa época o menor e mais eficiente motor, era o Renault V10 da Willians.

The 1993 McLaren never had a manual gear box. It was a fully Paddle Shift semi auto with traction control and active suspension
