In the short spaces where the staccato notes are indicated I've heard the scale notes played softly at tempo without the pedal and the effect was beautiful and seemed very appropriate. Without the pedal the staccato effect sounds best if the notes in the left hand overlap slightly and it's all done so quickly that it sounds like the pedal is still being held down. It takes a bit of practice to get this just right. Thank you for this video. I'm certain that this series of videos which you've produced to showcase this Nocturne will become a staple on the Net. I don't think anyone else has ever presented a tutorial on a single piece of music which covers such a lengthy timeline and with such depth. It will probably take a while before people catch on but I can certainly see the videos being widely recommended.
The sheet music says "delicato" and "delicatiss.", and your fingers touch the keys with extreme delicacy. I haven't achieved this delicacy yet, but by studying these almost 4 hours of videos about this piece, I hope to get a little closer to this level. Thank you very much for the time you spent preparing the classes and sharing your knowledge. Excellent classes on a great piece by a brilliant composer. Regards.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I tend to be a pretty "hearty" player so I have had to practice a lot to get the delicate touch. I appreciate the compliment.
Thanks for watching. Will see about the f minor nocturne, lots of pieces in front of it but I get to these as much as I can in between my in-person lessons and other music work. Thank you for watching!

I tried the staccato effect and it does sound really nice! I tend to like more pedal at this moment myself, but VIEWERS please try this as an option.
