BUYING A £60,000 LUXURY CAR FOR £1500!

- Today is about buying a high mileage 2006 BMW E65 730d which I got from BCA car auction over in Birmingham. I could not believe the outstanding drive and overall interior condition on such an old and used car. It really is crazy to see how much used luxury car prices fall here in the UK. I don’t think you will find a better example of a reliable, cheap luxury car at this price point.
Being in the car trade, you do come across some great cars such as this BMW, and these gems make you want to keep it rather than sell on for profit.
Let me know what your thoughts are on old luxury cars or if you think there’s something better for the money?
I had a 7 series back then as well as an S class and an A8. The S class did 350,000 miles with zero problems, just basic services. The A8 had a couple of very small issues over 200,000 miles. The 7 series was terrible from the start. Even the switches on the dash would fall off. Multiple electrical problems as well as mechanical...i didn't keep it long.
The price of service and repairs don’t depreciate with the car. A front and rear brake service will cost what you paid for the car. When the coolant pipe under the intake manifold starts leaking, will cost over twice what you paid for the car. Own it long enough, and it will deplete your bank account and your retirement. BMWs from the 2000’s are nightmares to own. Earlier BMWs still a lot of metal engine parts, and weren’t as fragile as a result.
Exactly mate..... A major service and bodywork issues on this will turn you white when you'd get the bill......😮😮 It's probably worth a lot more being broken up for spare parts
Those you mentioned are easily done by a DIYer. Done it myself.
The worrying part is timing chain replacement
Car of that age you just service it your self
I was thinking the same. Probably better if you're a mechanic or have access to one who is happy to charge you mate's rates.

Well, oil and filter changes, spark plugs and, for the mechanically inclined (which I am not), maybe brake disks and pads.
But 7 series BMWs are complex beasts and some stuff is pretty inaccessible, especially with the bigger engines...
You said it yourself. The minute anything (other than 'consumables') fails, it'll cost more than the purchase price to repair.
an ACCURATE description of the car is "very good for the age" , when you start throwing sentence`s around like it`s "pretty immaculate", that`s when your raising too many expectations for a potential buyer, you have to REMEMBER, the word (immaculate) mean`s absolutely perfect, without a mark, blemish or scratch anywhere, this carr is "very good for it`s age"....here endeth the lesson my son......................😁😁
Agreed. I saw an ad the other day and it said the interior looks unused on a 150K mile car and granted it looked in decent condition but the leather was worn, the steering wheel had wear and the carpet had dirt on it and like you said from a used car you wouldn't be bothered about wear and tear but once you say looks unused it makes you go over it and pick up bits you wouldn't normally be bothered about.
Had a 745i years ago gorgeous big bus but problems . Oil leaks every were brakes recall just couldnt know what was next . But loved it like driving on a cloud.
I had 2 E65s. 1st one 2004 730i, bought in 2008 added 200,000 miles. Never left me stranded, but got a gearbox issue towards the end. 2nd one 2008 740i (V8). Had all 3 known issues, valve stem oil seals, top end water leak, huge oil leak from seal behind alternator. Still did another 200,000 miles, but it cost me. Both were really well built, individual, solid (apart from the V8).
"Hi, I've got a e65 and everything works"
Yeah, and my name's Father Salami
7 series the ultimate money pit
Agreed but holy moly is there a better car to drive than the seven series 🤷♂️
Yep, and the Range Rover/Jaguar...thats the ultimate black hole:))
Had 3/4. Just have to leave all these now. Last owner can have left with engine woes. Min suspension or other issues. So good news get one that’s honest. No major Faults
Good find. Keep it until you want something else. You won’t lose money on it as it’s well cared for .
Engine gearbox will be fine as long as serviced but can’t say electric gremlins won’t bother u though.
Electric gremlins always worry me 😂
155'000 miles ain't bad,8611 miles a year, I'm running a 205 Volvo S60 d5 I bought with 208'000 on the clock,
Enjoyable video and very tempting for any car nut, just avoid main dealers for any servicing or repairs, find a good local specialist and your laughing.
Well said!
You're better off with an e39 5 series. far better built.
I like this model of bmw from day one. Sadly they were out of my price range when I was doing 200 motorway miles per day. Not usable for shopping and visiting the hospital car parks now ......
Lovely car helps been an SE spec classy ..... might trade in my 635d 😅
For what you paid, and your reasoning, it makes good sense to keep it. 2 weeks of rental in something similar from today's catalogue would be about the same cost in any case.
Everyone wants newish suv's these days not large saloons . Hence bargain price .
Really like everyone's got the money for a newish suv. Pathetic comment.
@@GarySpears-sl2mrhe’s got a point, people just buy on expensive finance these days for newish cars. They just look at it as a monthly expense.
I quite agree with you.most of them aren’t big cars just look bigger as higher up
I wanted BMW 7 series 2011-2012 40d as 3th car just to tow my heavy caravan but price was higher then X5 with same equipment and engine ,so i bought X5.So at least in my country is not like that
Dealer insurance makes all cars cheap to own, oh don't forget the price for parts when needed, oh yea you will have a discount for parts as a car dealer. And not forgetting the road tax and fuel cost.
Oh don’t forget the price for when customers complain about a car over the most minor thing, oh yea you don’t see that
The joys of being a second hand car dealer.@@yunneqfeeds4152
Good, in detail content! And as an Asian lad, you definitely don't sound nothing like a Bradford/Brumie which isn't a bad thing lol
😂
Great vid and just subscribed
Love luxury barges but feel the Jag Xj is the better option, as it drives more sporty and gives a more premium feel. But no doubt sub £2k it’s a deal.
Lovely car but it's running costs
More times than not more mature people own 7 series which is why you see these older gems still with loads of life they have t been messed with raced etc
Unless I were a car mechanic with quality tools and skills + some free time, there's no way in heck I'd buy this car.
Insurance will be high and car tax even higher...
This car in Maceonia is about £5000. The salary is around £500 per month.
Big difference!
How my friend got a free 7 series , bought one of these for £2500 did approx 14 weddings over 18months and made more than he paid for the car hasn’t done one since and now has a free 7 series
Bro had one . Was junk after 5 years. Bonnet cable broke..took dealers hours to get into. Heaps oil leaks, electric issues.
I’m only a few months in and 3000 miles driven, still all good so far, parking sensors have moments but other than that all good.
Wow what a gem still looks good now and its nearly 20 years old 👍
Sure is!
A gem until you have to pay 500 for a piece of plastic.
@@fungames24Well straight off get rid of all excess plastic that covers the engine and will disrupt cooling .A tip from Scottys show .
@@anthonydowling3356 A plastic pumper will cost 10k maybe. What does scotty say about that? Endless money pit?
@@fungames24He says buy one at a scrap yard .ie second hand bumper from a breakers .
So some people comment that an eighteen year old luxury car will have high maintenance and repair costs - talk about stating the effing obvious !
😂😂😂
Truly astonishing value for money! 😃
It really is!
Wonderful cars....one problem.its diesel... Stinky..... petrol good...very expensive.
Crazy bargain for 1500
I've spent more on a weekend away on the sesh!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
......yeah so have I, 30 years ago plus when £1500 actually bought you something.
It was cheap for a reason, you'll have nothing but electrical issues with that e65, I had an F01 for 5 years and it was faultless but only because BMW learnt the lessons from the terrible e65.
You fallen in love with it so have I. So basically you have shown us we don’t need an suv just get a bigger car. I currently own from new 09 bmw 5 touring forgot to spec it with heated seats but I did spec it with acc
Ps. A really great review. Ur gonna get many subscribers for sure
Thanks for the kind words
Budget to buy, definitely not budget to keep on the road 😂
Let’s see how it goes, might have to make a part 2 if so 😂
There’s someone at my work with a silver 7 series, same shape as yours, but it’s got LD on the back. When I searched on this car app I’ve got, it said it’s a limousine version. What’s the difference, just abit longer, with a few more toys inside I guess? I don’t even know who owns it, I work for a big company, and just see it in the carpark everyday. When I was being nosey I saw the last MOT said “oil leak”. Typical! That’s the only reason I checked the MOT, I had a little wager with myself on the chances of it having some kind of leak 😂 lovely looking motors though
I’m looking for a a class uleaze compliant……2-3k budget
😂its only a 60k car when its brand new. Big used cars have always been heavy depreciators
730d no difference to run that s 530d bulletproof
What camera do u use? And what mount? I've got s Road trip coming up and want to film it.
This was filmed on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, and a generic mount from Amazon.
Dont say touch wood akhi
I'd buy it off you mate.
If I sell I’ll let you know pal!
£1500 including fees?
He did say Just under £1800 Including Fees!
Inc fees 1859
@@AmarMahmood-t9n he did say £1500 in he’s description 😂 I didn’t watch the full video
Ain't nothing budget about this for 1500 quid...it's a money pit.
Where is your base
Hell Nice video.
What do you think of toyota yaris 2012-2020 1.5 automatic ? Is it reliable ? Is there any issue with the cvt gearbox ? The 1.5 engine is it chain driven or it has a timing belt ?
Any Toyota is good .
😂 It's a money pit. Don't worry you will confess soon. Now it looks all roses 🌹
Run it for a while and get back to us.
Good shout

Are you being paid by BCA? I don't know many traders who would put a BCA logo on their thumbnail, they are thieves and con artists.
I put them in the thumbnail so people know I’m a car trader who buys from BCA. I wish I was paid by them 😂
continental tyres are the worst lol
