Good to see you out and about again Rusty - glad you walked down there as well as me! Don’t take this the wrong way but just a note it wasn’t a “pump house’ the water is gravity fed down the way it was built by the Victorian’s as a “Valve House” I love the proportions and care they took building it, below it is an infilled aqueduct not a disused dam. - it’s amazing to come across a building like that in the middle of the woods as you cycle across the aqueduct Looking forward to more adventure videos from you
Missed you Rusty , that chirpy personality you have. My favourite uk gravel bike adventurer , boy your brave , when you go exploring you like a carlsberg... Probably the Best in this world ha ha. Great your okies and back to kindly share these awesome adventures of yours.
Braw - he's back! Have so missed the patter and scenery. Was getting worried and was thinking of trying to get in touch to see how you were. best laid plans and all that.
Good to see you back Rusty, you inspired us to do a lot of rides and to start recording them, not at your dedicated and professional level I must add. 😁. Look forward to seeing your next ride.
What a beautiful place to ride, great video and editing. I can't begin to imagine how long all that takes to do but very worth it and great job. I'm off to Aberfoyle in a couple of weeks for 5 days - can't wait.
Knew you’d be back at sone point and not surprised you got burnout. For me it’s life that gets in the way haven’t been out on either road or gravel just MTB and like you have loads of route I want to do just not locally. Also even though we all enjoy your content make sure you get out without the gear now and again and enjoy the ride🚴🏻♂️
Great to see you back. Your videos were greatly missed in our household. Love your videos. They are so informative and the ariel shots are fantastic. Keep riding and many thanks for taking the time and effort to share you cycling adventures.
As a 70 yr old with a 7 year old electric hard tail mtb due to arthritic knees I know I can tackle the rides you do with confidence as you're not (yet!) FS and you pace the ride for maximum enjoyment not dare devil antics at break neck descent speeds. You're a great inspiration, thanks! 😊
Welcome back buddy. I got myself a new gravel bike for this season. Just picked up yesterday. Looking forward to getting back out after six months of mountain biking. Catch you on the trails 👍
@@RustyRidesGravel i have 42s now and it seems like theres a bit of slack, and the Hs have almost no thread, Also my bike is an L size. ill report back when they arrive :D
@@RustyRidesGravel so i already put em IN. 45s cinturato H. Still with loads of slack in rear. They do not actually seem larger after installing than my wtb resolute 42s.
Love this channel great to see you back. Your caution on route is well founded just celebrated my third decade in the MTB saddle and have a snapped hip for each one of them so easily done
Welcome back Rusty. As much as I enjoy your content I hope you continue to prioritize your health and love of riding. Thanks for this fantastic route…except for the hike a bike section it looks wonderful.
Nice to see you back 🙂As with most regular viewers, I did wonder that had happened to you. You don't owe us any explanations (or anything else), but it's good to get a sense of the reasons behind it - certainly to hear that nothing (too) bad happened! I'm always amazed that people with "real" jobs find the time and energy to run a RUclips cycling channel, as it seems to me to be a lot of work. It's hard enough with all the other distractions in life just to get out and do the cycling itself, so I'm very grateful for the content you do put out. I enjoy the scenic footage you produce 🙂
Nice to see you back. I'm a mountain biker but enjoy the videos of the rougher (gravel/MTB cross over territory) and very scenic gravel rides, inspired by your video to do Daer Reservoir loop on a few days MTB trip last September and planning to do some more up there this summer. I can imagine RUclips production can get frustrating, good content should be rewarded not clickbait titles that are a stretch from the actual content, and don't get me started on deliberate spelling mistakes, arrgghh! Do it because you enjoy it and know that you inspire.
Glad to see you back out - just picked up my first gravel bike and your channel has been an inspiration. I ordered one with a dropper post so hopefully those descents you mentioned will be a little less hairy.
@@RustyRidesGravel I am curious how you manage to animate your chosen route in your videos. Is that some sort of Komoot plug-in for your editor or is it all manual work using key frames?
Good to see you back on the Bianchi 👌😎 nice route by the looks of it too. A suggestion for somewhere to go next. Get yourself down to Gatehouse of Fleet and sample some of the awesome Galloway gravel 👌😁
Great to see ya back out there Rusty, that’s a route on my radar too As for the tyres - I had a set and found them to wear VERY fast so be interesting to see how they last with your efforts
@@RustyRidesGravel sorry my previous tyre was the smooth tread ( H ) compound which was mega fast on hard packed surface but offer little grip on wet or loose gravel so I have switched to Cinturato Gravel RC X and they seem to have a better wear rate
Did the trail over from Comer to Cailness 25 years ago with a friend. He warned me that there was a nutjob living at Comer who would sally forth and threaten anyone on a bike with threats of all sorts. The day we did it, we had no encounter with this person but I know a guy who he threatened to shoot by "accident", as he shot deer in the vicinity on a regular basis. He is most likely dead by now, thank goodness. The property at Cailness is now falling into dissrepair, the estate seems to be unwilling to spend the cash needed to maintain it. Recently I had to take shelter in one of the outbuildings, when on a canoe trip, due to mental wind and rain. Yes the trail down to Cailness is being destroyed by lack of use and water damage due to lack of maintainence. More MTB traffic is required on this trail, it will help keep it in manageable condition.
I spent a lot of time debating which way to ride around. I chose this way purely for the video aspect and the filming of the switchbacks. But if you don't mind the walk up from Loch Lomond, then it might just be better anti-clockwise.
I like the tread pattern on those tyers. 🇨🇦 Visiting here near Loch Lomond, and on the lookout for routes to ride. Found a few, thanks!😁👍
It's good to have you back.
So chuffed you’re back. RUclips is a better place with you in it. Smashed it out the park with the video btw 👍
Ben Lomond is a great munro for a MTB descent. Hike a bike up mostly though!

Great to see you back!
I was worried that something unpleasant had befallen you by the way you suddenly disappeared!
It accidentally escalated into a longer than expected break!
Great to see you back, another fantastic route and inspirational as always, looking forward to more videos 😀
Good to see you back out. 👍🏻
Great to see you back.
Welcome back!
Thank you!
A great comeback Rusty - fantastic route, informative commentary and bags of enthusiasm. You should take a 1 year break more often. Just kidding.
The way this weather is going, it looks like I am on another extended filming break!!
Hey rusty! I was on the fence on buying an arcadex and your videos helped me decide. I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see you back on it :D
I'm glad you like the bike!!
@@RustyRidesGravel what size are the new tyres you got? i ordered 45s cinturato Hs and am worrying the wont fit

@@RustyRidesGravel I am curious how you manage to animate your chosen route in your videos. Is that some sort of Komoot plug-in for your editor or is it all manual work using key frames?
It's done in the video editing software. I "paint" over the route and use key frames to animate the line appearing over the image.
Nice surprise to see this pop up in my feed - welcome back!

wb looking forward to see new vid's
Thank you! Any recommendations for where I should go next? Got too much to choose from I don't know where to start!
Welcome back young man.
Great route, have done it on my mtb. Wouldn’t want to do the path down to Loch Lomond on a gravel bike!!😮😅

Zig zags are pretty difficult on a gravel bike. Did them in May this year. Wishing I had the MTB for them.
Thanks
Great video, thanks. Better with a suspension bike. Straight rigid forks no use.
I've just discovered your channel , great video , Could you suggest routes with no Hike a bike at 61 I really don't fancy it lol .
Haha! I am also not a fan of hike a bike, but sometimes i get it wrong and find myself slogging away. I guess I do it so you don't have to 👍
Great to see you back. What wheels are you using
Hey, they are Bontrager Aeolus pro 3V. I got them fitted when I bought the bike because there was a 3 year warrenty on them if anything broke.

That's an amazing backstory to the area. I love hearing what people have experienced in these areas. Thank you.
Nobody living on Comer estate now , it's all deer fenced and being rewilded.
Rusty, do you think the ride would be better in reverse?

Thanks I might give it a try, then it looks mostly downhill after the walk up.
@@BigAbs-s5n It is a long downhill all the way back to Aberfoyle depending on what way you go.

Good to see you back, but perhaps you should just go out for the odd ride without the camera and rediscover the enjoyment of just riding.
That's the plan!
