    A safe house or a safe room also needs a way to periodically monitor emergency broadcasts and news broadcasts. This could be as simple as a wire antenna mounted discretely on the roof beside a gutter or downspout or clipped to a strand of outdoor Christmas lights and periodically connected to a battery powered NOAA AM/FM radio hidden inside the structure.
    A roof top solar panel array could be designed so that one of the panels is dedicated to stealthily charging a solar power bank hidden inside the safe room or safe house. This power bank could, in turn, power lighting, a ventilation fan, a hidden security camera, a short wave radio, recharge smaller batteries or recharge hand-held communication devices.

    You suggest having supplies to handle nicotine addiction. Caffeine addiction is more common and withdrawal can be debilitating. Actual coffee is of course aromatic so I suggest stocking a supply of chocolate covered espresso beans. Can taper addicts, use as stimulant if necessary to stand long watches, and simply as a sweet treat - being careful not to cause new withdrawal issues.
    While not as devastating as heroine withdrawal, I am absolutely worthless the day after I’ve last drunk coffee. Something like having a day long migraine which tapers off to lower grade headache.

    • @gonefishing3644
      @gonefishing3644 3 года назад +10

      Cold brewing is a godsend in this situation. Add coffee to coolish room temp water, and let sit for a day. The next days ration is made the day before so its quite controllable. If supplies start to wane, start reducing bean to water ratio. Keep caffiene pills or caffienated headache tablets on hand for emergencies. Low aroma, palatable, and can be toted in a nalgene or plastic soda bottle and sipped on throughout the day. Without milk/cream/sugar it will be somewhat tasty and refreshing- but not a drink designed to taste "great" and overindulged- especially with rack grade beans/preground bulk coffee.

    If you can fund it, 4 buried/semi-buried 40ft containers (2 stacks of 2) and then a load bearing roof. That will provide more than enough space for utilities, living space, storage, etc. Best of built in an already excavated area like a former quarry or gravel pit. Spend more on utilities than bells and whistles.

    What ever you consider for security, remember fire is a great equalizer. And various popular groups use it routinely. Should someone set fire to a house or worse an apartment building, you have no security left and all possessions if not lives are lost. Between food scarcity (stores stock only a couple of days worth of food), social unrest, and governments who think rounding up civilians is ok, getting away from there is a better option. You can prepare yourself for remote living. You can't prepare to beat the odds of many, against You. Beat them out of the city is best.

      No strategy is going to be 100% effective for all emergencies. However, it's been long established in prepping circles that sheltering in place ("bugging in") is much more effective than evacuating ("bugging out"). It's ideal if your shelter is away from any risk of danger, _but_ even a shelter inside one's apartment is better than nothing.
      Consider the odds where you live. Where I live, for example, there is a non-zero risk that social unrest will follow an emergency; HOWEVER, there is a far greater chance that that unrest will be quelled very quickly because, in addition to civilian law enforcement, there is also a sizeable military presence here which can be dispatched to support law enforcement on a moment's notice. Therefore, security from the marauders might _not_ be that high a priority. Even in the highest-crime cities, however, ordinary citizens will not be nearly as targeted by looters, etc. initially as larger-scale businesses and institutions. The marauders are most likely going to deprive the Waltons of some fuck-you money long before they start going door-to-door to strip houses bare. Why? Because behind every door is a chance that they'll be repelled from attack and quite possibly killed for their efforts. Indeed, the safest possible place to be security-wise might well be that apartment on one of the top floors. New York's three large-scale blackouts bear out that logic.

    i though a safe house was using already establish structure then modifying it to keep personel safe without them showing up on any radar. meaning no access energy, sound, water or structural changes. think of it like this. if there is a extremely large room or say a shared housing structure. the one side would be intergrated to the other to make it seem like one home but inside the that portion can be condense downs to a series of rooms for sleeping, gear and kitchen. it wont show up on radar because anyone would assume the big old home just uses more energy and water. if shtf i would suggest a room for resources to use it to make things. i saw one many have a room with dedicate electronics and he made a jammer out of random parts. he even had several books that allowed anybody to learn how to turn anything into a antenna to even turning a rc car into a surveillance drone. i dont mean a book you can buy i mean he hand drew and printed out instructions himself.

      How so an underground bunker that is home? Private property in a rural area is not a death trap at all

    • @bluenetmarketing
      @bluenetmarketing 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Kalgeriplan I am saying that an underground bunker is dangerous. Anyone can plug up the air supply vent or exhaust vent and you're dead. It's a vulnerable arrangement if someone bad discovers you are under the ground. Then there is the problem of water infiltration. It's pretty hard to build anything underground that is waterproof.

    I do have a question about a safe house or room. If you use the mylar blanket would that block transmissions from the room?

      Not really. Mylar blanket just thin plastic with aluminum film coating, but extremely thin film. At best it will weaken transmission.
