I don't blame you one bit... A few years ago my now husband & I went to watch the sunset. We went to a lovely little car park at the end of a quiet road with a field on one side & posh houses on the other. A van pulled in & I got weird vibes right away because the bloke parked facing us when he had the whole of the area! Anyway I said let's go to another place further along to another, more remote area but our 'admirer' decided to follow! He obviously thought if he hung around long enough he'd see some action...blugh! It was quite unsettling even though we were laughing because try as we might to shake him off he kept following us! It was dark when we managed to lose him so we definitely missed that sunset 😄. Take care & keep safe 👍

Give your terminals a clean with wire wool and a dab of Vaseline then make sure it’s tight. Honestly , advice is for the battery not the wife! 😂

You did the right thing, and I’ve learnt from it. I’d have been tempted to start the engine and use my own full beams to flash them back, not knowing what the nutter(s) intentions are or how far they’d go to move you on. Better to just recognise that anyone willing to go out of their way to cause trouble for someone is better just avoided
Absolutely mate, so many different things I could of done but the safest was to just leave and plan another camp somewhere else 👍

This is the reason why I ditched my small campervan for a 4x4. Too many people at night being strange, and not to mention the 'saucy brigade' in dodgy car parks late at night that ruin a good night of camping. At least camping on green lanes you're relatively alone most of the time during the night and much less chance of having late night visitors :)
I don't blame you mate and if I could afford a 4x4 van then I would absolutely go for it but I know there quite expensive but the places you can get to that no one else can makes up for it I guess 👍

I love your channel i live in Pontesbury but grew up in Shrewsbury so love seeing the familiar places from your perspective. Also in this one you were stood on the spot on top of the hill where we scattered my mothers ashes it was her favourite place and asked we put them there.

in terms of battery, try using some sandpaper and sand both terminals to ensure optimal connectivity. could be as simple as that.

BCA is completely reliable and straight dealing. Sites all over the country. You can check out vehicles online well in advance. All my current vehicles are from auction, car, van, pick up. They will deliver all purchases for a reasonable fee. Highly recommended.

I've always found the closer you are to a town the more likely you are to be visited by weirdos in cars. Usually doing something illegal or they're with some dodgy freak they have picked up on a street corner.

Check the ground strap that is connected between the negative terminal on the battery to the car’s body. Had this problem with a mondeo. 😊

Ditto with my strada, could only start it by wiggling the gear stick frantically as I turned the key. My dad didn't believe me, so looked under the bonnet as I did it and saw that the gear linkage was nudging the torn earth strap just enough for it to make contact with the chassis and start the car.
the oxidation build up at the terminals.just splash it with a bit of hot water till the it goes off

That was a scary situation at the car park! Did they just sit there with their lights shining in on you? Creepers!!

I converted a little van with the help of a mate a couple of years ago and I've learned like you that sometimes late at night strange folks pull up and give you the heebie jeebies, but on the flip side we pull up in places like where you cooked up your omelette and we give locals the heebie jeebies instead! Swings and roundabouts lol!

a lot of electrical faults are faulty earth/ground strap from battery to chassis loose connection on chassis or corroded cable.

Sandpaper or wire wool the terminals and inside of the clamps and then coat with petroleum jelly.

have a look at dometic CFX fridge. totally insane fridge about a grand it’s literally mad can run all day at 3c in a 45 degree space would completely recommend go have a look. not trying to sell it at all but it looks like a proper expedition fridge would do you so well.

i got my local garage to fit a switch that when pushed it puts the headlight on full beam and the hazard lights.....used it three times when had suspicious cars pull up and every time they moved on straight away

For the battery problem, take the terminals off and clean them up, use terminal spray. Then find out where the earth points are and check they’re clean and not corroded 👌. Good luck.
If the terminal wires are tight, try replacing them. You are not old...lol

For your Battery issues could be terminals need cleaned, could be that the terminals need replaced because they won't stay tight or it could be the wiring harness that goes to the terminal.

Some unsolicited advice: try to park where other cars are parked, so that your car isn’t the only one there. For example, a hotel parking lot, an all night gym, a casino, a neighborhood street, etc

I love auctions. Autos are sold as is. Make sure you go to an auto auction that has over 3 vans, that way the vans will go cheaper.

Hi Brendan, if you stay somewhere and the police arrive they won't have powers to ask for you to leave and in most situations they probably won't as they are too busy dealing with other stuff. The police deal with criminal offences. We had a traveller encampment in Battlefield where the occupants uprooted the bollards from the ground. Loads of police cars turned up and left them to it. That was even after loads of mess was left behind. As long as your aren't causing a disturbance and abiding by the law I can't see why they would ask you to move.
Yeh, I try and be as respectful as possible when camping in places so hopefully that goes for something and the police will leave me alone 👍

I've had a few fails recently trying to camp once on my van down near aldburgh didn't realise the latitude festival was one police had no camping any where near ,then got stuck trying to park van off the road about a month later .then few weeks ago cycled with all my gear to camp locally miles from nowhere and people with dogs where walking near me and told the farmer who shoed me away.i am now trying to selly car for a van to start all over again.i will be using some of your spots mate 👍

Probably just the industrial estates mobile security. I start work at 10pm and have loads of cars parked up some nights. First patrol will be around 10-11pm to move them on. so people.just doing their job.

Used to go to Haughmond all the time but not now due to charges. Lots of people park on road for free instead of car park. Also, the abbey carpark is free across main road. Fits about 10 cars.
Yeh haughmond hill is lovely but the charges are a real shame unfortunately. Should be free parking

It’s a poor connection take off your terminals give them a clean and also clean the connections then reinstall it should do the trick. Hope this helps

@@BrendanExplores I do buddy. I live in South Africa. Here we only have crime and other issues. So it's hard getting out to beautiful places. And Never mind camping at night. You'll get robbed and worse. Dangerous place. So we cN only be at certain places at night. And there has to be a form of security. Can't go camping just anywhere or hike. And while we have beautiful places... the places you go to makes me happy and sad. Sad I can't go there. But happy to experience them through your eyes.
Hi Brendon , you just took me back in time with this Vlog, I used to deliver parcels in postcode SY44 which covered the area in the later part of your vlog. At Haughmond Hill there a great little tea cabin that sells nice treats cakes etc. Whilst Uffington is a affluence area they are great people [ especially the lady who approached you in the car park ] , I remember in the summer of 2018 she gave me a cake and a drink to quench my thirst so for me I laughed when I saw her on the screen. Rodenhurst Business Park ; I know the owner very well again though the work I once did, The bridge was rebuild some 4 years ago and fencing was put up because when the river 7 flooded the access water would run under the bridge , flood the road and the surrounding fields. I noticed that they now have security gating at the main entrance, due to travellers and other security issues that they have had in the past, am presuming now the they have engaged a security company to check the premises now so i could have been them in the car checking you out : great video loved the trip around SY44 brought back or two memories

Don't know if the Grand is the same as my standard scenic but the passenger seat flips down flat in mine. Makes climbing in to the back much easier. Also means easy escape without getting out!
Ahh yes mine goes flat as well 🙂 thankfully I don't need to flip it flat because the car is so long 👍. Happy camping
@@BrendanExplores as a safety precaution, putting the seat flat, for easy access to the front seat makes sense. By the time you got out of the car, if so inclined, they could have been by the door.

The fences being up this time, should of been a clue maybe. My guard would of been up a little more with that. I think you need to figure out a way to just jump in the front of your car without coming out. It isn't a safe move. Stay blessed and safe.

I've bought at auction.. you buy what you get no refunds ..what you see is what you get so any mechanical faults etc that's your problem

I live in Herefordshire, there's a place in Leominster that regularly has van auctions and sells ex service vehicles like Ambulances and police vans. It's called Brightwells and you can look at the auction catalogues on their website.
Brother, if your having to tighten your battery cable that much every time you have to check it. most likely thats gonna be your problem.

I had to live in a T4 campervan that I owned years ago, due to becoming temporarily homeless due to non matched completion dates on a house sale. I found the easiest, quietest, and safest place to park up was on the edge of a housing estate on the outskirts of Bristol. Parked there every night with no problems, and spent the days in scenic car parks. I now have a Hilux Surf, easy camper conversion, plus a diesel heater, and can get anywhere in it.
Yeh your probably right and I find the residential park ups are really nice and quiet most of the time 🙂

Not only giving your battery terminals a good cleaning but also if I were you I'd have your starter checked as well take that however you want that's just my recommendation through my POS cars

Battery sounds like maybe loose connection or corrosion maybe. Something blocking the full solid connection

We have lived for two years nearly in our motorhome and lost count of the weirdos we have encountered. The things we have witnessed, from dogging and illicit affairs and drug deals, stolen goods being sold and moved. Spent one afternoon watching a guy strip and repaint a pair of oxygen tanks in a picnic area! And once in Sherbourne in Dorset a counciller (nosy old so and so) called the police to us because she didn't know why we were parked, quite legally in a car park that allowed you to park all night! When we got up the next morning she actually had the barriers brought down to try and lock us in. These annoying nosy people irritate me more than bad drivers. There is a down side to van life! It ain't for the faint of heart.

@@BrendanExplores Most definately. We have been to some amazing places and never left the UK. At first I was really nervous, it took ages to settle and to be honest sometimes I wake up and question my sanity in the middle of the night. And there are times I have just sat up all night like a meerkat.....you know just in case! But eventually you learn to trust the gut, have cameras on the outside, keep screens up and curtains drawn. Never open a door or window too wide to anyone and if you witness dodgy keep shctum. Every one in van life buys into a dream of waking up and falling asleep next to sunsets and sunrises and sun kissed beaches. Sure, you see that sometimes but theres the other side. Sometimes its a grotty car park in a dodgy town, or somewhere where locals don't want you (and thats getting more frequent). The UK can be very anti van life. But follow van life rules, leave no trace, don't set up 'camp', stay one night etc and you can have some real fun. Would we do it all again? Yes, probably. For now we live and work on a camp site cos that diesel ain't free and parking is pricey. And a van needs maintenence and insurance, but on our two days off we head for a layby! Freedom.

We went to Tintagel in Cornwall and had to pay to park and pay to use the toilet! with 3 little ones needing the loo every 5 minutes we ended up spending more than a penny 😮

Hey man, have never tried short term insurance? Plenty of sites and apps available. Takes 5 minutes and can insure any vehicle. Might be worth a shot.

Yes basically you sand them terminals with a wire brush …. Both my terminals did that.
