Pacific // An aerial and timelapse film of Cascadia in 4K

- When I think of the wilderness, the Pacific Northwest is one of the first places that comes to mind. Drive 20 minutes from any city in the region and you'll find yourself surrounded by ancient forest, rivers teeming with fish, and silence. A peace exists there in the wild that isn't found in my home state of Texas.
For thousands of years, the only people that lived there were the Native Americans. When settlers first came from Europe in the late 1700s, they started in the east and slowly moved west, through the great plains and finally over the Rocky Mountains to California. They didn't reach the land known as Cascadia until the 1850s. Today, even the oldest structures in the cities are still young.
Man hasn't has as much of a chance to leave a footprint in the Pacific Northwest as he has in other parts of America. If you want to see the country as it once was, untouched by human interaction, get up to Cascadia now.

This is incredibly beautiful. And, as a fellow Texan, I agree that I have found no other peace as I have in Oregon and Washington. I've not seen nearly as much of the PNW yet as I want to, but I am obsessed and I will be going back. Thank you for providing a virtual visit in the meantime.
The PNW is incredible indeed. if you haven't experienced the northern Rockies yet, I highly recommend it too! To me it feels like coming home to return to them...
MAN!!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC! ART - POEM AND GREAT MUSIC ALL WE ARE THERE- ALL WE CAN FELL THIS! VERY GLAD TO SEE!!!!!

Thanks Cale! Josh is the best! :D
What's the specific song?
Love how you balanced the sounds in this video.
Our homeland! Long live a free Cascadia.
Great song choice! Josh Garrels is extremely talented and it fits this video nicely.
I'm using it for meditation. :)

I recognize pretty much all of this -- from the seacoast to the mid-eastern inland along the Columbia River, to Mt. Si, to the Snoqualmie Pass of WA state... it's a seriously beautiful land I'm lucky to live in and love. Hail Cascadia. And look at those forests!
Thanks Maren!

+WhirlOmar thank you!!!
awesome video! it sounds awesome matching the audio!
Nicely done Matt. Great camera work, editing, and color. Which drone did you use for this?
Thanks Corby! Shot on a Phantom 2 with a GoPro Hero 4 Black.
Dude you just became one of my favorite you-tubers. LOVE THIS GARRELS TRACK, (I'm an audio engineer and musician by trade and I lead at one of my church's campuses) and all these drone shots, wow. I just picked up an a7sii and I'll be checking all your content continuously, your grading video was super helpful, if you made more in depth videos such as that one I'd watch them in a heart beat! Thanks man!
+Jordan Marotti thanks so much Jordan! I'm a huge fan of Garrels too. :D If I could just edit every video to his songs I would, but that might get a bit excessive.
I have another color grading video about LUTs coming out very soon. Hope you like it!
+Matt WhoisMatt Johnson Do you need to worry about licensing or it just a non issue? And awesome! I'm stoked for it! You mentioned in that video that you're in a bible study group with the couple from that shoot... What church do you attend?
+Jordan Marotti Marmoset Music handles licensing for his music for videos. It's about $100/track for most films. www.marmosetmusic.com/artists/josh-garrels
I go to Antioch Community Church Dallas, it's pretty cool.
+Matt WhoisMatt Johnson Wow that's awesome, I didn't realize you could purchase per track like that. And awesome!
Excelente video. . . Los mejores q he visto. . . Sigue así buen canal. . .
Fijo me suscribo
looks amazing! Great work! I noticed some micro jitter in couple of shots. For example in 0:17. Is it a software stabilizer, or is it like that right from the drone?
+Daniel Polukhin thanks Daniel! Yes, the dreaded micro jitter. Due to the Phantom 2 gimbal I used with the GoPro. It gets a little shaky sometimes.
so awesome!
So amazing 😍
Amazing!
+Cora Wolf thanks Cora!
Awesome Video
+Christian Mejia thanks Christian!
Welcome Home my Guy
How did you remove the fisheye look from the gopro from the drone?
(amazing video by the way, only recently subscribed but I've been following your videos for a while!)
Thanks Jin! Adobe Premiere has a built in effect you can apply to remove the fish-eye look.
this is great! Was it all shot on the GoPro Hero 4 Black?? I didnt think it's 4k was that good haha
+Josh David Thanks Josh! Haha yup Hero 4 Black except for some of the timelapse shots, those were Canon 7D. The Hero4 Black is an amazing camera in the right conditions. Shoot with Protune, the image is pretty nice for such a small camera.
wow ill have to invest in one! thanks
very nice pace.
thanks Vince!
Matt, what system/ mic did you use to record sound clips on site? Or did you find that in post? Thanks! great video
+Frederick Fitt hey Frederick! This was all Foley sound done in post. The drone is loud which makes in camera audio useless lol.
This is seriously so beautiful and amazing. Can you please tell me the name of this song?
Slip Away by Josh Garrels
This is beyond incredible! How long have you had a drone? Or been practicing until you could easily get these shots?
+Espience Films I bought the drone late last February, and filmed this in July, so about 4-5 months of practice? They aren't hard to fly, most people can pick them up and learn quickly.
kick ass work !
+Philippe Maurice thanks!
Hey Matt, I just found your channel and i love it! Question for you at 3:03 how do you do the timelaps and pan? Is it digitally done in premier pro?
I really like this video dude!
Hi Matt, just wondering did you use optics compensation in after effects/premiere?
Great shots ;)
Cheers.
+Jorge Dourado Thanks Jorge! I used Premiere's built in de-fisheye effect in varying amounts for the GoPro footage. I also used Warp Stabilizer and Rolling Shutter Repair for some clips.
+Matt Johnson Thanks Matt!
I usually go for thr 2.7K 48fps Medium for that reason, and we have the option to do some slomotion...and upscale to 4K, if you check my reel a bit part of the shots are in 2.7K, it works but is not the best of course. The fish eye its one of the big down sides of the Go4 Black..
By the way nice wild sounds audio;)
+Jorge Dourado I found that Premiere's plugin worked pretty well. I'm considering buying a replacement lens that removes some of the fish-eye.
+Matt Johnson I had the same idea but not user if I would mess up with the camera.
Hope Gopro release a better lens in the future and if they are listen and a better data rate!!
Let me know if you change your lens;)
Can you share some of the secrets here? Lol how can you make go pro footages look as good as this? Perhaps the next video? :D
+Raditram thanks so much! GoPro's Protune flat image profile is actually incredible. I would recommend learning the curves tool, it is what I use for most of my coloring. Everything else is Magic Bullet Colorista.
***** Dudeee!!! Thanks for replying! Wow I didn't know pro tune can look this good, I see a lot of videos of pro tunes on RUclips that still has that unpleasant flat look to it. Really nice grading mate!
from Russia with love man! awesome!
Thanks Norman!
Hey Matt do you have any tutorials on how to create title like yours? Perhaps a template?
Great Job! Respect from Russia.
+heizamaba thank you!
Also, nice video!
thanks!
what program did you use to color this video?
+Austin Collins Premiere Pro and Magic Bullet Looks
Where exactly is that location at 2:52?
I recently uploaded a Pacific Northwest video myself, let me know what you think!
nice live in Portland-video to short
I never wanted a drone until now.
who dislikes this?
more importantly: why?!
JOSH GARRELS
Yesss! Love him!
keep up the great work, really helpful stuff! I'm sitting for the part 107 this Friday.
You chose some utterly boring parts of Cascadia. You've missed out on MANY more beautiful places.
