Looks like you got yourself 3 good bikes. Its a Honda; if it ain't broke enough so you can hear the motor scream, it isn't broken enough to kill it... Never give up, just fix it...
Thanks 🙏, I’m going to rebuild the top end on my free 1982 Honda xr80 , I plan on keeping it for a while so im going to make sure it’s nice and tuned up and replace anything that’s worn out of course
Go ahead and drop the cam chain down in to get it out of the way. You can easily grab it with a magnet. It wont get lost, dont worry. A lot of new mechanics worry about dropping the cam chain when its really actually more convenient than worrying about keeping it up. ESPECIALLY do it on engine assembly. It makes it 1000 times easier. Then just grab it with a magnet when done torqing it all. Good job though! 👍
The 1st to do is two compression test the tells you if losing it the 2nd tells you where you losing it how you do this put oil down the cylinder then you run the compression test if it goes up it’s the rings if it doesn’t it it’s the valve’s
I believe the confusing black plastic piece you removed when you lifted the cylinder off was the cam chain guide and tensioner doo-dad. You have figured that out long ago though, I'm sure. Thanks for the tear-down video. I have a 1986 XL 80, and though it has really low miles on it, the carburetor is giving me fits. I cleaned and reassembled that part several times, and it still loses power with throttle after the engine warms up. I don't know what the cause is. Cleaned the fuel lines, made sure the bowl was full, so I'm left puzzled. These bikes are a bunch of fun though, super lightweight, and although tiny, are a ball go bop around the yard and fields on, and perhaps a camping area.
A good engine to learn on. Maybe you should step away from the computer and put your hands on something besides a keyboard or a twinkie you waste of space
Thanks for the video. These engines are good to learn on...one piston, two valves.

Love learning as you go, nice job and nice collection. I like your style: Buy To Learn.

how did that go? i just bought one and did my valve adjustment
That was tough to watch. Would it have been easier had you left it in the frame?
Mine locked up any idea of what it needs?
I'm looking at buying one that the kids left the spark plug out of the hole and it seized up. Do you have a video of putting it back together?

Always a good idea to change the cam sprocket...

My xl 125 has the same exact problem I've tried everything I think it may need timed again
On what year models are the cylinders/heads interchangeable (XR/CRF80)?
Did you ever figure this out? I am wondering the same thing
Thank you for the video helped a lot

Did you find a rebuild kit? Having hard time finding one.
Wiseco has a full top end rebuild kit i just purchased im going to install once here
You might as well spend a little more money and BBR has a great 95cc kit. Everything you need. Cylinder, piston/rings, gasket, etc.

step away from the engine to learn a lot more before you make a mistake
