2023 UPDATE! I have a new CMF file to accommodate the latest firmware (1.0.5.1). The buttons are all the same as featured in this video, but some menu defaults changed. Eye tracking, which was just added, now defaults to on. I also caught some small mistakes like having my initials in the metadata settings. Sorry that when shooting XF-AVC all your files have had EW in the name! www.ericwalkervideo.com/free-downloads
I’m still over here waiting for Canon to add S&F/WAV to assignable buttons. I’m filming sports so my #12 button switches me from 24 to 120fps but I almost always need/want the audio recorded too. I added it to my main quick settings menu, but it’s still not nearly quick enough hahaha I also always have to drop an ND, so I’d love to automate that when I switch to 120.

Noticed that you have a limiter on your audio. May I ask why? 😊
haha, i never realized you could use either scroll wheel to move through menus and always defaulted to the control stick... Which has been frusterating at times, but easy enough to use overall, also, super fast to jumpe menue categories with :)
After a few shoots of me bemoaning wandering white balance, finding nothing online trying to figure out the culprit.... Backscroll wheel - set to white balance mode and knocking it while hand held! Some difficult colour correction for my mistakes.
I do like your Audio Channels re-routing. It's a shame we can't (I'll have to check myself) route 1 and 2 for boom and safety boom, 3 for lav, 4 for in-camera mic scratch (or run a small on-camera external mic into CH 4 via the 3.5mm jack) - If I could do that I'd almost never change the routing.... actually, I would for different scenarios, but this is a nice tweak to what I already do for sure. Nice tip Eric, thanks :-)
I like it in my custom menus like Eric, but nothing else lives in that Tab (for safety). I can def see someone wiping a card by mistake on a sunny day running and gunning where they overshoot their menu selection and don't click as to what they just did and hit execute. There's two steps to initialise the cards anyway, but I've met shooters that have done worse (I've met some nuffies for sure haha)
@@vladimirtalijan Yes I dual record. Formatting cards is about as serious as it gets so I don't see any advantage to making it easier. I've seen someone format cards mid-shoot out of habit when they meant to do something else.

Thank you for your fantastic C70 videos - they have been a genuine help for me trying to master this camera. I am however having som issues with streaming with the C70 - do you have any experience with that, and if so can you please share your best streaming settings for the C70? I find the image from the C70 (1920x1080 via the HDMI port) to be heavily compressed and nothing close to the cleaner quality the camera produces when recording 1920x1080 on a SD card.
Awaiting delivery of a C70 and in the mean time I found out that the C70 is not supported in the Canon Webcam Utility software.... Do you use a capture card to stream or what? :)
Hi Eric, thank you for your videos that just helped me a lot to set my C70 up again after updated the firmware. There is just a last thing I can't figure out and you can maybe help me to find it. I am looking to set up the focus helper (the three small triangles) while manual focusing. They disappear from the LCD after updating the firmware and I don't find how to show them back on my screen... Thank you very much ! Dorian
I just invested in a canon C70 and came across your channel which has helped me out immensely. So thank you. I really like how you show your mistakes and tell us how to correct them. With your style of videos i think youll have 100k subs in no time. Im looking forward to seeing more videos. Cheers from Australia!!!
How is the autofocus performance with the Sigma primes? I've noticed that my Sigma Art 18-35 is considerably less responsive than my Canon lenses on my C300MKIII. Would consider switching to Sigma primes if the autofocus is up to snuff.
That's hard to say because I feel like I'm never satisfied with the C70 auto-focus. What I can confidently say is the sigma primes are LOUD when using autofocus.
Curious if this is still compatible with the update we got in December? I tried to re upload it to my c70 after I did the update and my camera wont recognize the file? Any advice?
Great video! I got this camera a year ago, and I love it! I also acquired a set of Meike Cinema lenses (PL) T2.1. The adaptor that I’m using has a slight problem with focus. I am getting “soft” footage, even with the peaking function enabled. Any recommendations? What is the best adapter, or how can I fix this. Thanks!
Love all of this. Might have to play with the AF priority settings you have. Personally, I use a SmallHD monitor about 90% of the time when I am shooting, and I prefer the focus assist on it better. So I changed peaking to false color on the LCD only, and have it turned on most of the time, so I can always reference where my exposure is.
Can you please keep making this type of video as you continue updating your setup? This is hands-down one of my favourite channels because of how detailed you explain things. Love the content!
nice:) I have a c70 as all and am just wondering how come the focus peaking on the c70 is different than the one on other canon cameras. The peaking on the c70 is so strong and it will sometime tints your monitor red in dimly lit scene.
Dumb question - if I use your CMF file and want to return back to previous, how does one do that? Or can I just create a second CMF file and toggle between yours and mine? thx, ben
Thanks Eric - you are my go to channel for the C70 - I film wildlife & the majority of the time I’ll be manually focusing. I use a Zacuto Z finder on the flip out screen & a Ninja v monitor - I can’t seem to find a clean HDMI output setting for the monitor so I’m constantly switching off the cameras display to get my settings off the ninja - I’m probably just missing it in the menus but does a clean HDMI exist on the C70? Any help would be greatly appreciated, keep up the great content 👏👏
I found out it’s sometimes necessary to read the user manual!🤣 Page 129 - MENU [Monitoring Setup] > [OSD Output: HDMI] > [Off] So now I use the LCD for the camera settings & the Ninjas tools on that screen & able to record on both. Now all I need to do is program a button to switch the OSD HDMI on or off if I need to check the camera settings on the Ninja. I use telephoto lenses the majority of time so use a remote LANC - I just need to work out how to trigger record on both camera & Ninja with one push of the lanc button … I’m sure it can be done!🤞🤣
Oh man, first 5 mins of a shoot with that back scroll wheel not disabled was a nightmare! You def need to dive into the menu to disable - sorry I don't immediately recall where it was, but pretty sure in the button assignment area.
Love your videos! How do you set the focus guide to be on during manual focus only? When I turn it on in the settings it's on during autofocus as well. Thanks!

i can't figure how to put on the focus guide with a manual focus lens... can. you help ?
Just come back here after getting my C70 back from service with everything I'd assigned wiped! Ha. I dropped it off a tripod I was carrying.
Super cool quick tips! Just purchased a C70 so your videos are really helping. THXXX.

How do I load the CMF file in my canon c70?
I strongly disagree with adding initialize media to the custom menu. It’s much safer to have it tucked away in a harder to find area.

do you know if I can set a c70 to ntsc standard?

@@SoundItOutFilms do you feel like the autofocus performance has improved with the new eye detection?

I usually have issues with peaking that almost the whole screen 'peaks' red.
Same! What are the best settings for peaking in your experience, Eric?

Think you could assign headphone volume to the scroll dial wheel that you disabled? That would be handy!
Love that idea!
@@SoundItOutFilms just put a small piece of cloth tape over it though so it's not too easily wound when you don't want it to right.

Don't think you can save multiple to the camera but you can always create your own as a backup to return to.
Looking forward to hearing about the tour soon, Eric! 🙂
I loaded your CMF file but button 7 is the AF Lock, not button 8.
Whoops! I forgot to change that in my script. I did decide to switch 7&8 in the middle of making the video.
At risk of being known as a moron, but how do I load this file into my c70?
Drop CMF file on SD card (folder structure included), add card to SD slot B on camera, then in the menu go to the wrench page & select Transfer Menu!
