4K Home Security Camera Review - Lorex System

  • My first look at the Lorex 4K HD NVR Home Security Camera system. The cameras I have are all the POE (power over ethernet) 4K cameras with night vision. They send the video feed and get power all through the ethernet cable alone.
With these systems you are not stuck with all the same camera, you can buy and mix any Lorex Ethernet camera with your system. I would like to try the color night vision and the PTZ (pan tilt zoom) cameras. As well as a camera that supports audio. When I buy them I will make a video on those as well so check out my other videos.
    Lorex website: www.lorextechnology.com/
You can also check these out at Costco retail stores (but Costco only has one model on display) or amazon: amzn.to/2Q7boJN

Thank you for a great presentation. I was already sold on the Lorex brand but your testimonial helped seal the deal! Your constructive approach to the pros/ cons is really why I even finished the vid. Like many of the comments, most just troll their emotions and embarrassingly display the fact that they failed to follow instructions, or wanted the product to work in a way it was never intended. Then bash it and act as if an authority on the subject because they spent some money. This is how reviews are supposed to look. Great job and thanks again!

Quick suggestions: Bench test your gear and make sure it works before you install it. Draw a picture of your home and where you want cameras, then prioritize the location on necessity. Focus on entrances/exits. Set to record 24/7 - once the HDD runs out of space, it'll simply write over the old stuff. If running your own cables, use a fiberglass pole (glow rod) to pull cable. Post the security signs/stickers by the entrance to deter people. Swap out strike plate screws on front door with longer 3" screws as it's harder to kick in. Burglars don't like to be seen. Keep lights on at night (garage/front door/back door). Good Luck!

That looks like a nice system. I have a ZOSI 720p IP 8-camera setup, which seems to work quite nicely. It's much cheaper since it's only 720p. I wish I could run cables, but it's impossible for all corners for my house.
I'd be happy if the system lasts 3 years. Here's what I want for my next system:
    1. 4K 8-10 camera setup
    2. Reliable IP connection for 100 feet
    3. 6+ month battery for the cameras
    4. Under $1000

@ 7:00 CBR = Constant Bitrate VBR = Variable Bitrate, CBR is choosing one solid bitrate for the video to be recorded in, where as VBR allows you to choose a low point and a high point in bitrates, so that you can maintain higher quality under different circumstances if there is more things happening in the video.

My expensive camera's from VIVINT didn't pick up someone vandalizing my
Mercedes Benz several times but my neighbors across the street capture
it showing the person was less than 10 feet away shooting out my windows
right in front of my VIVINT camera. I showed this t Vivint and the
police but they refuse to give me credit for a system that I thought was
protecting me and my family for last two years. They refuse to come and
pickup their system which don't work and they demanded that we cancel. I
repeatedly asked them would you pay for something that don't work or
continually don't work? To make this right pay for the damages done to
my Mercedes Benz or give me all the money I've paid into this system
thus far. They refused, and stated we can install new updated equipment
free of charge, but they should be offering this to everyone right now
to save face cause this will happen to everyone who has this system. So
i save them a possible lawsuits in the future only to be punished with
upgrading a system I can't trust anymore and they will not backup there
equipment or stand behind there expensive system.

I am an IT engineer and I wish I could just use a separate PC run BSD or Linux with iptables/netfilters or whatever and voila I will have a free firewall. But no, that's not really possible either. :-(

I do not know about Verizon FIOS but I know years back I made my own server and somehow managed to make it work from outside with some kind of dynamic dns. But that was my last experience with firewalls or opening ports. Totally forgot how to do that nowadays... I quickly read that today, routers have "UPnP" which opens ports automatically.
I was wondering because Adam said he can access it from outside his home, but he doesn't need to pay a subscription. So I was wondering if Lorex was giving a free "link/connection", which also means that Lorex's machine is connected to their server 24/7, and they can access data about the cameras at any time (at least their status if they are on or off at the minimum, but I saw they notify Adam when a suspect activity is detected somehow).
I don't mind installing video surveillance in my kitchen, but I will really triple search how to not make it leak out of my own usage. Yes I do walk naked in my own kitchen :)

I am interested in a 4k camera system. I did a little research and it seams that lorex has a bad as it gets customer service record Does anyone know of a system at a good price with a good customer service record. I am glad I did some research or I would have a lorex system. RUclips videos almost had me convinced to buy a lorex.

very helpful videos, thank you! trying to setup CCTV's for a customer on his entire shop which is super huge, im thinking about this POE Cameras, challenge is i won't be able to run those ethernet cables across one building to another, so im thinking i will need to get 3 separate sets of cameras and DVRs, my question is if i have 3 DVR's can it all be on the same app and account?
basically this is what the setup i am thinking i will go to
3 Lorex POE Systems for 3 Buildings
Orbi 970 Network Mesh to be able to give Internet connection to each 3 DVRs so the customer can always access it on his phone or PC
    thank you in advance!

Hi Adam how is your system doing now? I have a video system now but it looses connection after about 16 hours and I believe it is software based. I have a reliable POE switch. About my problems it is software based. If I put it in continuous recording mode all works great but I only want to record the alarms to save disk space. I use the Asustor software. Funny it worked fine until I upgraded the software. If you feel your system is still good I will give it a try.

Hi Adam, I am wondering if Lorex would be compatible with Samsung SmartThings. I heard smartthings is an open source. Do you know a way to connect this two systems?

Adam: Appreciate your excellent review. Now, 18 months later, any new thoughts? Thanks. My only question: how much cold/frost can the cameras handle?
