- Gravelfoyle - Finally!
Today I visit the hallowed trails of Aberfoyle and undertake the 2021 edition of the Dukes Weekender Enduro event. This 72km route comprises 6 timed stages and promises to be an epic day out.
A slightly different video to normal, in so much as I didn't stop to think about the filming aspect of the ride - I was in the mood to just blast around it. Hopefully, you get the feel for the event and the area as a whole from this longer than expected film - there was just so much I wanted to show!

Hi Rusty. Just discovered your channel. I'm also big into gravel, and recently spent a few rides around Aberfoyle, which I absolutely loved.Very interested with some of your routes- Glen Finglas looks a real definite. - and looking forward to your next video. Thanks. 😊
Great to have you along for the ride!
What width tires would you recommend for the event?
Hi, most of the route is wide forest track with sections of single track or road depending on how they plan it for the event each year. My 700x40c tyres had no issue. You could probably get away with 38s or 36s but some sections might be rough.
Well done on stage 3, so tough for grip. What time did you set off? You seemed to miss all the queues.
Yeah that was a slippery beast that climb! I was in the "9:20" wave, so think it was about 9.30 when I set off. How did you get on?
@@RustyRidesGravel Yeah was good we left at 9:50, closer to 10am and stage 2 was halted as an unauthorised rider on track, nearly had another too. Stage 3 we had a lot of queues too but that was just the slowness of the stage.
I was 55th out of 93 I think in my group, not too bad. It was a great event and like you say I loved the mix of timed stages plus the non timed.
I am running WTB byways, so the have a very slick middle band, I slipped out on stage 3 but was glad of them on the road section in to Aberfoyle again.
