- Set in 1892, "Hostiles," directed by Scott Cooper, tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale), who after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Rosamund Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche and vicious outliers that they encounter along the way.

Have you ever read a movie review and felt like it completely missed the point (and the magic!) of a film you love? Brie Larson apparently has, and is offering a tangible, achievable solution to these misguided reviews: a more diverse pool of film critics. At the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, Brie spoke about the importance of greater representation in criticism, which would hopefully lead to increased representation in the films themselves.

went to the movie today. I am a 70 years old. after the final scene I lost it and cried like a child. still with me .

One thing that I love with Bale is how he takes his characters VERY seriously. It's almost like he's written it. So many actors are clueless about these things, just saying their lines...

Ammar Z it must be hard to describe a movie that you can’t really “tell all”. And yet, Bale breaks down his character and the other with such detail that without giving anything away, it makes you want to learn more and of course watch the movie.

Wes is a living legend, a genuine Indian, an American who really has SOMETHING to say about American ethics and American art. Christian is perhaps the most talented actor of our times. Rosamund is a GORGEOUS woman. All three gave POWERFUL performances in the film, especially Christian. Being not nominated for a dozen of Oscars, it was a hugely negative impression about this film.

I watched "Hostiles" a few days ago. Is an amazing film. One of the best of 2017 and probably the most underrated. Bale, Pike, and Studi give wonderful perfomances. By the way, the interviewer is very good. Intelligent questions.
One of my favorite scenes from this movie was when Rory Cochrane character (First Sergeant Thomas Metz) went to Chief Yellow Hawks tent and asked for mercy from the treatment they had showed towards the Natives very touching

Just finished Hostiles.. I can't even count the amount of times I went, "ah man.." and then began to weep..
Incredibly talented ensemble. Anything that can bring to the forefront, the immense injustice that has befallen, and still befalls Native Americans, and U.S. soldiers, is quite essential to me.
Mindblowingly wonderful and heartfelt and heartbreaking and redemptive movie with incredible actors! I see Christian is bulking up for his next wonderful movie "Vice"!

Great interview, great Actors. Being a Brit myself I have always loved Christian Bale since his childhood, Wes Studi is a good spokesperson for the native North Americans we all know him and we do listen to him. Rosamund Pike I must confess is new to me so I can't comment only to say I will enjoy watching her on screen when I do see Hostiles.

I saw this movie last week and it was worth waiting for. It is brutal. Not a movie to take any children to. I'm glad they finally faced up to what the American government did to these people in a film. This is not at all your typical Cowboy & Indians story at all! You could not ask for (3) better actors to play the parts in this movie! There are a few brutal things that happened in this movie that were not needed and still bug me as I type this. If you are a student of History this is part of our History and needs to be told and I feel they did a good job in doing so. It is worth seeing without your CHILDREN!

Regardless of weight (next role FYI), Christian provides a truly fascinating insight on the character that clearly shows a deeper side of him we rarely hear about. His perspective on the character really does sink in once you've seen this absolutely MUST SEE movie. I for one am glad he's adopted America as his home, and what makes this the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!

Best movie I've seen lately imo. I love me a good historic movie like this. Shows how violent and just rough life was back then. I realized that there so much mental illness too, basically serial killers walking around everywhere
Of course, 'imo'. lmao! Duh. The mental illness comment is silly, as well. Mental Illness has no time period. Please, define the mental illness you found in this film. Extraordinary, extreme situations may be difficult to put behind and may even change a person's outlook, but that doesn't mean they are mentally ill. I have no doubt in my mind that life is far more complicated now that it was back then, and we have a higher per capita percentage of mental illness in 2019. I do agree that the American western frontier was a playground for bona fide serial killers, though.

I’ve seen this movie twice now and i believe i can be safe to say it’s one of the best movies i’ve seen. Amazing acting, amazing soundtrack and really pulls on your emotions. Fantastic movie.

The interview was very subdued. I understand the movie hadn't come our yet. But this has been one of the first videos, I seen, and I'm 53 years old, that showed a more accurate part of history. Not all us natives were out killing everyone who was in a caravan. It shows the truth that there were just normal human people. Who are just wanting a safe home and a good life. But the mindset has to be during that period.
This film and these three actors were absolutely phenomenal. This has become one of my favorite movies.

I did. He is the ideal 19th Century Military officer, honorable, loyal, skilled and cold and ruthless to the enemy because that's whats expected of him.
He is given orders he does not want to follow and mounts up on a horse and puts himself in great danger to get it done.
Soldiers are tools of the people, they are expected to do the job given to them without care to their feelings about it.

Very talented actress, intelligent. Profound impression of horrific loss of her children. Look in her eyes is haunting. Towards the end of the movie she becomes sympathetic towards the first nation people and discretly shows her affection to the Blocker and to little girl. God's love and forgivness will ultimately conquer the evil spirits around us.

Bale has to be the greatest actor of his generation - all the way from Jim in 'Empire of the Sun' to the Cheney role.
I saw the film and it was brilliant and I appreciated that it was realistic in the period of that time in our history.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- Hostiles may be the third or fourth best Western film ever made. It's right up there with Leone, Peoples, and Portis. Incredible work.

the mutherfucker - His name is Wes Studi and yes he portrayed Magua in 'The Last of the Mohicans'. Also the 'bad Indian' in 'Dances With Wolves' (who got shot to hell n killed). Also portrayed Geronimo. He voiced the tribal leader on the 'Avatar' movie. Probably other roles I'm not aware of, and now this new 'Hostiles' film.
