Could you post a picture of how the seat fits up against the tour pack? I’m buying that exact set up and seat for my Challenger. The the back of the Saddleman seat clear the trunk?
@@davidbretall8118 it is pressed perfectly flush and snug up against the trunk. Have to press the trunk into place a little bit, but once there it’s perfect 👌🏻
It was smooth. I also have saddle bag audio so my amp connection was different. However, I could not use the plastic sleeves on the stainless spools, it would not fit. So I just left them off.
Thanks for the detail. Just a couple of observations; lighting was a bit lacking at times, and would have loved to have heard the speakers once installed with your comments about them. Would have liked to see those trunk lights and how bright they are at night. Great video; thanks again from the Great Southern Land.
If I were to get this trunk kit, would my current backrest still fit with the new spools installed? I don’t see why they wouldn’t unless they are a different size, but for shorter trips I’d like to keep the smaller backrest as well. Thanks for the video!
@@unscmasterchief1177 it’s a different material. The spools are stainless whereas I believe the originals were a lighter aluminum perhaps? Either way, yes, my Indian standard backrest still pops on and off with zero issues when I want to remove the trunk. I actually use the regular backrest as a parade mount for flags (video of that on my channel) so I swap the two out a couple times per year.
@@MOTOBLADEawesome thank you! I upgraded to the quick release saddle bags on my 2020 chieftain so I wonder if the new spoils I got for that are already the upgraded ones. But I’m happy to hear they are the same size. Thank you!
Not going to have much luck there :) I got it direct from Indian Motorcycle online. They're having a sale right now if you spend a certain amount. Probably the best price you'll find.
Thanks for the great content. I just picked up my trunk and was going to install. Didn’t see the spools in the parts but i have the Indian quick release sissy bar now which looks like the same setup. Would it stand to reason those would work the same for the trunk ? Any thoughts would be great. Sorry if this is a duplicate.. tried sending earlier and not sure it went. Thanks. Mike from Michigan
I think the difference in the spools is stainless vs aluminum but I'm not entirely sure... Good luck on the install. I enjoy using this trunk every single day. Incredibly useful. Packing it now for my ride to Sturgis next week.
How tough was it to run the wire out under the back of the Saddleman And to get the seat back on over it? It doesn’t have a little notch in it like the stock seat does.
Not hard at all. I just laid the wire right under the middle of the seat and put the seat down on top of it. Stays in place, never moves. Plugs in just fine.
@@MOTOBLADE ok awesome Thank you again man. I’m waiting on my tour pack from Indian, it’s been a month now. Anyway I’ve been sweating it out if that wire is going to fit or not. I can relax now! I appreciate you getting back to me! ✌️
Hey man. Love your videos immensely I pulled the plug and picked up my chieftan limited tour pak (silver quartz metallic). This is gonna be the weekend project. I am not doing the audio at this time. Question is that I had installed at delivery the quick release sissy bar ( didn’t think i was gonna get the tour pack so will hopefully be able to sell that ). But the question is that the “steel spools” and plastic bushings are already on there. I didn’t see any other steel spools in the kit. Would it stand to reason that the sissy bar spool set up would work on the tour pack ? Any thoughts would be great. I will be watching this video a thousand times this weekend during the install. Again. Thanks for the great content and stay well. Mike from Michigan
Replied to your other comment but I will put this here too so hopefully you'll see one of them. If it already has the plastic bushings on it, I THINK you're okay. Difference I believe is stainless vs aluminum spools. They beefed them up at somepoint and if your bike is older it may not have the stainless with the plastic bushings. That's the info I was told, so I'm operating under that assumption.
The antenna base is adjustable as far as the angle is concerned. I tilted it about an inch back off the trunk and it doesn’t touch it at all. About a 60 second adjustment.
Do you have the Indian part # for speaker trunk kit you used? And on what year Chieftain? I ask, as I've been told Indian no longer has a trunk speaker kit for the 2018 Chieftains......
You're a lucky man! As it turns out I saved the part of the box that had the part number! Part #: 2880958 Now, it's on clearance right now on Indians website, you'll only be able to find it using the part number, when it's gone, it's gone. Indian wants you to pay for the newer system - I guess that's why the older speakers are being phased out. Or, more likely, they just want you to pay more to have a dealership install it for you. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)
You forgot to mention the safety screws that prevent the trunk release latches from being disengaged, and prevent theft theft. The trunk installs first, and slides directly from the rear so as not to have to squeeze down over the pillion. next you can easily install the safety screws from the side, just in front of the release latches. Finally, the side bags go on last.
Yes, you can do that if you want to mount the trunk permanently. I take the trunk off quite a bit for another accessory I put on the back, so I don't put the screws in. Would still be quite a bit of work for someone to take it off once you have it connected to the power cable.
I put speakers in the trunk, but they come as a separate kit from Indian. I agree - for the top price being asked, they really should be included. Just plug and play when it arrives.

Those are the saddlemen pads in the video, not the stock trunk pads. The install is identical.
how would care for the speakers when it rains? I guess, - can they survive wet days AND how would you care for them?
They are waterproof, marine grade speakers. But, you could put a small travel cover over the trunk if you're worried about them getting wet.

Saddlemen Road Sofa, heated versions with rider backrest. I love it! Got about 20,000 miles on it now. It's fantastic.
