This is the tutorial I have been looking for! The idea to tie the fabric to the clothing rack is genious. Thank you!

I will have to try this sort of thing. Using a chain stitch might look good. I really like the pulled thread method too

I have to say that it may have a similar flare to an actual vyshivanka, but it is evident is just a mimic, like a halloween costume. The real thing was made with rectangles, sewn together in speciffic ways to enforce the duration of the garment. The embroidery method is also very speciffic, and is actually very quick. I happen to own some ancient ones, and they are absolutely gorgeous. I respect your try, but the real work pays back in beauty.

Oh, hush. You don’t know what everyone’s story is. I love hand embroidery, but it’s become very painful for me after many years at a keyboard. I am looking at embroidery machines to make vyshyvanka.
My only tip would be to try adding stabilizer like you would if this was being done on an embroidery machine… I noticed a couple of skipped stitches on the first sample. That seemed odd. The fabric probably needs something to give it temporary stability while you work on it that can be removed when you’re done, like tear-away stabilizer or even tissue paper.
The desire to keep this art alive is to be applauded, no matter how you go about it.
      I think this is wonderful.

Did you make the vyshivanka shirt yet? That one you embroidered squared and stars on white fabric. I would love to see how it looks like finished.

Beautiful! Thank you. I was wondering the name of the re skirt/apron worn over the dress about 11 seconds in?

Dear, we call it плахта (plakhta). Originally Vyshyvanka dress should be worn with plakhta. Because without plakhta this dress becomes a dress for sleeping. Plakhta usually made from two pieces of fabric and strips.
