4K Home Security Camera Review - Lorex System

  • My first look at the Lorex 4K HD NVR Home Security Camera system. The cameras I have are all the POE (power over ethernet) 4K cameras with night vision. They send the video feed and get power all through the ethernet cable alone.
With these systems you are not stuck with all the same camera, you can buy and mix any Lorex Ethernet camera with your system. I would like to try the color night vision and the PTZ (pan tilt zoom) cameras. As well as a camera that supports audio. When I buy them I will make a video on those as well so check out my other videos.

You can also check these out at Costco retail stores (but Costco only has one model on display) or amazon: amzn.to/2Q7boJN

Quick suggestions: Bench test your gear and make sure it works before you install it. Draw a picture of your home and where you want cameras, then prioritize the location on necessity. Focus on entrances/exits. Set to record 24/7 - once the HDD runs out of space, it'll simply write over the old stuff. If running your own cables, use a fiberglass pole (glow rod) to pull cable. Post the security signs/stickers by the entrance to deter people. Swap out strike plate screws on front door with longer 3" screws as it's harder to kick in. Burglars don't like to be seen. Keep lights on at night (garage/front door/back door). Good Luck!

Thank you for a great presentation. I was already sold on the Lorex brand but your testimonial helped seal the deal! Your constructive approach to the pros/ cons is really why I even finished the vid. Like many of the comments, most just troll their emotions and embarrassingly display the fact that they failed to follow instructions, or wanted the product to work in a way it was never intended. Then bash it and act as if an authority on the subject because they spent some money. This is how reviews are supposed to look. Great job and thanks again!

My expensive camera's from VIVINT didn't pick up someone vandalizing my
Mercedes Benz several times but my neighbors across the street capture
it showing the person was less than 10 feet away shooting out my windows
right in front of my VIVINT camera. I showed this t Vivint and the
police but they refuse to give me credit for a system that I thought was
protecting me and my family for last two years. They refuse to come and
pickup their system which don't work and they demanded that we cancel. I
repeatedly asked them would you pay for something that don't work or
continually don't work? To make this right pay for the damages done to
my Mercedes Benz or give me all the money I've paid into this system
thus far. They refused, and stated we can install new updated equipment
free of charge, but they should be offering this to everyone right now
to save face cause this will happen to everyone who has this system. So
i save them a possible lawsuits in the future only to be punished with
upgrading a system I can't trust anymore and they will not backup there
equipment or stand behind there expensive system.

Dont go with Lorex, while their equipment is ok with the exception of their noisy NVR HD's, their customer service and technical help is non-existent. Also Lorex is a Chinese company disguised through a Canadian company. The better option is to go with a US based company. I researched many companies and finally went with Montavue based out of Montana. Their customer service is exemplary and there is plenty of self help RUclips videos for extra help. When it worked, not much issue with the system. But when you have problems.... OMG. 1) Extra hard drive received failed on installation. Lorex has stated 4 different times in the last 3 weeks that I would receive a tracking number for a new hard drive in "24-48 hours". I still have not received it. 2) The Lorex Secure and Lorex Cloud apps do different things. You need both apps to monitor and set up your system wirelessly. And to make it even more confusing, to access the cloud.. you cannot use the Lorex Cloud app. You have to access the cloud through the Lorex Secure app. Huh? 3) Lorex Cloud app- If your phone or device is not connected to a WiFi network, you will not be able to view any cameras. For instance, if your phone is using 4G data only, you will not be able to view your cameras. 4) Unable to install the Windows PC software for my PC by myself. Lorex actually had to "remote in" to complete the software installation. 5) Unable to access the cloud through that PC software. 6) Unable to use the Rapid Recap feature with any app or the PC software. 7) Long wait times for support. 8) After a week, I had a camera that was asking for a username and password. I used my system's username and password, but it would not take it. Tech support helped, but it was obvious that he did not know what he was doing. They "remote in" on my computer, and spent two hours on this issue. I watched in awe as my system went from one camera not working to all cameras not working. He ended up bricking my NVR to where it would not accept any user name and password and told me a new NVR would be sent to me. I have been told twice that a tracking number would be sent in 24-48 hours. I have still not received it and I'm sure I am following the same pattern as the hard drive issue. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences I have had with a company in a long time. I totally regret having made this purchase!

Ya know. I have wireless IP cams..work good but you BETTER have bandwidth! If not your experience will be poor. You hit it on the head. I went that route because all the drilling holes and running cables thru the house of different lengths to one room I found would be difficult, and cables running all thru the home. I was right about that..
But YOUR assessment is 100% true. I went from 100mps Internet speed to 1 gig and it cured some latency and jittery issues..but the offline makes me upset..gotta reset etc.. and if there's motion..the IP cameras sometimes will freeze - you can't have that ..plus you need REAL time footage..even with the FASTEST service at 1G, It's better but not cured. Has all those systems. But I'd say if I do this again it's POE or bust.
Do you ..did you have to get long cable extenders to reach where the setup is located to extend them over the house? I don't have an antic so. . I went WiFi because I didn't want cables everywhere. Any knowledge you share would be helpful.
Tough to hide cables on walls and ceilings.. I can watch a video again last time.. I just didn't want it to look ugly and the IP cams fit

@@Fiya_gamez You can't control the bandwidth on a wireless camera though. You could have the exact same router and camera, and it will vary depending on your location. I don't see what prevents a would-be thief from making a wifi jammer and just cut the feed to all your cameras. At least with a PoE camera, they would physically need to cut the cable, which can be incredibly difficult depending on the set up. With a wifi jammer, the camera wouldn't even have a chance to catch you before getting jammed.

@@joemann7971 joemann so is stealing but we know it doesn't stop anybody. I've since fixed my latency issue..battery backup and house system with cell service. Def not concerned and won't be running cables. If a punk needs thay dam package he can have it. I've had my new system in less than a day and the cops were out last night. Chased a guy down with my pits and picks and shovels in hand. He di NOT get away. He didn't even get close to the door..only to my vehicle..once I lightly unlocked my doors and waited..surprise mfkr! Needless to say my neighbor has cams and saw that fool sacking houses..I saw it too be she was alone. I'm never alone. He got what he had coming and he caught these hands. Police showed up..no issue for and now that I took over the reins of managing my own network even with that many cams online, no latency. Got rid of some.old.gear and upgraded. So I'd say yea.. maybe for some PoE is smooth..but after power is cut...hahaa I have battery backup and a connection fools don't know about. And picks and shovels in case he thinks he's heman. Lol. I'm str8. Maybe if I buy a new.home because it'll be a selling point but my video is now completely studder free. And yes bandwidth..faster speeds, manage your own network if you know how and get the right equipment. Totally subjective but it stopped that fool last night. Everyone is happy.
Bandwidth as I stated before..is the MAXIMUM data transfer period..Internet or network. So again yes..more bandwidth is better..but having up to date equipment on a wifi network is fine if you know how. I got serious when I started managing my own network. That was like a yr ago. Not these days..no latency.. plus if you know how..and you have reduces in place..it's as serious as a someone implying it's not. Maybe in the future but..not now. Im just fine.

I've been using these for about 4 years now. The biggest problem I have is the camera RJ-45 connection to the cable. They are not very water proof. Water gets in all the time and shorts out the connection. I've been wrapping them with cling wrap and then wrapping with black electrical tape. This seems to do the trick. Oh, opening a support case is rough. You have to fill in a lot of details before it will let you even submit the ticket. Good luck with that.

My biggest complaint and concern is the phone app. Navigating is a pain and not dependable. It would be nice if they had a simple mode similar to Nest. When I need to navigate quickly my Lorex will lock up, pause in areas, loop, etc. I can easily scroll through footage on my Nest but on my Lorex I have to be extremely gentle or video will bounce all over the place. Simply put I have two Lorex systems and love the video quality but still use and rely on my Nest 95% of the time. My advise to Lorex is to clean up the app and program to make it simple and easy to use as well as dependable. I''ve had my lorex for over a year and still can't figure things out.

You may want to enclose you recorder in a steal box so it can’t be removed by someone who breaks into your house.
