Hey Man, great video! At first I thought 25 minutes would be way too long with useless rambling which is common on RUclips. I skimmed it first, but found so many valuable nuggets in here I watched the whole thing again. Thanks a ton! You sealed my decision to proceed with Lorex.

Why aren't there any night vision pictures? That really determines the quality of the cameras since that is always the most difficult to capture.

Thanks GadgetryTech!! This is by far the best detailed video review on the Lorex 4k system that I've come across in 18 months. I keep going back & forth btwn wireless cloud cameras wyze, reolink, Tend which saves the free recordings on the cloud & this wired system which has the poe & high resolution . So I asked the following question with the highest respect. How do u or Lorex address the possibility of an intruder stealing the NVR to cover their tracks? I saw the comment below about using FTP to back up recordings but sounds kinda difficult even for an average computer savvy guy like me. I do have a usb network storage drive connected to my home router but the bad guys could find that too. I read about folks hiding the NVR in the house somewhere... etc... I like to hear about ur opinion or solution to this dilemma? Thanks in advance.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  4 года назад

Thanks for the kind words! This is a tough one to answer because it often comes down to where you can place things in your home. FTP backups can be challenging to set up and naturally cost a bit more because you need a computer or NAS (network attached storage system) that supports the connection. Usually it's best to hide/disguise your NVR when possible. Depending on where it goes, you could always make a custom "cage" or use a couple brackets to secure the NVR somewhere if you really want to lock it down. Most thieves look for quick in and out situations. If you slow down the process or make it too inconvenient to steal the NVR, I'd image it gets left where it is.

Really wanted to LOVE this system.
Costco had the 8 camera package version of this for $650.
I had it for 3 days during which time I had to contact Lorex tech support each day for various problems.
The last two times their response was just that I needed to do a factory reset to get it working again.
Even if I backed up the system configuration to a usb stick, importing that configuration did not restore the settings completely.
So after wasting many hours on trying to get this installed and working, back it went to Costco for a full refund.

With my Lorex DVR I turned off my alert notice being I was getting too many false alerts. At times it tells me that someone is in my locked garage when no one was there, maybe it picks up ghost. Last night it alerted me that someone was on my deck, it turned out to be a cat. Sometimes it thinks a person is a car. BTW if you want good night vision in color, get a motion advanced light or leave a light on.

Hi, thanks for the reviews. I just got a Lorex N841AB2-8AB4-E from Best Buy. Eight channel w/ four deterrence cameras. May be the same system you have.
Unboxed it, set it all up and turned it on. Everything works just fine.
BUT, I touched the cameras after they'd been on for about 30 minutes and all four of them were hot. I'm not talking warm, I'm talking close to uncomfortably hot! The kind of heat that kills electronics. Is this normal? I called tech support and after trying to make the script reader understand what my concern was, he just told me it was normal because there is power in there...! Really, who would have thought?
So, I'm putting the question out to the folks on this video, are camera temperatures in excess of 107 deg F "normal". BTW, 107 is the max that my digital fever thermometer will register.
    Thanks.

Lots of people on the Google Play store have major complaints on the lack of functionality with the Lorex app. They claim there's a "network error" message, multiple users can't be signed on to system at same time, video playback doesn't work, or fails to alert activity.
Have you experienced these problems or are these bugs fixed? Sounds like a dealbreaker if these problems persist.

Update: In order to allow multiple authorized users and avoid having to sign back in or get booted out every time the administrator user uses the Lorex app., other authorized users can register in the Lorex app. creating their own account. Once that new account is established, the administrator account can then add other authorized users to their account to avoid having authorized users to sign back in or get booted within the Lorex app. Hope that helps.

You can ad 8 additional wifi cameras such as a doorbell camera, in home cameras, flood lights, sensors, etc. They all have to be Lorex brand and have wifi fusion capabilities. The cool thing is that they can be controlled through the NVR system at the same time. This is the power of fusion

I don't know if you work for Lorex or not, but your presentation was very well done and extremely helpful. I noted you had prewires done for your home (new build?) We had same done and are considering a Lorex PoE system as well (which is what led me to your video.)
Did you find that you had to use the included cables given that you had prewiring done, or did you only use the prewires?
Also, I presume the prewires all run to a network hub/closet centrally located somewhere in your home (ours is in the master bedroom.) Were you able to locate the NVR someplace else in your home, or did you have to put it near your network hub/closet?
Thank you so much for your excellent video!

@@GadgetryTech so there's a protection plan for the set for 90 dollars for 4 years? Do you think that's needed? Don't want to spend extra money if not needed.

Can you do a video of adding an RTSP Stream in to the Lorex, not sure if the Lorex Smart 4k NVR Security supports other camera feeds. I have some older cameras that I can RTSP stream to VLC with no issues. And want to find out if Lorex system will support custom Camera input feeds

Great review. Where did you buy the rubber plates. I’m thinking of doing the installation myself on my setup. Just curious, did you run your cables inside the walls and attic? Is the cat5e ok to use or do you suggest using cat6? TIA

This is a very good review. Thank you so much. As another viewer commented, it looks like the mobile app users are not happy. Looking at Google PlayStore, people complained about slow video loading, and multiple users cannot connect. Is it possible for you to let use know your experience as far as these issues are concerned.

Sorry for the delayed response. The video load speed is pretty decent, but I have a fast wifi connection on a Galaxy S9+. Perhaps some are limited by their wireless speeds? In HD mode it can certainly take longer, but you can toggle the live view to SD mode which really improves the load time. The multiple users thing is poorly explained in the app (if at all). The correct way to do it is to have everyone created their own Lorex account. Then, the primary account owner can share this camera system with them by adding their email address. The recipient needs to have a Lorex account with email created first, then you share your home system with them for it to work. From there, multiple people can view the same system without logging in or out all the time.

Thanks for the video. Not sure if this has been answered but does this system work with Apple TV and/or Amazon Firestick? I know Apple TV has Lorex Home app but would be a plus if you can pull up the feed on a TV that isnt located next to the NVR or connected to the NVR via hdmi. Thanks in advance!

Correct. Your mobile app may not work properly but it the unit itself will work and send the video out via HDMI to a monitor or TV.

Hi Shirley. I had my house prewired for surveillance and that's what they used to seal the plates. I would think you could find it at a place like Home Depot or Lowes but I haven't had to look for more of them (yet).

I wanted to know what happens when the 2TB of storage runs out
Or is it that the videos are discarded automatically after a certain period of time to make more space on the hardrive?

Very nice video. Thanks. I have 3 questions.
    1) How many seconds before the event it starts recording video? (I am currently using Arlo and with charging cable, it starts recording videos about 4-5 seconds before the event which gives better understanding of how the event started occurring)
    2) How far it recognizes the motion activity?
    3) It would have been nice to see the installation of camera and NVR setup as many come to watch this video as first time Lorex buyers, like myself :)

Nice video, thanks. I currently have a 5 year old Swann system and am going to change out to Lorex. My question is, can I use some of the 1080p Swann cameras with the Lorex system to help fill out my coverage without buying all Lorex cameras or is each brand proprietary to itself?
