Airbus A380 CROSSWIND Difficulties - Storm "Axel"

- Yesterday storm "Axel" passed Germany and the pilots who tried to land at Düsseldorf had to deal with strong crosswinds from North - West. Wind speeds up to 45 knots interrupted the normal approach procedure of a few pilots. Check out the rudder work of the Airbus A380 landing at the beginning. Once again the pilots did a great job landing their planes during difficult wind situations. The second plane, a Sun Express Boeing 737-800 was so far away from the perfect runway allignment that I thought the pilots would go around. This is my fifth crosswind video, uploaded exactly five years after my first one.

Gestern ist mal wieder ein Sturm über Deutschland gefegt und hat bei den Piloten für ein paar Probleme beim Landeanflug gesorgt. Besonders auffällig war dabei mal wieder der massive A380, bei dem kurz vor der Landung mit dem Heckruder gearbeitet wurde. Es sit sowieso immer wieder impressiv diesen Wal bei der Landung zur beobachten, bei Seitenwinden ist es allerdings noch spekakulärer.

La tormenta de ayer "Axel" pasó a Alemania y los pilotos que intentaron aterrizar en Düsseldorf tuvieron que lidiar con fuertes vientos cruzados desde el noroeste. Vientos de hasta 45 nudos interrumpieron el procedimiento de aproximación normal de algunos pilotos. Compruebe el trabajo del timón del aterrizaje del Airbus A380 al principio. Velocidades de vento de até 45 nós interromperam o procedimento de aproximação normal de alguns pilotos. Confira o trabalho de leme do A380 Airbus pouso no início. Mais uma vez os pilotos fizeram um grande trabalho pousando seus aviões em situações de vento difícil. O segundo avião, um Sun Express Boeing 737-800 estava tão longe da alinhamento de pista perfeita que eu pensei que os pilotos iriam dar a volta. Este é o meu quinto vídeo de vento cruzado, carregado exatamente cinco anos após o meu primeiro.

I so enjoy these views looking directly down the runway. It does show the crosswinds very well. You have another great set of catches here. I liked the smart livery of Iraqi Airways, the Flybe Dash 8 takeoff and of course the Emirates A380 at the start. Great job.

These are some situations that justify why pilots are held in high esteem. How difficult it must be to hold a 50 tons or more object with hundreds of lives steady within 3 to 5 meters accuracy at 250 KMs per hour speed through those cross winds! More than that, how difficult it must be hold one's own nerve while doing that!! Salutations.

Canadian Plane Spotter I watched some video a few years ago where a guy had Cessna out on a property. The wind was pretty strong so he took of and turned into the wind. The wind was strong enough to keep the plane in the air without moving forwards or backwards. Was so majestic!

The pilots of the A380 were faced by gusting winds during flaring shortly before touchdown. So that's why they gave a good input to the rudder. As one can see the landing technique is "crab"...Nevertheless all pilots made a more or less good crosswind landing. I suggest, the A319-Air Berlin and the Flybe Embraer were flaring too long...great video!
why did only the lower ruder move on the a380?
On the one hand, this one is called "split rudder", for safety reasons, so you will have a redundancy. On the other hand, you have a better speed control by this one. I'm sure, the lower split rudder helps the pilot to control his aircraft better during crab shortly before touchdown and strong crosswinds at lower speed. It has a better "lever action" concerning this configuration...

I'm sure they work unison as well as independently. This fact depends from all inputs made and, of course, the weather conditions, especially winds. The main computer will decide how it goes ;-)
I guess that's to be expected from such a sophisticated aircraft

Ich hätte mal eine Frage : Wieso landen die Flugzeuge immer schräg im Anflug, erst kurz vor dem Touchdown ziehen die Piloten die Maschine wieder gerade ? Danke für die Info.
Die Landung erfolgt bevorzugt gegen den Wind, weil das den stärksten Auftrieb ermöglicht. Dazu wird die Längs-Achse der Maschine möglichst parallel in die von vorne zuströmende Luftmasse bzw. Windrichtung gestellt. Das ändert sich erst nach Bodenkontakt der hinteren Fahrgestelle.

which equipment do you use?
Great landings. Captivating. I'm assuming pilots have a computer that will take the wind direction and desired flight path, and then output the correct heading for the aircraft?

I never noticed they had three mains. I always imagine large a/c with two sets on each side.
Three sets of wheels. Many years ago, I did a number of flights with THAI in A340-600 from Australia to Bangkok. THAI replaced them with B777-200ER. Must nicer plane. More head room, and, 30 minutes faster on the Melbourne to Bangkok flights
