- Trains Going Right Through The Town With Sidewalks On Both Side Of Tracks! 5 Trains & Inside A Caboose During Riverfest Days! Ferry Boat, Western Maryland Locomotive, 600+ Axle Train & Industrial Spur In Town Close Look At Rail. Augusta, Kentucky Trains On CSX Ohio River Line. This Line Cuts Between The Home With Great Railfan Homes In A Peaceful Ohio River Town.
Augusta, Kentucky was having their annual 3 day event called Augusta Riverfest. This is a family event with food, numerous vendors, beauty pageant and live bands. They also have a caboose on display that you can walk through and look at displays inside it. The town has a ferry boat that goes across the river to Ohio. For me, taking the ferry can shave over 20 miles off my trip in one direction. I had my scanner with me so I could listen for the trains. Best frequencies here are 160.230 for the road channel and 452.9375 for EOT. There is a nearby defect detector so by monitoring these frequencies you can get about a ten minute warning per train. It really paid off for me. Each time I heard a train approaching I made a leisurely stroll a few blocks to the tracks and had plenty of time.
I got to Augusta just a little after 11am on a Saturday morning and the first train came at 1:52pm eastbound. That was a long one but they were all long trains. I went back to the festival to check out everything and before I knew it I heard a train approaching westbound at 5:27pm. I show my radio up close and then head back to the festival.
I was just getting in line for a drink when I heard my scanner start chirping for the EOT of another westbound train. This train came through town at 6:16pm and blessed me with the Western Maryland Heritage Unit! That was my first time to see that CSX special locomotive and I am told it has only been out a little over a month. That was really an awesome surprise!!! I heard someone in a car asking about that unit but I was still filming and by the time I was done filming they were gone. I felt kind of bad about that but I hope they see this video and understand.
I went back to checking out the bands and just before 9pm I started picking up action on the radio. The Jacksonville, Florida dispatcher was talking to an eastbound train so I went to the Main Street railroad crossing and waited for it. I was able to get a quick picture of the line side signal. This train came through town at 8:56pm and was booking pretty good. Just had enough light left so the timing was perfect. The ferry boat stopped running at 8pm so I had to take the long way home.
I had to drive about 16 miles up river to get to the bridge that crosses into Ohio. I drove about 10 miles and then looked over and noticed that I caught up to the 4th train. I never planned that so I went to the bridge, pulled over and filmed the other side of the train. I kept hearing the chirping on my radio but I didn't think anything about catching up to the train. They must have slowed down somewhere. I filmed that train at 9:25pm on the eastern edge of Maysville, Kentucky.
When I went over the bridge I noticed that the red light for the intersection was gone. A closer look and I determined that the light was not working at all. It was completely dark out and the red light was totally dark as if it weren't there. That was odd and people were just driving through and yielding. I guess someone unplugged it. Lol
Filmed Saturday, July 20, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Hey JT, what a cool tour of Augusta Kentucky. The ferry was very interesting and how it's connected by an arm to the barge itself and swings 180° depending upon which direction of the river it's going, I've never seen that before and the old faded advertising on the side of the building there at 25:33 was a real treat......even though I had no clue what it was.
Your hard work and effort is noticed and appreciated by all your fans here, especially myself.
Looks like an awesome town. Love your videos and how you show us other interesting things.
Thanks for watching!
The second mixed freight was nearly as long as the first! This one had 120 cars while the first was 135. This one had anew untagged yellow box car that looked brand new. Another awesome train, JT! Fabulous trains in a beautiful river town! How could it get any better? Thank you, my friend! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
Not sure I'd want to live that close. That 2nd train was booking. Any idea how fast?
That festival looked like a fun way to spend a day. Rail and riverboat is a nice combination. That red and white one was a doozi. WOW you're cooking tonite-5 trains and 3 long ones. How cool was that salute? Looked like you had two heritage units. Well done.
Here in France, as a young girl, I befriended an elderly poor man, of our church. He was poor his entire life, and so was forced to always live aside RR-tracks...the cheapest area of the city. The stories he told me about the passing trains and crews !
As always...👍🙏
Thank you again
The Western Maryland locomotive is very nice looking! 😁😁😁❤❤❤
Indeed!
@@JawTooth 🙂🙂
Jawtooth, I highly recommend the tour of the Clooney House. It's where Rosemary spent the last years of her life before passing in 2002. Her nephew George graduated from Augusta High School and used to have a place in town that was a highly guarded secret - very few knew when he cane to visit. We took the tour of the home circa 2004 shortly after Steve and Heather French Henry purchased it and opened it as a museum. In fact, Steve - former Lt. Governor of Kentucky - gave us the tour. August is a great little spot along the river!
I saw a vid, and stills, of the WM heritage unit when it rolled out of the shops in Waycross. That unit has a special significance to me because I was born and raised in Cumberland, MD when the Western Maryland was in it's prime, around the time when the railroad was being absorbed by the Chessie System. The WM basically ran through our backyard, and my grandpap was a conductor for them. I've been a railfan ever since. Of all the railfan vids I watch, JT, you're the first one to capture this unit in service. Thanks for taking us along with you to Augusta .. pretty cool little town with a lot of history .. I was so excited to see the WM heritage unit .. Excellent vid, JT, thanks again.
Nice tour JT. Your best yet. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
Fab video JT, looked like it was a great day, and lovely weather for you too 👍
Keep up the fantastic work you do. Steve from Liverpool UK
Thank You Jaw Tooth, excellent quaint location! Another great video for the books Son! Kool I Say
Jawtooth this video is amazing thanks for filming it great views of the river and ferry n the trains and the festival beat place to visit enjoyed it all ❤
No idea how you do it, JT, but you just produce better and better videos.
This one was amazing with all the content you got into it.
Heidi and I enjoyed it a lot!!
Really enjoy your videos. When I was small we had a train yard at the end of our street.my dad flagged a down a switch engine and asked if I could ride.he took me across the yard and back.that was 65 years ago I I've been hooked ever since
Great catch with the Western Maryland Heritage Unit #1852!
Thank you for showing this little nice town, looks beautiful.
Thank you too
What a beautiful little town on the river. Loved this one very much, JT! The ferry reminds me of my happy place...we took a similar ferry across the Columbia river from Washington to Oregon once upon a time 10 years ago next month. It held 15 cars and was $5 per car each way. I absolutely LOVED that ferry!! I could have gone back and forth all day, but hubs said we needed to move on to the Oregon coast.
Always love the trains but also love your local sights tours too. Thanks for a great one.
Awesome video Jawtooth! Augusta is such a beautiful town! Great catches! Especially the Western Maryland heritage unit! Cool 73 corvette at the Rosmary Clooney house!👍
It sure is! I like going there and it's not really that far for me especially if I take the ferry. Thanks for watching!
The Corvette would look good on my front lawn too.
Great catch as always ❤
wow, you could be a rail fan in any of these houses.
they have great views for sure
JT it’s a wonder you and Joey didn’t run into each other because he was over there too. Might’ve been different days I don’t know but anyway another awesome video my friend and I enjoyed the history of the town so it always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one.
Very true! I saw his video. I was there on Saturday and he was there Sunday. Today I ran into him in Blanchester and Loveland Ohio. We filmed an I&O train today that had 3 big locomotives
did anyone hear about the train accident with the garage near Nigra falls the other day? sorry for getting off topic.
Another super mixed freight, JT!! 149 cars. This is sure a good place to see long mixed freight trains if today was any indication. Great catches, each and every one! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤👍👍
Briliant rail movie, awesome captures! Thumbs Up
Greetings from Romania
Andrew
Nice catch of the heritage and a Maine Central boxcar
Thanks for the live action JT! I'm active duty military and I'm watching this from my deployed location. Makes me feel like I'm back in the states when I watch your videos.
This was a great video, I really enjoyed seeing all the festivities, what a cool place for train tracks. I watch your videos every day, have been for several years, keep up the good work.
What. A gorgeous shot of the river! 😀😀😀❤❤❤
That’s it JT ! your train volition is supreme great catch’s and horn salutes to boot 🥾
Thank you very much!
Thank you for touring around Augusta. It was a solid treat for me as I continue to look for places to buy a 2nd home outside of So. California where I've been all my life. Augusta is one dynamite town!! BTW, I looked at that house for sale that you noted right next to the tracks. It's gorgeous inside, completely updated and clean. The one big drawback for me, personally: No garage of any size. That's a deal-breaker as I have three vehicles, two are sporty cars, and I need at minimum a 1-2 car garage. There is also one very special place there for sale; the General John Payne's place at 102 Ferry St. It's a jaw-dropping, magnificent place right on the river. It was built in 1792. It's been so well restored it looks like it was built within the last 5 years... Simply amazing. It may seem pricey but you'd be shocked to see the crap going for similar $$'s here in SoCal. There's NO comparison, none at all!! Thanks again, buddy!!
I never noticed before this video the "Home Shop For Repairs Do Not Load" green decals that I saw on 5 tankers near the front of the first train. Great video!!!
Looks a good location to watch trains. Good seeing the Ohio River & folks enjoy Saturday.
Thanks 👍
Wow, a lot going on in this video. One of your best.
Wow that’s awesome …so beautiful sir what a great day !
Thank you kindly
Great video. Nice catch on the WM/CSX heritage unit.
Thank you very much!
Augusta looks like a great place. Anytime you can watch both rail and river traffic is a bonus. Great evening and night shots and loved the live action. Enjoyed it immensely, thanks JT!
Que bela cidade Augusta. Lindo vídeo. Fiquei muito feliz em ver um Cabose por dentro . Um forte abraço em vc JT.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love rising the ferrys, and how they turn the tow around.
CSX needs to send 1852 to Hagerstown, MD
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏

I have been a subscriber for a long time and with all of the various settings you have put in this video, definitely my favorite of all time. With that said, you have hit top notch many times before but now this is the "Champion". 😊
I really like the twilight shots. I think they're awesome! 😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤
So cool 😎 ! The longest mixed freight yet today. 144 cars! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
Good video 👍👍
Augusta, KY...very interesting railroad setting(s). @21:01 CSX rolling by that classic old brick building with an original painted "billboard" (on the brick, itself) makes for an awesome screenshot...nice job, 👌JT!! @39:50, your camera really captured that "patented" GE-FDL "chug"🎶!!!👍👍
Day out in Augusta. Brilliant video. Watching from the English Midlands🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it!
@@JawTooth Thank you for all your efforts driving long distance , 4-5 hour waits for a train. Been watching for a while rural USA is amazing. Mainlines in the UK trains run every 10-15 minutes, passenger and freight. But, thank you so much for all the effort you put in. Gives alot of people all over the World enjoyment.
Jawtooth, These are real good!! My Grandfather on my Mother's side used to change flats on trains back in the 50s in Texas!!
Awesome! Tanks for watching!
"that was a good one!"
11 hour day, thanks. Augusta Kentucky looks like a great place to grow uo or visit.
24 min mark: ah, kids putting coins on the tracks, I remember doing that.
35 mark: light were flashing on the camera.
Ohio river looks ominous what with all the recent flooding.
WOW! Neat town awesome vid.
Thanks!
Thanks for the Birthday greeting for Bobby. He really loved that.
Amazing video Jawtooth nice place which they are booking start the video now!!
Thanks a lot!
Fine video, Brian. Thanks for the grand tour of Augusta. Love that WM Heritage unit.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Yes I've been watching Anywhere Man Hobo since we lost Shoestring! He does good videos and he plays guitar really well providing music for his travels too!
Cool! I was fortunate enough to meet him with Shoestring and he is a very nice guy with awesome videos. He goes live a lot also which is always interesting
Thank you for taking us to the Augusta, Kentucky River Fest on 20 July 2024, Jaw Tooth! I enjoyed the walk around town to see the Rosemary Clooney House and the tour of the caboose. The operation of the ferry boat was also neat to see. I was surprised that there was so much sunlight still available at 9 PM when you caught the last train in Augusta, Kentucky. The trains that you caught in Augusta, Kentucky had a variety of freight cars in them. The CSX Western Maryland Heritage unit was a total surprise at the front of the train. (Posted on 23 July 2024 at 1535 CDT.)
I love this time of year with the long days of light. We are losing a little bit each day but 9pm is still pretty good for my area. thanks for watching and commenting Thomas!
@@JawTooth You are lucky as far as the time zones are concerned. You live near the end of the Eastern Time Zone, so the sun sets after 9 PM now for you. The Chicago area is at the beginning of the Central Time Zone, so the sun is setting around 8 PM for us. (Post on 23 July 2024 at 2051 CDT.)
@@thomasmackowiak Interesting. I was noticing that when I was in Iowa. I thought it seemed different.
Thank You - very nice!!
Nice 👍 Western Maryland heritage unit brian!!!
Yes indeed!
This was Very cool. Thanks Jaw Tooth.
Hello from Cleveland JT. I TURNED 66 ON JULY 18 . AND BECAUSE I HAVE TERRIBLE LUCK I LOST ONE OF MY DOGS TO CANCER . GREAT VIDEO AS USUAL. I SEE ALL THE FOOD STANDS MAKES ME HUNGRY
So Sorry for your loss 😢
Sorry for your loss, heartbreaking to lose a beloved dog
I lost my 6-year-old Pitbull he had a stroke and lost the use of his back legs. He had to be put down right around Thanksgiving. I adopted a 7 year old black labrador who had been at the shelter the longest and everyone was so happy that gojo got adopted. He does a good job of holding the floor down😂.
Hope your birthday was amazing.
@@frankmarkovcijr5459 thank you for your support. It's really hard to lose a dog . I still have one left . I come in the house and it's so empty without her . Every time I lose a dog a little of me dies with them . Thank you
31:20 I love how the tug swivels after leaving the ramp

Hi Jaw Tooth! Great video! Augusta looks like a nice place to live. Great train catches!
Have a great day!
Interesting, this episode has some off-track locations and action. As always great video presentation 👍
Great video! Had a bit of everything. Ferries autos and trains, love it. Loved that blue stingray! I bet rosemary clooney would've liked to drive that! Nice caboose. Would've been chill riding that. A night train, a long one at that. Thanks for the shout out, i appreciate that! 😎 fun watching the kids looking for the coins. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
Thanks for your support Mark! It was a fun day there at Augusta, I stayed past the point where they closed the ferry. I was going to ride the ferry back but I didn't know they closed at 8pm. Good thing I stayed till 9 though because I got that last train twice. lol. When I got to the Ohio side the red lights were completely dark at the intersection. I never saw that before, I thought they would at least flash. Anyway, thanks for your support with the gas! It definitely makes a difference
@JawTooth you are welcome Brian. I love the videos
Hey jaw Tooth i was thinking You should come to my spot in Danville Indiana.
It has 2 tracks but people do look at u lIKE A LOT. But it’s really fun and i love it there.
I think me and u should visit idk when but soon. Thanks - Ayden
That was a nice after dinner video to watch on this summer evening. Such a beautiful quaint area you were in. So many cool places in the USA 🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
I have a couple of those old red railroad lanterns. My Brother left them. He found them on some property he bought that had remnants of a narrow gauge line including the remains of a small sandstone supported bridge that crossed the creek. Some rail, spikes etc.
540-something axles on that first train, Jawtooth says. So I counted (or miscounted, as the case may be) and arrived at 133 cars + 2 locomotives for a 544 axle train. Gotta love Jawtooth's accuracy here . . . don't really like counting cars anyway. Thanks for the upload!
Very cool! thanks for watching!
Shout out to Jaw Tooth and his Awesome Railroad channel
That blue Corvette 💙 Stingray looks pretty delicious 😋 too JT @ "8:03" at the Fair grounds at Augusta ❤
So cool!
1973 'vette in my favorite color at the Rosemary Clooney house.

Papa train is back in the station Glad jaw tooth is back with a New video. 😊☺️
Thanks for watching!
Good 🎥 Mr. 🦷 and no “music” even better! Your commentary is much more interesting than the “music “ 👍👍
Thanks! 😃
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains, I like them, they're awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day.
Thanks, you too!
Jaw tooth, you should tell people about the blue signs on the railroad crossing lights and show a close up of the signs. Great information for the people who don’t know about the emergency numbers to call if they see a problem with a train or a crossing blocked, etc. Love your videos, watch all the time! Thanks Jaw Tooth
Good idea and thanks for the idea! I will remember to do that. Thanks for watching my videos!
Nice catch
Thank you very much!
Lots of good action there Brian.Nice catch of the Heritage Locomotive.I've been to Augusta too many times to count.I bought my tractor at that place years ago.
Cool, thanks for watching Steve! Augusta is a nice town. I rode the ferry the last time we were there a few years ago
