  • Join Bozena Hrycyna and explore Ukrainian embroidery for beginners as a fun, relaxing way to discover this popular and highly developed fine art. The unique look of Ukrainian embroidery (rushnyk or рушник) is a result of the specific combinations of materials, designs, techniques and colours and varies depending on the region of origin.

I've started making a rushnyk to gift some dear friends of mine who were integral to the wellbeing of my twins being born! I'm about 10 hours into embroidering it.

This was fantastic. There is very little in relation to this on RUclips. Can you maybe show differences in the embroidery in different Slavic countries? Can you also go over the different symbols in the embroidery, preferably pre-Christian.

I’ve seen publications with traditional embroidery 🧵 in every region of Ukraine 🇺🇦 Have you tried to search online in Ukrainian language? Local museums in almost all cities in Ukraine 🇺🇦 are a good resource for certain traditional embroidery🌟

Can anyone share the proper method for cleaning a rushnyk? We have one that adorns our icon corner that we received from the Priest who presided over our wedding ceremony, but it has collected dust over the years and i do not want to damage the cloth so I am unsure of the proper way to clean such a treasured piece. Thank you, anyone who can help.

Love this !!!! I’m studying the Rushnyk and Slavic embroidery symbols even including the embroidery from the Baltic regions. Any book recommendations about this topic?
    Thank you 🙏

Would you possibly be able to show how the ritual for a rushnyk would be done at the wedding alter??
My fiance is Ukrainian but was adopted and does not know much about traditions. I am trying to incorporate as much of his culture to our wedding as possible 💗💗💗

I heared that the more you wash it, the whiter it gets. I guess its connected to drying in the sun.

Thank you for your great descriptions of Ukrainian embroidery. I am fascinated by this topic and its use as a language with symbolic meaning.
I tried to find the website you recommended but I'm not sure I found the right one (prekrasa.com ?)
Can anyone provide me with a link? Many thanks
