Update: New story video out on Baldur's Gate 3: ruclips.net/video/7DZkqnJ5H_I/видео.html In any case, hope you all enjoy this video, it really was a crazy effort and collaboration with Krazyflipz to put together. Have a great day, and as always, thanks for watching!
I know people like to rag on the forest barely having any spoken dialogue but the way eric shows his emotion just by his hand movements and his desperate rush to plug his son into the machine is so well done. The forest is incredible when it comes to environmental storytelling and showing silent emotions, and I hope that they can carry that over to sons of the forest when it’s finished because the story is obviously a little barebones since it’s early access and all, I trust the devs though because the original was in the same situation for a while.
the biggest reason the forest is hated on is because youtubers tend to play it in groups in which they easily stomp threw the game at light speed not letting the best part of the game tha adaptive enemy diffculty keep up leading to there experince being boring.
@@spyegle you can say it's stupid but it's just a game. And there are other games that are crazy with the story like "Resident evil" but its fantasy you cant blame it
Ha not everyone does and how would that fit the true story anyway? Also Eric CAN decide NOT to shoot down the plane so there is that too. :P It just gives the gamer or protagonist options so they feel like the story is their own. :P
I still cant get over the fact that Eric canonically used the 2nd artifact *to* shoot down a plane and kidnap a child to sacrifice using the 1st artifact to resurrect Timmy 😂
If the girl is still alive too. Did he first test on her and resurrect her AGAIN to make sure he knew how to do it correctly? How old is this mc compared to Timmy? Could our mc in theory be the 3rd kid from that island? There was 3 fitting kids on the plane right? The reason he ended up going so far, may be due to all the absurd shit he had to do on the island. I mean when you deal with all that crap, its not strange you get a bit messed up in your head right? You have likely been drugged on adrenaline for the whole while you are there. And... I mean. Humans are selfish. I (probably) would happily click a button that would magically sacrifice 3 billion people around the world if it gave me great power, about a thousand extra years of youth. At least if I did not need to risk being punished over it. Even if I was told their deaths would be filled with horrific pain, I may still decide to do it. I only get my life to experience after all.
I have a theory on what the mutants are, is it possible that the bodies of parallel selves are combined into one? that's why they have weird multiple arms or legs and such. Pretty much shows how timmy mighve got mutated in a way that his mind was combined or morphed with his other selves rather than his body who kept resisting it
The thing is, what other inter dimensional character would have such genetic forms like the mutant with fingers on its mouth (I forgot the name) although now that I am thinking about it, there could be a mixture of all timelines.
Eric didn’t get affected bc he wasn’t anywhere near the island when the cube went off. He flys back down to us at the end meaning he wasn’t here before that. They probably evacuated or something after getting shot
You know, considering Timmy plays a fairly large role in Sons of the Forest, I wouldn't be surprised if the main character was also one of those children from the first site in that plane shot down, cause if so then the name would make a lot more sense, given its the 'Sons' of 'The Forest'
I’ll maybe get the new game when Timmy isn’t in it. Because an alive Timmy isn’t compatible with the ‘non-scumbag protagonist’ way I played the Forest.
Sorry why would a child who was a victim of Eric not expose him and want him dead? Especially if he's met him on Site 1 and survived ALONG him while the 2 other kids died?
loved that yall used a trainer to brighten up the caves. i remember doing that after beating the game and just laughing at how much i missed by just running and having 0 visibility lol
I always thought that the forest was just about scary mutant cannibals and base building with cavern explorations but after watching both this and other videos i think that my view on both The Forest and Sons Of The Forest has changed drastically, well done!!
Originally, in it's very early early access days, that WAS pretty much what the forest was. Get dropped on an island with cannibals and mutants, build a base, and survive. But after lots of updates we now have a story to go with it.
I think LeBlanc wasnt affected by the cube because he left the island for a time after he got hurt to get treatment for his wounds but then he came back to save his son
When i played this game, based on the cross being a "shield" against the demons, the whole game could be a way into Dante's inferno. The way we go from a rescue mission to different layers within the island, the caves being more complex, finding an armour in caves covered with a new element that resembles gold, and the paintings that appear on the final bunker that resemble the different circles of hell and how weird entities worship this golden cube, at least i felt like it had some inspiration from Dante.
All of it except that one thing could be explained by alternate dimensions. As they've now added a spaceship underground. Though it appears to have a human skeleton in it's control seat. So it would be -cannibals; mind degradation from being too far from the cube to "merge" with their other selves. -Mutants; Were closer to the cube or maybe went through multiple of it's cycles and thus got mutated. -All the religious imagery; A lot of that seems to come from early colonisers, who might see mutants as "demons". -The cube itself; An interdimensional travel device. -The artifact bringing the planes down; Maybe a power source of some kind. -The alien looking city; An alternate version of earth where science progressed a lot faster. The only explanation for the cross I could come up with is that "alien city" isn't alien at all, but what hell looks like in that setting. But if so, that would make the space ship in the caves out of place. (And the puftons certainly didn't build it as it's very deep in a cave system, implying it crashed on the island VERY long ago and got swallowed up by the earth through an earthquake or something.)
I hope we get some explaination on the futuristic city in the cube, maybe the cube works like a Stargate? The symbols being a sort of an "address" of a parallel reality, maybe we'll get to see more of them by using these symbols
Yea when I first picked up that page I was dreading a puzzle involving them I would be to stupid to solve. Yet as of right now it seems meaningless until an update around them comes out.
oh i bet that is saved for the 3rd game, what ever they may call it. also they said there is a reason its called sons of the forest. not son but sons. does that mean both you and timmy or something else that isnt in game yet that is like the sons from the first forest?
to me the "True Demons" almost looked like aliens with their eyes and head shape that could belong to the alien city, Also there is a theory that aliens made the sinkhole in the first game so it could be possible that the demons were the Aliens who made the sinkhole and are from the parallel dimension
@@_riri_.__890 Or alternate universe where aliens did come? Seems there may be more than a few different "Creatures" from mutants to demons so who knows what else.
Silver guy must have spared Timmy and Eric because they can solve the cube’s mystery. I think he held Erik hostage in order to force Timmy to lead him to the cube, and Timmy betrays him in the end by not telling him to get inside. Erik must have fought off whoever was holding him and survived since he is a survival expert after what he lived through in site 1. Or else he called the helicopter that we saw in the end and they saved him from whoever was holding him and all they had to do is hope for Timmy to survive the silver jacket guy.
Would also make sense why eric didn't transform aswell cause you never want to keep someone you take hostage in reach so he was probably off island on a boat or something and got picked up first before going to pick up timmy and the protag and companions
@@ItsShatter why did i found the golden armor deep inside a cave and not the bunker? is it because the newer patch? Also i think after Jianyu shot Eric, they left him there and capture Timmy to confine him. I remember saving someone in a bunker somewhere near the final bunker by opening the room door and seeing him escape through a monitor. Eric survived because Jianyu thought he's dead and left him. So Eric went out to the helicopter to get outside of the cube activation and went back with the copter after the cube is deactivated.
I want them to add more information about the islands cannibal tribes. The abandoned villages led me to believe there was a civilized population on the island in decades past, and it appears the cannibals are newer to the island since they built a golf course above the surface.
@@cameronatcher909 That's obvious and explained in the game. I'm just assuming PuffCorp wouldn't build a golf course above ground with hundreds of cannibals roaming the island; so where did the cannibals come from?
There's a letter talking about how people keep coming to the island because they think dying there will give them powers or something. Idk I've only played Sons through once and don't remember the exact wording, but the letter does address the fact that people are always trying to get on the island.
@@CaeridLock. the plot wiki article is a pretty dry gist of the plot, this (and that) video is nice because it goes into way more detail + adjacent lore of the world.
It's my understanding that the mutations are caused by the cube's activation. The activation pulses out energy from multiple realities at once, causing people's alternate selves from those realities to all attempt to join with each other. This energy and merging of alternate selves seems to cause radical and rapid mutation. Timmy obviously was affected to a similar degree in the first game but the energy wasn't as powerful as the cube. But the energy ALSO caused all those alternate selves to get purged from Timmy's body with the activation. I think that the people who don't go through wild transformations are because the majority of their alternate selves are dead or already mutated in another reality. Another theory I have is that proximity to the gold ore also determines whether or not you're mutatated in addition to being near the cube. So people on the island who aren't mutated might be due to them being nowhere near the cube or any of the ore.
This video is absolutely amazing. Love the way you tell the story and manage to make it so sequential despite originally being displayed in the game as something with little guidance. Amazing job.
Very well done. Love how you describe the actions of the players in the games as if it's been a narrative the whole time. Made it feel way cooler than my version: Me panicking my way through a demon filled cave with a katana and a dream. Thanks for the video and keep it up!
I'm gonna preface this with, I promise that in no way am I trying to be an a-hole in typing this out, and I'm very sorry if at any point I come across as one. I'm merely trying to be informative, having beaten SotF three times - once prior to the v1.0 update, and twice after the fact (once to leave the island, and once to stay and keep playing). You may need to update your findings about Sons of the Forest, as they've changed since the release of v1.0. The remainder of this comment has spoilers, both minor and major. . . . . . . The player-character, Jack Holt, is a reporter who personally interviewed Edward Puffton on a number of occasions and gained the elderly CEO's trust - so much so that Mr. Puffton specifically requested that, in the event that no-one can get in contact with him and his family for seven months, Jack be alongside the Search-and-Rescue teams. The "deceased Puffcorp operatives" were members of Team B - Jack and Kelvin being part of Team A - of the S&R effort. They were in the other helicopter that flew in alongside yours. There are also now more Mutants; The Twins - a male and female mutant conjoined at the hips - which can be seen walking along a window in one of the bunkers, Leggies - a pair of legs that walk around using several misshapen hands as feet, Johns - similar to Twins, but situated more like Cat-Dog and move around like a Slinky does down stairs, anf Holeys - which look like flesh-colored Human hearts with legs that act a lot like the previous game's Cowmen, as well as Virginias and Armsies from the previous game. The Golden Ore is Solafite, a precious metal with many properties - one of which being pivotal to upgrading Jack's equipment, and unlocking the endgame events. In the Banquet Hall, a cutscene plays where Jianyu Zhang and a small task force are donning diving gear next to the broken window. The other members get suddenly grabbed and dragged into the water, with Jianyu willingly jumping in after them while Edward and Barbara Puffton - now Blue Puffies - emerge and assault Jack alongside a small group of Puffies (the faceless Mutants) and Twins. Tim and Eric LeBlanc came to the island on their own, searching for a way to cure - or at the very least reduce the effects of - the mutation occurring within his body. Jianyu and his entourage are indeed working for Sahara Therapeutics - Jianyu used to work for the Pufftons as a legal representative (his status as Security was changed to this in the v1.0 update), but was fired after Edward caught wind of his actions on the island (which included hunting and executing a group of cultists who came to the island, which they saw as a holy site, in order to commit self-sacrifice). While off the island, Jianyu was contacted by Sahara and paid to return to it and steal any information on Puffcorp and/or its fascination on Solafite. Jianyu also has a personal grudge against Edward in particular, wanting to flatline him himself. Puffcorp''s interest in the island is, in some senses, occult. The placement of the bunkers was deliberate, in an attempt to channel energies from the next dimensional distortion - an event that happens on the island every so-often, which caused everyone in the bunkers to mutate - into everyone and cause a kind of cellular rejuvenation, substantially increasing the lifespans of everyone involved. before the event, Edward Puffton began questioning whether or not the bunkers were positioned properly in an e-mail. The Golden Armor (renamed to Ancient Armor) is instead found inside of a derelict spacecraft of unknown origin, as well as a piece of a mysterious Artifact - one of seven, the rest being strewn across the island's other caves, within an expansive cave that spans the distance from one side of the Eastern mountains to the other. Unfortunately, Jack never does actually get to inform Virginia of Edward's will or her parents' passing - though, it'd be pretty cool and probably emotional if we could. All of the Cube paintings were commissioned by Edward, bsed off of varous dreams he'd had about it. The aforementioned cultists (the ones Jianyu was hunting) stormed the Pufftons' bunker, with the goal of blowing up the bathroom wall and gaining access to the Cube. Unfortunately, the Golden Door behind the wall cannot be opened until the Ancient Armor is upgraded with Solafite - a blueprint of a structure used for the process is found nearby, with Tim LeBlanc inspecting the door itself for a way in. Using the Cross against Puffies actually makes them recoil in fear, so it's not entirely useless against them. Tim accompanies Jack through the Hell Caves, giving exposition and helping fight the Demons along the way. Just before the wall-crack that leads to the Cube, a particularly large Demon crawls out of the lava and flings Tim through it. Jack doesn't necessarily have to defeat it before continuing, but we're all going to fight it regardless. "Fight Demons," and all. Tim's goal was indeed to get inside of the Cube with the hopes that it'd cure him, but it doesn't work. In the final update, when the Cube's other face opens up to reveal the city, several spectral apparitions of the cultists and a few Mutants fly past, and the small ghost of a John brushes past Jack's legs in a catlike manner before vanishing. The Cube finishes doing its thing, Tim exclaims in dismay at how the Cube didn't cure him, and Virginia collapses in Jack's arms. Upon leaving the Puffton bunker and heading toward a couple helicopters, a heavily mutated Jianyu bursts from the ground, takes down one of the helis, seemingly eats the pilot, and shrieks in the player's face, "What did you see in the Cube? WHAT DID YOU SEEEE?!" A boss fight ensues - unlike with the large Demon, this one is unavoidable. Once the fight ends, the Artifact piece come salive (in a sense) and uses electricity to steal his backpack, beckoning him to stay and complete it, all the while Tim urges him to get aboard the remaining helicopter, exclaiming "Don't follow it! It wants you to stay!" - referencing a note found earlier, which read "Never leave the island!!" Staying results in the rest of the Artifact pieces (or at least one of them) being highlighted by five beams of energy, with the LeBlancs leaving you behind. Choosing to disregard the Artifact and leave, however, will play an ending cutscene that changes depending on if Virginia, Kelvin, both, or neither are still alive.
There's a new update to the story of the Sons of the Forest which adds a new Cult that seemed to be on the island before puff industry as well as the gold Armor location was changed to a altar in area made of the golden metals, as well as a New Demon Boss before the Cube
Theory: the missing artifact at 21:00 was the cube, or at least another one separate from the one on site 2. The scorched corpses positioned near the missing artifact were looking at it when they died, maybe indicating that the cube's mutation pulse occurred, but was perhaps manipulated, causing the missionaries to all die instantly. It's obviously not distance to the cube that changes it's effect, as Jianyu mutated and didn't die despite being right next to it. It also could have teleported to site 2 after use, due to it's extradimensional properties. There's evidence of missionaries on site 2 as well, so maybe several of them were inside the cube when it happened and were transported there.
The "missing" artifact isn't missing, It's the artifact that shoots down the plane Sahara moved the artifact up to the top of the mountian so they could test it's weapon capability but they found it in that spot with all the dead peaple around it
It's absolutely distance based with the cube. That explains why Jianyu was a horrific blob, while the people in the bunkers and caves were more like sentient mannequins. And the people/cannibals on the surface weren't all that affected. Virginia was either on the surface in a pond/lake/ocean near the cube when it went off, or far enough away in the bunker that she only got the extra arm and leg.
@@brad2751 The fact that Virginia is wearing a swimsuit definitely suggests that she was swimming when the cube activated. She might have been well off the coast, which would explain her minimal mutations. (Though not how she'd avoid the sharks...) She'd be farther away than the cannibals, though. Other people have pointed out that the cannibals don't seem to have mutations, which seems like a plot hole. Even if she were in a nearby pond (though I don't know why you'd swim in the ponds on that island, seems pretty gross vs. the ocean), she still has more mutations than the cannibals on the surface. I hope there's an eventual explanation for that.
@@bluesonicstreak7317 Or she had either just finished, or was about to go swimming, but was still in the bunker at the time. Either way, I hope they start covering more of these little details to make the story more in-depth.
It's funny if you pause the screen at the 28:57 mark of the video, you can read the front and back cover of Timmy's book, "Parallel Universes and Travel Between Them." I read all the notes on the back cover because the detail looked so much like an actual published book. But the best part is if you examine the price of the book in the lower left-hand corner with the barcode, the is listed as "$3.99 U.S./$184.99 Can (Canadian)...and it even says "Printed in Canada"
30:41 idk why but i got the chills when Eric Leblanc came back to save both timmy and the protagonist. And im also so happy that he survived being shot. Loved the ending of Sotf and loved the Video aswell

Fantastic video! The full story timeline with the brightened relevant footage gave so much more detail in the story i hadn't seen in other videos for this game. Plus cat meow at the end!
Holy crap, this was such a good video, amazing work, its crazy how you only have 127k Subs. you should have a million by now, keep up the great work dude, love your work.
This is absolutely the best explanation of the forest and sons of the forest. It's simple yet detailed. Thank you for such a great video. I was racking my brain trying to understand the end of The Forest and this was just what i needed. Sons of the forest as well. No extra nonsense just straight to the story in an easy to understand narrative. The only question i have is who in their right mind thinks if this crazy stuff to make games about!? Lord have mercy.
@@coraliecomeau6091 There is a specific dead NPC that is repeated throughout the island, and he's mostly found around areas of story progression. He's on the beach holding the Pistol Rail, near the emergency raft. He's in the Coffin where you dig up the shotgun. He's ALL OVER the shovel cave in the main room. He's even holding the Gun Light. My theory is, the Island is a point where our world meets many other worlds/timelines, and the main character always ends up on the island in all possible situations, but our timeline is the only one where you're surviving. Every time the Relic activates it pulls all the universes together, dead bodies and all.
@@sockembopperify The cube combines all of the people's universes together, meaning their bodies, into 1 form. Other than the dead NPC's that look like the MC, there is no other evidence of multiples of other people. There was only 1 of each of Edward, Barbara, Virginia, Jianyu, etc. If it only applies to the MC, then that's a story route that has yet to be introduced, which would involve a lot of new information and plot/story lines. Most likely the dead NPC's that look like the MC are a result of lazy character design.
@@sockembopperify its not the same person tho. It had been stated that there had been an investigation Team sent even before the main character was shot down. So those are just different bodies of different investigators
This game should definitely be a movie. I was already so fascinated about the forest but this adds even more interest, not to even mention the possible part 3 🤩 so many plot twists and mysteries i love it.
I thought the purple GPS pings were from the team on the other helicopter, as they are referred to by "find team B" they also are a morbid story with two members appearing to have committed suicide after one member died and was buried (thx for the shotgun lol)
This was a great summary, thank you for the great video mate! I love The Forest, and hopefully this franchise will continue wiith this unprecedented topic in survival games!
really loved this video super great for clearing up any and all questions and or confusion with the lore/storyline thank you very much couldn't have been a short video to make for sure I'm sure it took a good bit of time to get all those shots and edit it enough to match up with the audio so well.
Amazing video with incredible detail somehow packed into a nice 45 minuetes. There was no fat or unneeded areas and you had my interest the whole time. Great vid overall and can’t wait to see the next story description.
I’ve never heard of you before this video as it popped into my recommended out of nowhere but I have to say that the production, storytelling and information was excellently done in this video. If you’re looking to continue growing your channel then I highly recommend continuing to produce this style of content as you do it immaculately
i think jianyu zhang didint know the cubes location. thats why he let protagonist and timmy live. he kept an eye on them until they find the cube for him.
Honest with Eric I think he didn’t change because he managed to get off the island after being shot and get an escape helicopter/ rescue chopper. Then was on his way back when the wave of mutation struck being outside its range
An absolute master piece. Perfect video I loved the way you structed and presented all the information. Amazing work keep it up :) PS kelvin is the main character
Actually in some cave in sons of the forest there is a picture of a man Inside of a hypercube. That can mean that not only the first altar bring a person back to life, but it also brings its copy/clone and melts it into an amalgam of 2 persons. 1 dead and one alive from an unknown dimension. It can also mean that the resurrection altar CHANGES THE PAST of the person.
Just saw earlier video! Epic job!👏👏👏 Hugs to Marshmallow & Krazyflipz😻 I would apprieciate more videos like this in the future. This analysis was amazing and so detailed that it blows mind away! Bravo!👏👏👏
This was an awesome video. I just finished the second game so far and this answered a lot of questions that I had. I want them to add a lot more story and dialogue.
This was a really crazy effort from you; the research, the editing the script, everything. Thank you so much for this, it’s the peak of performance that someone can expect from this topic content. Definitely recommending this to someone who wants to know the forests story. Please, do this once in a while.
I loved the Forest and it's story was captivating, your video coverage of the Lore reminded me how good it really is. I believe the cube is a doorway into hell itself.
My main question is how did they manage to build the entire resort without getting mutated far earlier. I’m assuming they activated the cube or something after it was all set up but haven’t found a clear answer yet
some possibilities that the cube cycle wasn't started yet when the resort build, then after puff corp finished build the resort and find the cube they did something that started off the initial cycle then after the first 8 weeks when the puffs and other rich people partying in the bunker the cube happen to blow off the effect which reached them in bunker
Wow this is GOOD! Fills in so many gaps in the 2 games! Thank you! First time I watched a video by you. Do you do these types of vids a lot? I love lore vids!
42:38 carl planter is dead next to a radio and some containers next on the shore by the raft with the pistol. Or at least that body looks almost exactly like him
Awesome video, I'd never even heard of this game but the story is very interesting. I'll subscribe in case you decide to upload more long form content like this 😊
Thanks dusk! I plan on doing more story style videos as time allows. Been busy trying to graduate from grad school this last month or so but I’m almost out, will have way more time to make videos at that point!
Very nice. Thank you for this. As someone who didn't play The Forest, this is really helpful to have to be able to understand more of the backstory. Also, I wonder why the cannibals aren't being affected by the cube's activation? And where did the cannibals come from in the Sons of the Forest island? We got a good backstory for them in The Forest, but I guess I missed it for the Sons of the Forest.
I don't know if the locals/tribals on the island/near the cube are cannibals exactly. They definitely appear more like primitive humans than mutant cannibals (where as the cannibals on the Peninsula are definitely mutated and use religious iconography, suggesting an origin from the early Christian Missionaries). Back to Sons Of The Forest, I think the Cube does have a limited range and may be confined to spaces underground. As far as I've seen, none of the tribals that can be found above ground can also be found within the cave systems on the island.
@@ItsShatter Similarly to humans having gold their veins, maybe mutation from the cube puts the weird mineral found in site 2 into the veins of the mutated, and the cannibals aren't as mutated as things closer to the cave, meaning they can't be mutated further, same with mutants with frequent exposure to the cube.
Forgot to mention that the gold armor is made of this mineral and seems to contrast the cube's effects. I know this theory currently doesn't have much merit currently, but its the best I could come up with with the information we have so far.
I'd love to see an updated version of this video, specifically covering the new location where the set of golden armor is found and how the hell any of that could possibly fit into the story, as well as the two boss fights.
New location ie: the ship and bodies could be attributed to the cube. When activated maybe the side of the cube facing the city is not the only dimensional gateway but one of many. And through one of those gateways the ship accidentally flew into our dimension, crash landing. The boss fights don’t add much to the story except combat…. However Timmy being able to use his powers seems pretty major
I'd love another game with the same place and setting, but from Timmy's perspective, that would give us a lot of answers, and be pretty cool to see, in my opinion.
Love the amount of effort you put into this, but more so, the consistency and clear explaining of the linear story of TF and SOTF. Now granted, more information is available now, and some things have been altered, and I think some things might be different or are a bit ambiguous to conclude at this point. But this video gives the best conclusions to the whole story. I really, really hope you make a revised version in a year or so, hopefully when everything storywise has been completed by Endnight and we have less distortion overall. Again, great job! Amazing video!
Loved the whole video presentation and nice story telling, can't wait to see the whole ending for The Sons of the Forest as the developers add in more story in the game p.s. love pats for marshmallow 😄
Let's hope we don't have to wait another decade for this game to be complete. On second thought...I've gotten almost ten years of fun out of the first game. Maybe a slow burn isn't such a bad thing?
I would guess the gold armor either prevents you from being affected during the 8th cycle, is needed for proper cube activation (resonates with its wearer), or bestows some ability to its wearer during a cycle.
I think after the player has done certain events a ominous shock wave should vibrate and make his cross shake. This could happen multiple times but at certain points around certain characters to know who's influenced by it or not.
this video was so amazing. I love these explanation videos and I hope to see more like this. I love the hard work you have put into the video and i wish you the best.
My assumption is that Sam Sounde will be the main antagonist of the entire series and will appear in The Forest 3. (Either playable or not.) He probably had a hand in everything, maybe because he’s jealous of his co-author’s success? No clue. If not. I still wouldn’t be surprised if he’s helping the LeBlancs in Sons of the Forest in order to acquire the artifacts/knowledge. From his seemingly very creative mind, I could see Sam wanting to access parallel worlds. So far, the three artifacts seem to be as follows: #1 - Trade 1 life for another life. However, this forces every alternate dimension version of yourself to enter your body in order to work, essentially a more condensed power of the Cube. This usually has terrible results, but Timmy is able to withstand it. (Odd coincidence huh. What really happened to his Mom?) #2 - A weapon that can seemingly disable devices… But is that it? I mean, I’m sure other dimensional beings need weapons but, seems a bit mundane in comparison to the others. #3 - A cube that acts as a multi-dimensional nuke of sorts that causes mutations for all in a set area that are not inside. It essentially forces them to combine with their other dimensional versions of themselves, creating abominations. With its immense power, it can even temporarily open a doorway into another dimension. I predict the next game to be a prequel called ‘Cult of the Forest’ where you play as Sam going to an island and uncovering more artifacts. Maybe being the first one to really start funding research into them. Alternatively you could play as someone else and find the prequel story through notes and such but eh… A whole prequel game would help the story a lot. I also predict that the ultimate artifact, the be-all-end-all, will be an **entire** island. Imagine the third game taking place on an island that’s alive and does crazy unexplainable things that grow more and more intense as the days pass (for whatever reason.)
In times like 36:24, I really appreciate the way you tell the story. Instead of just saying "the protagonist makes his way through the cave" you make it feel more like a cinematic experience. 37:04 was pretty funny, too haha
this was an incredible video! i wish more games were displayed in this manor. it was basically a spoiler free video that gave enough details to explain to new and old players WTF happened and fill in the blanks if you had played them. i have been watching Jawoodle fumble through the game and basicly had no idea why anything was as it was. i thank you sir for all your hard work
The Chad male - searches for his missing boy -fights off the least inbred Alabama human - builds a base -uses dead body parts to make stylish amors -goes on a mining trip for his son -finds him dead -goes to recreate 9/11 -kills a mutant girl -revies his son -leaves
i want to know why virginia's mutation is different than everyone else's. why she still has her mind and the others dont. for as how far it goes i would say it stops before the surface cause of all the cannibals and if you play long enough you see there is kinda a war of mutants vs cannibals. yea there are other story beets but virginia's part is the one i want to know.
Virginia was either on the surface in a pond/lake/ocean near the cube when it went off, or far enough away in a bunker that she only got the extra arm and leg.

@@zerodawn09 It's a proximity thing with the cube. That's why Jianyu became a hideous blob just outside the cube, and those on the surface are barely, if at all affected.

I have a theory on what the mutants are, is it possible that the bodies of parallel selves are combined into one? that's why they have weird multiple arms or legs and such. Pretty much shows how timmy mighve got mutated in a way that his mind was combined or morphed with his other selves rather than his body who kept resisting it
This is what is happening. 100%
this is very clever, i fully agree !
The thing is, what other inter dimensional character would have such genetic forms like the mutant with fingers on its mouth (I forgot the name) although now that I am thinking about it, there could be a mixture of all timelines.
This is the story of the forest, the resurrection altar isn't really reviving you, it's bringing an alternative version of you into this body/reality.
This is exactly what I thought as well. The dimensional rift collided all alternative versions together. Creating an abomination
Your writing is really solid and comprehensive. This is the definitive story explanation for sure.
Omg and thanks to the ripped textures, I can FINALLY read the back of the books. THANK YOU
Eric didn’t get affected bc he wasn’t anywhere near the island when the cube went off. He flys back down to us at the end meaning he wasn’t here before that. They probably evacuated or something after getting shot

man why are all the games i enjoy references to the divine comedy
@@gothiiispiderz it's a big piece of culture
@@gothiiispiderzproblem?
@@overland1178 no? i never said there was a problem. i was just pointing it out
I hope we get some explaination on the futuristic city in the cube, maybe the cube works like a Stargate?
Well not to mention a cave that has dead astronauts in it too.
Or else he called the helicopter that we saw in the end and they saved him from whoever was holding him and all they had to do is hope for Timmy to survive the silver jacket guy.
this could definitely fill in some gaps!
So Eric went out to the helicopter to get outside of the cube activation and went back with the copter after the cube is deactivated.

the puffcorp people built the golf course
@@cameronatcher909 That's obvious and explained in the game. I'm just assuming PuffCorp wouldn't build a golf course above ground with hundreds of cannibals roaming the island; so where did the cannibals come from?
There's a letter talking about how people keep coming to the island because they think dying there will give them powers or something.
Idk I've only played Sons through once and don't remember the exact wording, but the letter does address the fact that people are always trying to get on the island.
That moment when you finish watching the first video and this is the video that plays next...
How about 5 mins after a wiki binge let's see if there's anything I missed
@@CaeridLock. the plot wiki article is a pretty dry gist of the plot, this (and that) video is nice because it goes into way more detail + adjacent lore of the world.
Ok

All that being said, I would 100% recommend playing through the game again, especially since the v1.0 update changed so much about the game.
Thanks for adding this comment! I was so confused by the video, this explains the discrepancies between what I played and what was shown here.
There's a new update to the story of the Sons of the Forest which adds a new Cult that seemed to be on the island before puff industry as well as the gold Armor location was changed to a altar in area made of the golden metals, as well as a New Demon Boss before the Cube
I was curious on that. I started playing after update 8 so I found the armor in the Golden altar instead of the residence

The "missing" artifact isn't missing, It's the artifact that shoots down the plane Sahara moved the artifact up to the top of the mountian so they could test it's weapon capability but they found it in that spot with all the dead peaple around it
@@knuckledust3835 oh ok that makes sense
It's absolutely distance based with the cube. That explains why Jianyu was a horrific blob, while the people in the bunkers and caves were more like sentient mannequins. And the people/cannibals on the surface weren't all that affected.
Virginia was either on the surface in a pond/lake/ocean near the cube when it went off, or far enough away in the bunker that she only got the extra arm and leg.
@@brad2751 The fact that Virginia is wearing a swimsuit definitely suggests that she was swimming when the cube activated. She might have been well off the coast, which would explain her minimal mutations. (Though not how she'd avoid the sharks...)
She'd be farther away than the cannibals, though.

Yo, you should do an update on the story since 1.0 came out and a lot of new story items were added. Love the videos!
I believe the cube is a doorway into hell itself.
if that's the case then I guess Hell is a futuristic city?
@@LoneWolf_8 It does say that Lucifer built his own kingdom as he wants to be God. Perhaps he even made his own planets too. Just my own theory.
@@IrishTechnicalThinker very clever, i totally agree with you on here
This was very well written and explained. Excellent content!
My main question is how did they manage to build the entire resort without getting mutated far earlier. I’m assuming they activated the cube or something after it was all set up but haven’t found a clear answer yet
Lol I just commented the same thing haha
some possibilities that the cube cycle wasn't started yet when the resort build, then after puff corp finished build the resort and find the cube they did something that started off the initial cycle then after the first 8 weeks when the puffs and other rich people partying in the bunker the cube happen to blow off the effect which reached them in bunker
@@null8036 yep yep, i thought it was something like this too. Basically the entire time the cube wasnt even activated at all
AMAZING video man! Love how it was put together! Even my short ass attention span managed to stay engaged throughout the video lol well done!
They added a countdown timer to the inside of the cube that uses the number symbols from 43:29 in a recent update
the way you set up the video was amazing, never got bored watching throughout the video
Wonderful storytelling, I was meant to watch just for a little bit and finish later but I ended up watching the whole thing.
Thank you for watching and the kind words, Violet!
Back to Sons Of The Forest,
I think the Cube does have a limited range and may be confined to spaces underground. As far as I've seen, none of the tribals that can be found above ground can also be found within the cave systems on the island.
@@ItsShatter yeah that makes sense. Thank you for the quick response.
@@The_Apex_Of_Predators i agree that the armor is made of the same ore/metal as the cube/that is on the island. That much is basically confirmed
That's a handsome ragdoll you have there, has the same expression as ours! Thanks for putting both games stories together.
AMAZING video thanks for your work explaining the many scattered threads of this story.
Maybe a slow burn isn't such a bad thing?
hey this is my first time stumbling on your channel you should definetly do more story explanation videos like this for video game series
I would guess the gold armor either prevents you from being affected during the 8th cycle, is needed for proper cube activation (resonates with its wearer), or bestows some ability to its wearer during a cycle.
Honestly never knew there was a sequel and honestly it looks good!
Awesome content. As a fan of game lore, I'll be subscribing
I happen to be watching this at 2 A.M. on a Monday... that ending line startled the hell out of me!
This would’ve taken forever well done
I just saw this video and you clarify so much to me ! I had no idea what happened when I finish SOTF thank you so much !
I think after the player has done certain events a ominous shock wave should vibrate and make his cross shake.
This could happen multiple times but at certain points around certain characters to know who's influenced by it or not.
This is the best video about the forest story ive ever seen by far. Very well explained👏👏
Now after hearing the story of these two games I want a movie or at the very least a series on Netflix 😃
this video was so amazing.
So far, the three artifacts seem to be as follows:
#1 - Trade 1 life for another life. However, this forces every alternate dimension version of yourself to enter your body in order to work, essentially a more condensed power of the Cube. This usually has terrible results, but Timmy is able to withstand it. (Odd coincidence huh. What really happened to his Mom?)
#2 - A weapon that can seemingly disable devices… But is that it?
Imagine the third game taking place on an island that’s alive and does crazy unexplainable things that grow more and more intense as the days pass (for whatever reason.)
so, like the Lost series? but more gruesome and gritty
In times like 36:24, I really appreciate the way you tell the story. Instead of just saying "the protagonist makes his way through the cave" you make it feel more like a cinematic experience.
37:04 was pretty funny, too haha
Just finished the vid considering the forest fanbase
You should be atleast at 500k
Great video loved it
Hope u add more to it after update
Yes I will and thanks for your support again!
I never saw this ending of The Forest. I couldn't bring myself to press the button.
this was an incredible video! i wish more games were displayed in this manor. it was basically a spoiler free video that gave enough details to explain to new and old players WTF happened and fill in the blanks if you had played them. i have been watching Jawoodle fumble through the game and basicly had no idea why anything was as it was. i thank you sir for all your hard work
Absolutely phenomenal, keep up the good work!
Man Istg this guy is the MatPat of the forest games, good job my guy
Nice video man
Helped my crew to continue our conquest through site 2
My brain is about to blow up from how much lore there is lol
GG I picked your video out of 5 of the same topic. Thank you for putting time and effort into creating a impressive summary and voice dialogue
Yes this is the type of content I love cuz I know I won’t play sons of the forest 😂 but it’s such an interesting story
why not play it? it's super fun
The Chad male
- searches for his missing boy
-fights off the least inbred Alabama human
- builds a base
-uses dead body parts to make stylish amors
-goes on a mining trip for his son
-finds him dead
-goes to recreate 9/11
-kills a mutant girl
-revies his son
-leaves
Great editing and an awesome explanation of the story, everything was explained in great detail, very good job
Who else is here from Soviet Womble?
wonder if he saw this video before making his own, This video seems to be Explaining most of it
@@DutchChaosGamers But it looks like most of the lore is outside the game
This video is mint, amazing work
i want to know why virginia's mutation is different than everyone else's. why she still has her mind and the others dont. for as how far it goes i would say it stops before the surface cause of all the cannibals and if you play long enough you see there is kinda a war of mutants vs cannibals. yea there are other story beets but virginia's part is the one i want to know.
Virginia was either on the surface in a pond/lake/ocean near the cube when it went off, or far enough away in a bunker that she only got the extra arm and leg.
@@brad2751 thats just a guess. there is no info yet on what or how. might want to put "i think" or something like that before it cause you know there will be people that read that and think its true.
@@zerodawn09 It's a proximity thing with the cube. That's why Jianyu became a hideous blob just outside the cube, and those on the surface are barely, if at all affected.
In the bunkers, the people turned into faceless mutants, while those deeper in the cave closer to the cube became Fingers, Sluggy, Twins, etc.
@@brad2751 wrong theres a sluggy in the dinning hall. what about the one that is being fought? isnt that in a bunker too? also there is no info on that. its your guess and stop trying to pretend its true.
@@zerodawn09 There was no Sluggy in my play through in the dining hall. There was a Caterpillar, or John 2.0, whatever you want to call it.
The Sluggy cutscene withe Timmy, Eric, and Jianyu happens in the Katana bunker, which you have to enter through a cave, and exit through a cave. So it's not exactly a stretch to see how it got in there.
Banger video But you Need to do an Updated Video especialy for sons of the Forest because of all the Updates. This would be amazing
I loved this video, and would love to see this style on something like the Subnautica games.
