    Many thanks for posting this really helpful video. I set about drilling my bolts out today and I am glad to report it all went well. I would add that if you are going to try this then try and keep your drill bits as central as possible. I went a bit pissed on mine and caught the wheels thread slightly, not a huge problem but best avoided if you can. I used a 6mm cobalt bit followed by an 8mm cobalt bit and drilled slowly with lots of pressure and the drills bit in lovely and steady. Dont go high speed as the drill doesn't bite into the metal as well. One difference from the video is I offered an Allen key up to the 8mm hole and tapped it into the hole with a few taps of the club hammer. I then got a bar on the key and applied some leverage, I was fearing the key would snap or bend but to my great relief out came the bolt. Just got to get a set of non-locking Peugot bolts now. Thanks again for the video, saved me a lot of grief and got my Mrs back on the road. Top man!!

    Thanks for this post - it gave me the confidence to use this technique, when all the garages I talked to about my problem wanted to weld another bolt on to the stuck one, thus trashing the wheel. I bought a set of Teng extractors from FFX, who offered overnight delivery. Excellent firm. I was much more cautious than you when drilling, not wanting to break a bit off in the bolt. But you had no problems, so perhaps I was being a wimp. Anyway, job done. Like you, I curse the tyre fitters who overtightened the wheel bolts - but I also curse Peugeot-Citroen, for a bolt design that is truly crap. My car is actually a Toyota Proace Verso, but they're all made on the same line. I have removed all these security bolts and fitted standard ones, and I recommend anyone who has a key relying on four little lugs unevenly spaced around a circular key to do the same.

    I've binned my locking nuts and the stupid caps that cover the wheel nuts and replaced them with proper lug nuts saves time and money and all the facing about every time you need to change a wheel .

    Got the same locking wheel nuts on mine, tried welding nuts on but they just don’t seem to be grabbing for some reason and keep snapping back off, might have to try drilling. I’m close to just cutting the wheels off at this point lol

    Bought some Cobalt Drill bits as normal HSS bits kept blunting and followed the steps on your video for removal of nuts. Got two of the nuts to shear off. Unfortunately the Cobalt drill bits are no good. Now I'm stuck. However hard I push the drill bit into the nut it makes no progress in making a hole. If your passing the North East sometime next week pop in and take my nuts off.

      These are the extractors that were modified by grinding down the ends. Therefore making them square and less tapered. For best results the extractor shouldn't be tapered. The best ones are the Snap-on ones that are not tapered. Sadly they are only available in America.

      Slight damage to the alloys around the area but worth it. If they are on super tight then be careful using the cheaper extractors, as they can break! Sadly you will need to go to a garage at that point!

  • @davidk3729
    @davidk3729 6 лет назад +3

    Same on Citroen C5. ATS (there are other grease monkey companies who also don't have a clue) overtightened so much it stretched the bolt. Locked solid so the security head broke off. Had to buy expensive tungsten drill bits from Screwfix and spend all afternoon drilling from small to large. Now I have the same job to do on son's old Jaguar. Even worse as the cowboy who overtightened it tried to weld a nut on top and it's now got a rusty scab on top. How do I puunch a centre hole on that? Get rid of all your security bolts and replace with standard-about £2 each from breakers yard.

    • @davidk3729
      @davidk3729 4 года назад

      Gawd, is it two years since I posted that. Now the tyre has shredded so the Jag is on my drive waiting for me to return from two weeks abroad. I’ll have two weeks isolation to play with it. That weld scab will redirect any attempt with a drill bit. I see there are induction coil kits which may help but are expensive. May have to destroy the wheel with an angle grinder.

      Hi Rubbiks, the screw extracters were too long and pointed. I had to grind them down to a wider girth so it could bite better in the drilled hole.
