loved this, looking forward to seeing more videos about the differences between Canada and Japan. It's really so interesting to see how different things are in terms of cost of living, quality of living, and just in general.

Hey good luck on your Japanese journey! I studied for a year and a half at a Japanese language school and at the end of it I feel very comfortable with speaking Japanese (although reading can still be a problem as I still need to work on my kanji). I entered on a student visa and didn't have much time to search for a job after graduation so I ended up returning to the the US. But after a couple of months I got a job offer and will return to Japan in a few months on a work visa.
Keep at it and work hard and I am sure you will find success. Don't worry about the banks too much the main issue is you have to be in Japan for 6 months at least. It's annoying but nothing you can do about it so just be patient and once you have been in the country for 6 months you will find it's not that difficult to open a bank account.

Thank you! Did you read the genki books for studying or what apps did you use for additional studying? Cheers!

@@CameronExplores I started with Minna no Nihongo for the Beginner levels before moving on to Quartet for Intermediate study. The main app I used is called Mazii. It's basically a detailed dictionary with example sentences and what not for words. What I found most helpful was that it can take pictures to translate Japanese into English. But instead of translating everything at once like Google translate does, you can highlight specific things to translate. This is great for looking up individual kanji. You can click on individual words to get their dictionary definitions and learn how to pronounce them. Good luck!

Canadian living in Chiba prefecture. Don’t worry you can find arubaito (part time job) in Tokyo easily. Restaurants jobs and part time English teacher are easy to find. If you enter an English teaching position, you will be able to ask for a work visa when your working holiday visa ends. It takes a few minutes to study job interview etiquette and you’re good to go with some basic Japanese skills. Ganbatte 💪!

Haha so true about the fruits. I would consider fruits more expensive than meat and I would gladly give up all meat for fruits which was way cheaper back in Canada. That's why my long term plan is to get some land in Japan to grow my own fruits haha
You hit the nail on the head about being able to meet a more diverse range of foreigners in Japan which is super ironic considering that Canada goes by the so-called diversity is our strength motto haha

I did what you did but reverse. I studied in japan for 6 months during my graduate program. I loved it for the people and food, but now I have been working for a canadian bank for a couple of years and I love it!.
To open a bank account JP bank was really easy!
I really enjoyed my time in Japan, but I don't think that jobs there are good for our mental health (from what the people I meet there told me and from my girlfriend family who are japanese).
I work 35h a week here and every minutes overtime is paid. On the contrary, if I would work in Japan I would work for many overtime hours and not be paid. I started with 4 weeks of vacations in Canada, but trying to have a week off is really difficult in Japan.

The Japanese working holiday visa only works until 30 years old, so it was now or never whereas I can go to the US anytime

The dating thing is definitely a cultural difference. but at least now you know what it was when people complained about ' foreigners coming to our country and still talking things back home' :)

I think this is the general dating culture for asians bro. coz if you need to see someone for couple months so u still can say both of u just keep seeing each other after many years of dating. unless that couple months you guys wont have sex. But you are not wrong, just your dating style super typical american one. But tbh if you love someone lots for sure you would know your choice and make your choice.
